|
|
|
|
| Quote: | Ronnie James Dio, a metal god that was the lead singer for Black Sabbath, Elf, Rainbow, Heaven & Hell, and Dio, has passed away at the age of 67-years old.
Dio died from stomach cancer. He had been getting treatment from a hospital in Houston.
His wife, Wendy Dio, made the following statement to Blabbermouth.net:
“Today my heart is broken, Ronnie passed away at 7:45 a.m. [on Sunday] 16th May. Many, many friends and family were able to say their private goodbyes before he peacefully passed away.
“Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all.
“We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us.
“Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this terrible loss.
“Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever.”
A summer tour by Heaven & Hell was cancelled earlier this month due to Ronnie’s failing health.
Dio is survived by his wife Wendy, adopted son Dan Padavona from his first marriage, and two grandchildren. |

Such a sad day for metal fans everywhere.
I for one will greatly miss Dio.

Thanks for posting this, I was just about to. I am truly devastated by this.
Dio was without a doubt, one of the leading pioneers of heavy metal. He made metal what it is today and last year, when he and Sabbath released "The Devil You Know". It was like the best metal release of 2009. Metal today is too damn commercial and well produced and that album (and all of Dio's albums) had the true essence, purity and raw power of metal.
Black Sabbath introduced me to Dio. Heaven and Hell, Mob Rules, Dehumanizer and more recently The Devil You Know, are absolute monster albums. I recommend everyone to give at least Heaven and Hell a good listen.
Black Sabbath aside, his fantastic solo career and his years with Rainbow produced some amazing music.
O great warlord of metal, you will be missed _________________

I'm gutted by this, I have an exam to go to in the next hour and all I can think about is Dio's passing.
I really wish I had the chance to see him perform but I can always listen to his music.
RIP Dio, you never received the accolades you deserved. One of the all time greats. _________________

The mild reaction here shows that Dio was no commercial sell out. He has his legion of fans who know what good music is, and have followed his career till the very end.
Thank you for staying true to yourself till the very end Ronnie, if only more musicians were like you. _________________

We salute you.
(For those who don't know, Dio brought the "devil's horns" to rock and roll. Without him, we wouldnt be doing this at gigs) _________________

R.I.P rock legend \m/
He left a mark in music history that will never disappear, and people will no doubt be rocking out to his music for centuries to come.
All I can do is put The Anthology on full blast through my headset and listen all day.

Damn, that is the very first time I have ever actually gasped at an xxx is dead thread title.
I never even knew he was in poor health, 67 seems like such a low age to go these days
I would say RIP, but I think resting in a land of eternal metal played f***ing loud would be more fitting.
Time to go rock the afterlife, Dio. _________________

Yea I see it now, sorry about that. Just not seeing it as a featured/popular post kinda made me
Doesn't matter though, he never wanted to be insanely popular anyway, he just did it for the Metal, and for those who saw the Heavy Metal Warlord he was
i don't care if all my friends at Uni have not heard of him, he will always be remembered by us. _________________

Random fact:
Heaven and Hell was the first song I learnt to play start to finish on bass guitar. I am playing along to it right now as a tribute.

Even though I was always an Ozzy era Sabbath fan, Rainbow had to be one of my all time favourite bands.
Music has lost one hell of a legend.
