I guess he is. I groan when people use Apple corporate speak like:

It's a gadget, just a toy to play with, and it ain't anything new, there have been tablets before offering multitouch, and there'll be ones after. Apple can shape the market, and I'm sure they certainly will by making gadgets accessible to a non techno-savvy market, but that's all they are doing. This isn't a revolution in tech, form or function, its a revolution in geek-tech marketability and bringing what was once a very niche market into the mainstream. _________________

Agreed, and that's why Apple are so successful. They don't target the mainstream audience or the tech savvy, but the every day user, introducing them to technology they otherwise would never have used. Personally, I'm more a fan of the Macbook range and the Iphone.

Thats from the review. I didn't write it.
I'm sold. but I still gotta see what the data carriers are going to do before I will buy an ipad. Because if the dataplans are bad, I'll get the wifi version. So its not apple but optus/telstra (probably telstra) are going to offer that's determining my purchase.
nearly bought one last night via the USA (per whirlpool).

I don't get the "not with apple" comment. why not?
anyhow, apparently the ipad is at the sydney apple store. might check it out tomorrow. _________________

I'm assuming Leon would prefer the multitouch experience with Jessica Alba... _________________

I love it, but screw 1st gen. 3rd gen will be the go for me, same as the iPhone.
You know, I have only downloaded 4 apps on my iPhone since I got it 9 months ago. I don't use it to its full advantage by any means, but I still love it.
I am a Apple fan though, yes. But really, I barely use my Macbook enough to warrant its purchase. I think you'd be better off buying a Macbook Air over the iPad. If money permits.

Exactly, im definetely passing, my iphone does most of the stuff it can do anyway, don't see what else I would use it for, definetely not gaming. If I did get one, itd have to be the 3G model, otherwise its pointless, and at that point, Id rather just keep using my iphone for on-the-go internet and buy a small laptop for other things. _________________

admeister, put down the haterade, damn. Your arguments are specious and your attitude unnecessarily militant. I'm too lazy and indifferent to the iPad to tackle any of them though.
| Zhou wrote: | Why Jessica Alba when you can Megan Fox |
Because Jessica Alba is the hottest woman ever and Megan Fox is only hot in a very generic pornstar way, and that's after all the work she's had done. In fact she was hotter before.

Guess what mate, the iPad also plays 1080p and manages 10 hours of battery life while doing it Netbooks are also as garbage as Tablet PCs (Tablet PC: Touch screen computer that is running a desktop class OS, ie Windows XP, Vista, 7 or OS X client).
The iPad isn't a niche device everyone is proclaiming, it is the future of computing as you know it. Very few people actually need quad core computers, 400W sucking GPUs or 8 GB of RAM. The majority of home PC use is internet browsing, video, email and instant messaging. The iPad is the upcoming similar devices do these tasks perfectly well. Hell, at my work place 90% of users would be perfectly fine with just an iPad or similar device and it'd make my job a hell of a lot easier.
In other words, brace yourself, change is coming. |
It is the beginning of the future of computing. That doesn't mean it's a good bit of kit. My C64 was the future of home computing in 1983, say no more. Also, how are you going to output this 1080p content to a big display? V1 is a device for the fanboys. V2, V3 well I'm sure they will add all of the things they left out of V1, like a USB port for example. By virtue of your comment about netbooks being as crap as tablet PC's, then you would apply this reasoning logically that Notebooks also are useless? They have one big plus = a fucking keyboard that is actually useable.
Edit: you're right about the battery life though. _________________ I'd be apathetic, but I can't be arsed.

The new Iphone 4.0 features include multitasking, among other things. The good news is, this same update will progress to the Ipad later this year. So that's one major gripe out of the way.

yeah, read the endgadget iphone OS4 rundown and the new OS (which ipad/iphone 3GSup) will share will enable multitasking on the ipad. Which is great news. Bit funny how they've got it ready but didn't implement it til they used it to announce the new iphone features - which will push sales on that. Still, folders, multitasking and whatnot.
I went to the apple store sydney this morning and only wandered around ground and there were no ipads to be seen.
oh wait. Ridiculously hot.

The funny thing is the iCade (ThinkGeek's April Fools) has had enough interest in it that they are looking for ways to actually build and sell it =) _________________

Yeah, there really isn't anything Apple can do to make me go anywhere near this one. Existing notebook + existing iPod Touch + incontinence pad name + absolutly stupid price = no sell. I really don't see what the fuss is about. _________________
