I've tried searching for people with similar issues but to no avail so here's my help me thread.
For a while now I've noticed screen tearing at one spot on the PS3, which is about one third from the top. It seems to happen with any game I put it and also for streaming video. The reason why I think it may be a PS3 issue and not a game/ streaming issue is that the tear is always at the same spot. Although I could be wrong. The last few games I've played where I've noticed the issue are: Ridge Racer 7, Heavy Rain, Overlord 2. Or could this just be a case of screen tearing being a common issue for these games and for streaming video (through TVersity)?
I'm running the PS3 (Slim) though an HDMI cable on an HDTV. I've tried changing HDMI cables and the TV port to no avail.

The reason why I don't think it is the TV is that the issue is limtied to the PS3. Streaming to the TV directly doesn't give the issue, nor does the 360 over hdmi, or the wii/ps2/xbox over component, or FTA tv.

If I was you, I'd lock the resolution on either 720p or 1080p. Some sets don't handle certain signals nicely for whatever reason. You can lock it on a resolution by deselecting all the resolutions, bar the one you want in the PS3 video menu.
Try that. You might find the problem is only doing it with 1080p or 720p content only.
The 360 is locked solid on whatever resolution you set at the dash. So I'm not surprised you're not seeing the issue with the 360. Same deal with wii/ps2/xbox, they are all 480i/480p.
So I'm going take a guess here, your set is 1080p naive? I think your set is probably struggling to downscale the image to 720p and that's why your getting screen tearing. So enforcing the PS3 to upscale all content to 1080p might be your answer. _________________ Shin J Leon.
