|
|
|
|
Big news fellow RPG fans! Nippon Ichi, Gust and Idea Factory have just announced (via Famitsu) their new PS3 game, Trinity Universe. The game will feature characters from Atelier Viorate and the Disgaea series, with fully 3D character models for the first time. That's right, we'll be seeing Etna in 3D, no sprites here. Two pages of screens/info were printed, here's the scans.
Scan 1.
Scan 2.
This is pretty interesting stuff, I have to say the game looks pretty good so far, though the screens are fairly small of course. The sudden change from 2D sprites to 3D models is a bit jarring, but also somewhat refreshing. Check out my Wikipedia page for a little more info. The game is set for release in Japan this August, so keep your eyes on this one. There's word about that Nippon Ichi will be making another PS3 related announcement very soon... _________________

Sorry about the scan links, they're all fixed now.
Edit: Thanks BurnZ. Here's a cropped version of one of the screenshots.

I must really be blind to miss this topic on the first page. Anyways, here's the info I posted before.
Seems there will be two scenarios for this game. The Goddess route which will be handled by Gust and the Overlord route which NIS will cover.
War Goddess Lyselial
Her nickname name is Lyselia and she protects the order of the Milky way Galaxy. She's part of a goddess organization and she's also the main character! She seems to be happy go lucky but she also seems to have a competitive spirit Her story will be one of fighting heros and finding love and justice across the universe, I think.
Puppy Overlord Kanata
He seems to be a carefree and innocent sort of Overlord. Apparently there was a mistake in his title. What was originally the word Big Demon Ball turned into Dog Demon King by just switching a dash in the kanji of the title. Haha, that's kinda funny. He was supposed some powerful form, but instead he became a puppy-eared Overlord.
Other confirmed characters are:
- Etna (Disgaea 2 form)
- Fallen Angel Flonne (Disgaea 2)
- Prinny (Disgaea)
- Pamela (Atelier Viorate, Atelier Iris 1 and 3, Mana Khemia 1)
- Viorate (Atelier Viorate)
- Tsubaki (don't where she's from)
- Rukiuth (also don't know)
Here's a Famitsu Article with cute artwork and stuff.

Agreed, I think it looks fantastic. This is interesting timing, I was just thinking the other day that it would have been cool if the character art was animated in Cross Edge. Looks like I'm not the only one who was thinking that. Please let this game get a US release! Oh, and I don't know if you guys noticed the link in the youtube video which leads to an article on ps3hyper.com. There's a fair bit of new info about the game in there. _________________

Still waiting for news on the new NIS SRPG, they haven't really done anything since Prinny. Idea factory games are alright but the NIS internally developed ones are where the real gold is at.

I've been wondering the same thing. Its been well over a year since Disgaea 3 came out in Japan and NIS usually released a new SRPG every year since La Pucelle. Guess they decided to make 2009 the year to release ports of their SRPGs. _________________

Yeah, it was kind of a downer not to get a new NI srpg this year, especially since it would probably be a new IP. During E3 however they stated that they are working on a new SRPG for both PSP and PS3 (outside of the ports they are doing)
http://www.rpgfan.com/news/2009/266.html
I guess last years entry was taken up by the D3 DLC and the extra content for Phantom Brave and D2.

Now this is the sort of game that makes me wish the PS3 wasn't so damn expensive. The cel shading in the gameplay is absolutely gorgeous. I know it most likely won't get released here in australia but as long as i gets a US release I'll be importing it, PS3 or no PS3 (obviously if I didn't have a PS3 I'd be importing it for when I get one once the price drops a bit). _________________

It's nice to finally see some video of the gameplay, it's looking great! I agree that it's interesting to see enemies from Cross Edge in there, I wonder what's going on? I'd have said that they were setting both games in the same world, but given the setting of Cross Edge, that seems unlikely. Oh well, I'm sure they have their reasons. _________________

Joy indeed, I've been crossing my fingers hoping this game would get a localisation! It's set to be released in June. I can't wait for this one, it's going to be epic:
The box art is also rather pretty (and huge):

Yeah, I was very glad to hear about NISA localizing it a month back. My friends who played the Japanese version said its quite an improvement over Cross Edge. _________________
