I feel the need to burn some new rubber. I have done my time in Burnout Paradise, love it, I still play and love Motorstorm........... Ridge Racer 7, Outrun and am done with NFS: Shift.
So, Split/Second, Blur, Modnation Racers and Trackmaniar (Wii) are all hitting in the next few weeks.
What racing game are you getting? Played some of these? Personally I like the look of Split/Second but would love to hear more.
Which racer? Why?

8/10 Eurogamer. Looks awesome, some Burnout team members.
Update: Got Split Second, like arcade racers? GET THIS its AWESOME. (going to get blur later). _________________

Split/Second is looking pretty decent. The track in the demo is fairly fun but I've got the inkling that the novelty of causing explosions every 10 seconds would wear thin quickly. _________________

I don't know, the game is getting great reviews with at least one review saying S/S has overthrown Burnout as THE arcade racer to play. From the demo I agree as the demo is imo better than Burnout.
S/S I am DEFINITELY getting but I haven't played a demo of Blur so at this time it's a no purchase. _________________ Welcome to the internet. Where any joke can turn into WWIII.

I loved the S/S demo but I'm getting Blur just on pedigree alone. Seriously love Bizarre. _________________

I hated the S/S demo it felt completely random whether or not I could actually use my powerups or not. I still much prefer burnout because it still involves quite a high level of skill rather than just "whoever gets blown up at the end, loses".
As for which I'd choose, I dunno, I think Blur is looking a lot more interesting than SS when it comes to arcadey goodness but I haven't played the demo (if there is one) of it to really comment.
That micro machines style one that's coming to DLC devices looks pretty schmick too.

Split/Second demo was OK, but am I the only one who thought it felt a bit slow? Gotta admit though, really like that aeroplane crash mid-race...

modnation racer seems like the best bet , due to the custom tracks and kart mind set. _________________

I'm not sure how much more obvious they could put "Make that half circle under your car fill up by a third then hit X on the blue squares hovering over the cars up ahead" on the screen- They clearly tell you at the start of the race _________________

Modnation definitely. Seems to be the racer that would keep you engaged the longest, S/S seems flashy at best that would quickly become boring.

I would totally go with modnation racers if I had a PS3, it was a stand-out title for me from last year's e3. I notice no one has mentioned forza 3 though... awesome game, especially if you enjoyed shift.

I was annoyed that S/S was delayed, I'm really looking forward to playing the full thing. From what I've read, there's actually plenty of variety in the game modes.
Blur is also on my list of wants, since PGR was my favourite series (Burnout a close second), and the beta was great fun.

I get that, but sometimes when I had a full gauge and a car ahead of me, the blue square didn't appear. Half the time I was blindly bashing the button in the hope it would actually do something.

I really don't know about that review. Usually I look to Dtoid for the harsher, more critical reviews. It seems that a 9/10 for essentially a racer than recycles the same levels over and over (72 times!) so that you know all the powerplays like the back of your hand is just screaming of boredom to me.
It seems too much of a gimmick that whilst undoubtedly cool, will get old fast when you play something over that many times that you start to predict things. If they had a few cities instead to mix it up, that would ramp the score up dramatically for me. But 9/10 for that...eh, it's a stretch. _________________

^^ based on the demo it is hard to say. There is however an overwhelming amount of positive press on this one. Pre-ordered just to be sure. _________________

I think they all actually have flaws.
Split/Second - looks lacking in depth and a bit one dimensional for me. While I loved the jumps in Pure, something about the racing really felt bland and I lost interest very quickly.
Blur - I loved PGR2, was disappointed in 3 and 4... while 4 is still a solid game, it really felt cobbled together, just a bunch of bikes and tracks and really lacked focus. Blur seems similar and the addition of power ups don't really fit with real cars. I do love racing in real cities though.
Modnation Racers - if not for the long load times, id be more interested. that and the racing seems a bit bland. the track editor looks killer though and a lot of fun.
Trackmania is free on PC right?
Im looking to pick up Modnation and Blur for cheap later on.
Have you tried Forza 3? Its cheap now for $12.95 pounds - Zavvi.com monday special. I thought Forza 2 was the best driving sim game ever to come out and I bought Forza 3 a couple of weeks ago. _________________

I changed my mind about blur - it looks awesome and fun! just got to adjust to the art style of real cars and weapons... makes kazunori-san's argument about no damage on real cars a little weak...
Blur for me when its cheap. _________________

Blur is a blast. Highly impressed and the sense of achievement you get when you win a race is something i haven't had in a long time, except a few days earlier with Modnation Racers.
2 Great racing games. Well worth he spend and different enough to justify dual purchases.
Split Second was distant. I felt i had no control over the "effects" and the racing was just stale. Transformers 2 of driving games.

Really enjoying Blur at the moment. I've been reading that a lot of people are annoyed at the difficulty level, but that's exactly the way PGR was, especially the original. The weapon system is amazingly balanced, everything has a strength and weakness, very rock/paper/scissors style. It's an addictive game, I've found myself going back over and over to better the fan score and complete as much as I can before moving to the next level.
Looking forward to playing Split Second next, should be another refreshing change.

$58 whoah. That is a really decent price.
SPLIT/SECOND impressions from a 3 hour session. This is the sort of racing game I love the most. Recent examples of racers that have me hooked as much as this one would be Motorstorm: Pacific Rift, Burnout Dominator/Revenge and Ridge Racer 7 (thats a fair bit back I know).
The demo failed to impress me. Though based on reviews and impressions I have read online I jumped in head first and boy am I happy. This game ROCKS. It starts off like the demo, pretty tame and like a normal everyday arcade racer. Its only after some time you notice how much this game kicks ass. The cars handle like a dream, the cornering/drift system is TIGHT and the explosive stages really prove their worth and most of all, this game is FUN and quite thrilling.
Not often do I stare into the screen on the edge of my seat. SHIFT bored me, DIRT 2 was OK, even Gran Turismo and PGR dont do it for me. I like arcade racers, fast, tight and explosive. This game has a LOT in common with BURNOUT REVENGE/DOMINATOR/TAKEDOWN. Its structured quite the same, shares the same devs even (staff) and plays exactly like these games, FAST and AWESOME.
Do not hesitate to strap into this game if you are a racing/arcade fan. If you liked burnout dominator/revenge/takedown AT ALL you will LOVE this. Oh yeah and the music is awesome, the names of the racers is cool and I just love the whole thing (except maybe for the weird and pointless presentation, but racers arent about story anyway, they are about cars, driving and speed and this game NAILS IT.

Ive got Blur and Split Second.
Id probably say I prefer Split Second out of the 2, but I have played it more than Blur so I might be biased.
Both have taken a back seat to RDR though _________________ XBL/PSN/Steam: BenC82

RDR has taken a back seat to Split Second in my case!
Though I miss the tundra West. OVERINUNDATED WITH GAMES AGAIN! Whoopsie. Thought I was going to avoid that at all costs. _________________
