I just finished Mass Effect 2. Utterly amazing, I feel like crying now that it's over icon_lol.gif . Such an incredible experience and the ending has got me excited as for ME3. I had a pretty good ending, only losing one character (Zaeed died when I sent him off with the Normandy crew. I wasn't too bothered, as I didn't really care for him, I only ever used him for his loyalty quest.) Oh well, hopefully Bioware make good on their promise to continue DLC support for ME2 up until the release of the 3rd. I guess I should keep the game installed on my PC, HDD space isn't an issue.

Just finished Mass Effect 1 with the intentions of starting Mass Effect 2. Will have to wait until end of uni semester before ME2.

I did a heap of side missions with the intention of getting some achievements but it did not help me.
Overall pretty fun but I don't see myself playing it again.

I just knocked over The Darkness on 360. Pretty good game. Full of surprisingly humane and touching moments. Plus the darkness powers are pretty awesome. Definitely worth checking out.

Moved on to Ghostbusters now. icon_biggrin.gif

I beat Ace Attorney Investigations. It was very splendid, but that was some final showdown with the big bad of the game.

Splinter Cell: Conviction

For a game that was at least three years in the making, you'd expect the single player campaign to last longer than six hours...but it doesn't. Definitely the weakest game in the series. They focused too much on action in my opinion (especially with the Iraq and Chase missions). Some levels did bring back more traditional gameplay but too little too late.

I'll probably try the co-op campaign this week, I've heard it's better than the single player.

Maybe I expected too much but surely they could have done a better job with this.

wow. really?

It took much longer because they had to reset the game at least once that we know of.

Totally, 100% agree with everything. I'm just up to the last 'checkpoint' now and am pretty much done with it. It is about 5 hours long, so technically, that is less than 1 hour of gameplay created per year in development icon_annoyed.gif

I can confirm that the coop is better than the story mode imo. I'm about 1/2 through with a friend and am enjoying it. I can't see myself keeping this when I'm done. Chaos Theory ftw.

It's no suprise that they included a free download for Chaos Theory with pre-orders. The pinnacle of Splinter Cell imo.

I finished Ghostbusters this morning. F'ing loved it. It may have just been because I'm a massive Ghostbusters, but I really dug this game. What really made it for me was the music over the end credits. It felt just like a 90s film ripped straight from my child hood. Massive nostalgia trip.

woke up at 4. Finished DEADSPACE on PC.

got a bit samey near the end but it was really good. I had a lot of ammo at the end and a lot of money and health too so the final boss was easy. The twist near the end was decentish but the very very end bit/ending was sort of terrible.

I have some issues with the tough as nails "asteroid shooting bit" 1/3 of the way through and the stupid fire room which was a bit too unforgiving. Kept killing myself even though I was careful. Still, interesting/good game for the horror genre fan. Especially if you liked the movie EVENT HORIZON.

Might & Magic: clash of heroes DS - OK so the story is cliche, the match three puzzle style is not really new and there is a much luck in the unit falls as there is skill in their use, but damn if it didn't keep me up till 2am after playing "one battle before I sleep" several nights in a row. I think puzzle quest is better, but still solid - 7/10

I finished Splinter Cell: Conviction last night, and I don't like the series, but I really enjoyed this game. I found it fun, fast paced and the story was pretty good, however, was lacking in parts.

A lot of people have been commenting (usually negatively) about the short length of the game. I have to say I'm digging the shorter games. Shorter games mean I can actually play a game all the way through, and still have enough sleep to work and spend time with the hubby and friends. Sometimes the long, deep games are great though, and if I like it enough I'll be happy to have breaks in the game play and come back to it.

Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to getting stuck into the coop with hubby and getting that done and dusted. Hmm, never really thought I'd be saying this about a Splinter Cell game icon_razz.gif.

EDIT: Just finished it again on Realistic, man some of those levels are a pain in the ass. Hubby is a little upset I finished it on hard before him but at least he knows what he's in for now since he was half watching me while playing the Prison Break game. Just got the coop to finish now icon_biggrin.gif.

I just finished Grand Theft Auto: Episodes From Liberty City for the PS3.

I really liked both of the episodes, TLAD had the awesome storyline and characters and was just really awesome to play through, I felt like I was in that gang for real.

As for TBOGT, I enjoyed it too, the story wasn't as good as TLAD, but I'm into the whole "clubbing" scene and some of those missions just had the best action scenes. Plus Yusuf was the funniest guy I think I ever heard.

Overall great game, makes me want to play GTAIV again.

Just finished Muppet Treasure Island for PC.

It was pretty good, but it was way too short. I feel sorry for anyone that paid full price for it when it was released. i think I started and finished it within 2 hours, and part of that was making an omelette and eating it too.

Good music, funny dailogue, well put together. Would recommend if you only pay $5 or less for it.

I just completed the single player campaign, not on realistic though... **ducks flying piano**

I thought it was great, really loved the tension (helped with the music playing as things got more hectic) during the last mission. I'll have to play through it again to make more sense of the storyline. I hope more is added to it via DLC...... or another game to continue it (only not in 4 years time!!) kinda like Vegas 2 being a direct continuation to the first Rainbow Six Vegas.

I'll be useless on realistic difficulty, had trouble in some spots in the game (underground carpark section especially). I died quite a bit - trying to be Rambo and charging through. I could have been more stealthy, but the process dragged on and on and on. My favorite thing is to use stealth for the first (or up to the third) bad guy.... then eliminate the rest Rambo style icon_lol.gif.

just finished DARKSIDERS. Great action in game, but much more focused on puzzles than others such as GOW or bayonetta. It reminded A LOT of zelda and made me start playing spirit tracks on DS. Its kind of copied, but does enough to separate it, but who can compalin with anything that comes close to zelda right?

It starts off like GOW but once you get to a dungeon and weapons come in, it becomes a zelda clone. I had a great time with it.

Yeah the tension was great, and the game blended together beautifully in terms of scene transitions and the music. I loved the music in the last few levels, it really set the mood.

Haha I'm rather a Rambo type myself when it comes to games. I'm still learning the virtue that is patience and didn't really work out well for me in some parts of the game, especially towards the end.

Realistic wasn't too bad, you just have to use cover more effectively and make use of all (or at least most) or your gadgets. Some of the levels were about as fun as bashing my head repeatedly against a brick wall, but it was rewarding when I did eventually finish the game.

This weekend herald the end of Final Fantasy 13 (PS3), it was quite the experience. From the get go let me just say that Square should be extremely proud of this title, it's more of an 'experience' than it is a game, if that makes sense.

The graphics are outstanding, probably the best I've seen on a console. But it's not just the technical or cosmetic aspects of the visuals that are flawless, it's their theatrical positioning and use. Countless times I stopped and admired the vistas for example on Gran Pulse looking up at the weeping Cocoon, Lightning's hair swaying in the breeze and the loose snow on top of a hill being carried by the wind. It makes you go 'Wow'. FF13 does that a fair bit.

Likewise, in the aforementioned scenes the music is perfectly choreographed. Even Leona Lewis' song during the final cutscene was surprising fitting (without feeling like a plug or sellout). The voice acting is top notch, although some of the dialogue felt a bit overdramatic at times (but that's just me being picky). In general the music and sound effect are all standout, a few more battle music tracks would have been welcomed though (considering you spend so much time in battle).

Now I know a lot of people had issues with the Datalog (read, journal) and the plot in general, but I personally didn't mind reading the Datalog nor did I find the plot confusing. However, I could call that a white lie as the end chapter went a bit above my head and I had to validate my interpretation of the events online (I was right though). It's interesting throughout and kept me wanting to progress it. That said, I think it would probably be lost on younger audiences. Also, I felt that the game dragged out a bit at the end, Chapter 13 (the final chapter) especially. I find nothing worse than wanting to finish something that just insists on keep going (longer than it needs to).

The combat system in the game is also praise worthy; the Paradigm system is a new twist on the old and tried class system. More or less, a party can consist of up to 3 members and each character can assume a different class (any class if they have skills in it). The game allows up to six different combinations that can then be assigned dynamically during combat. It's a good idea and works well. One issue I had with it is that the game does not remember your Paradigms per character combination if you change the battle team. So, if you had a team with lets say Sazh, Vanille and Snow, and you swap out Snow with Fang, your Paradigms are reset with the default that the game creates (only 3). If you then replace Fang back with Snow, the game does not recreate your previous Paradigms. It's nothing major but I found it frustrating when I was experimenting with combat teams.

Be warned though, this game is not like your traditional RPG, it is linear, it does hold your hand for a sizeable portion of the game and only slowly and incrementally gives you control to make your own choices. Not that I had a problem with this, but some will. Later on the game opens up and let's you do some wandering but even this is linear in nature (you still have to proceed to continue the plot). It's at this point where the player is given the option to complete side missions, but even these are your standard 'go here, kill this mob'. It's fairly ho-hum to tell the truth. Once the game is over the player is given the option to travel back to the aforementioned area to continue levelling up (once you finish the game the last 'level' is unlocked to level up into) and to complete the remaining (now unlocked) side quests. Likewise, you can grind away for components to levelup weapons. Personally I don't think I will be bothering with this, but those will RPG OCD will love it icon_smile.gif

All in all, FF13 is a great game and a RPG that I can recommend to anyone RPG fan who doesn't mind trying something 'different' from the standard RPG template. Yes, it's been a long time coming, and yes, some might not like the linear nature of the game, but ultimately, it's still plays like an old school RPG, it just has prettier graphics.

Oh, if you have the option to get the 360 or PS3 version, go for the PS3 version, at the very least the cut scenes are far far far superior (and the game apparently runs better on the PS3).

-Update-
Maybe I will do those Cieth stone (side missions) after all.

-Update #2-
Tried doing some of those Cieth missions today. I just don't see the point... I've finished the game, all thse missions do is fill the OCD void icon_smile.gif

Only if you spend another hundred bucks on DLC, the songs that come with RB are infinitely more "indie" than GHWT and beyond.
