The whole regional differences thing with this game absolutely baffles me. Why not just offer players a choice rather than unilaterally deciding that english-speaking gamers want to be ugly old men?

I've got a bad feeling that it's because Nier Replicant has a bad case of 'Drakengard syndrome', which would have deemed it inappropriate... But that's just a conspiracy theory. _________________

Can you explain what you mean by that to save me the research? _________________

The old guy looks a better character. The young dude looked too similar to every other JRPG character out there.
If the game had more polish in the gameplay and definitely the visuals (because seriously, it's pretty low res...) I'd be interested. _________________ My YouTube game videos!

I'll get this game... just for Kaine the hussy!
I'm going to assume that each ending for each subsequent play through gets weirder and weirder like Drakengard? _________________

Damn, you haven't made my choice any easier with this review.
And yes, he is ugly ... but the whole game looks pretty ugly. Not that graphics really matter, but there's something that looks a little off with everything I see. Still, David, you'd better post in the Nier thread what your impressions are!
I think that I might be buying this from Dungeon Crawl in a couple of weeks. _________________

^The only part of the game I found ugly was the main character. Sure, it's a little bland and empty in places, but otherwise, the art direction is very good and the bosses in the first half of the game blew my mind with their animation and detail. That's not to say the ones in the second half are bad... just a bit more down to earth.

Drakengard has blatant incest, in the Japanese version at least (I'm told). In Nier Replicant, Nier is an older brother saving his sister (rather than father father saving daughter). Nier Replicant is only released in Japan...

I never finished Drakengard, so I can't compare. However, the endings here all made sense to me. My favourite playthrough was the second as it set up the context REALLY well. And the fourth... well, it's a bit of a shock what it asks you to do... but not in the 'ewww...' kind of way. _________________

Thanks for your reply, Jeremy. I have to admit I haven't seen it in action.
I was close to buying this on the day it was released, but I didn't ... so I'll have to think about it some more. _________________

I'd love to whenever I get a chance, but I'm thinking of holding out on this game until I've finished some of my back catalog games.... (SMT:Strange Journey, BlazBlue :])

Cool! You've only made me more interested in the game. Looking forward to playing it when I get to it! _________________

Cheers for the review Jeremy. Just as I thought, I'll be staying away from this one (until it atleast comes cheaper).

Despite thinking it looks ugly, I grabbed this for $56 from the UK.
Reviews like this and others have had enough positives to interest me.
Nice review, hopefully I enjoy it. $56 for a 7.5/10 is great going _________________ My YouTube game videos!
