Hey guys, I wasn't sure where to post this so general gaming will do I guess.

I have a dilemma that I need some advice on.

I am currently the happy owner of an xbox 360 which my brother ever so generously gave me for my birthday (I told him I couldn't accept it, but he insisted) anyway prior to the 360 I was a playstation man through and through. Loved God of War and Gran Turismo etc. Now last month at work I made my sales target and have a nice juicy commission cheque coming my way. I also have a left over Harvey Norman voucher from our engagement party to the value of $260, which my fiancé says I can have as it's not enough to buy something substantial.

Here's where my dilemma comes in. I jokingly said to the missus that I would use the voucher to buy a PS3! To my surprise she says ok!! So I can now buy myself the PS3 I always wanted! But now while waiting for my comm cheque to come through, I start thinking do I REALLY need a PS3?? I mean it's a few hundred bucks with the voucher but it's still a few hundred bucks! I could use the cash for more 360 games or whatever!

So my question to you all is should I buy a ps3 when I already have a 360?! Does anyone own both and regret it?! Or own both and love it?!
Oh and I am hanging to play god of war 3 to!!

Sorry if I got on a rant there guys!! Thanks for any input!

Seems like a no brainer then.....

plenty of other games too, Unchartered 1/2, MGS4, KZ2, GT5 (soon, maybe?)...etc etc...

i own both, i have to say i barely turn on the ps3, but it is getting better....something about it doesn't sit right with me.
But plenty of people love theirs, i can't even put my finger on what gives me the shits about it, i think it's psn and most of my real life friends are on 360 so it's mainly habit that i will come home and turn on the 360 rather than the ps3......due to most of my friends not being around my actual vicinity it is a very social thing for me to go home have a beer and crap on while playing some co op....
Generally speaking though the good and bad points of both probably even out so if you want to play an exclusive on the ps3, i would say get it (you would have to love gow3), if there isn't any you really want to play, i'd probably take the missus out on the town instead icon_smile.gif

^ Same boat.

But I couldn't live without a PS3 though because there are a couple of games I have to play each year. But generally it collects dust.

Justify it this way. If you don't have a blu-ray player, get a PS3 anyway!

Yer I have to agree with you fetidchimp, I have played around with PSN on my mates PS3 and it just doesn't feel right. Might be because I'm used to the 360 dash, it just seems alot easier to navigate etc.
And Im a bit of an achievement whore to. The trophy set up for some reason doesn't appeal to me. The layout annoyed me while looking at my mates.
I spose it's still also a Blu Ray player. It that just me trying to justify the purchase?
And yer I have played a bit of GOW3 and it really drew me back in. But it's alot of $$ for what is basically one game! MGS4 also interests me tho... Hmmm.... Still undecided!

i think you hit the nail right on my head there...it feels clunky to me the psn.

(Evilly enough i have owned killzone 2, mgs4, little big planet, uncharted 2 all for quite a while now and i have put in about 5 minutes on each, i can feel a little bit of rage on a few people there, haha, i really do have to play uncharted 2 and killzone one of these days ---- in fact i own about 20 ps3 games, i finished infamous and yeah, thats it)

I'm going to be different to Fed and Leon and say, Yes get one. If your wife is OK with it and you have the money to afford one, go for it.

While everyone is different and several people prefer XBl, I actually prefer PSN. I find the menu is nice and easy and free online is also great.

I prefer the PS3, mainly cause I prefer the exclusive titles and the controller (but thats a personal thing) and its great for Blu rays too.

Both systems compliment each other and the PS3 has an excellent range of games, making it worthy purchase.

As you said, you want God of War 3 (and you could also get the God of War Collection) and MGS4, but there are several other exclusives worth owning. Heavy Rain is amazing, Uncharted series is a must own, Little Big Planet is fun and then there is inFamous, Killzone 2, Resistance 2, Valkyria Chronicles and then there are a few upcoming exclusives that look awesome too.

I say if you want it, get it, esp since you had the previous PS consoles.

The 360 is my weapon of choice for most multi-platform games, but the PS3 has some awesome exclusives which have already been mentioned, plus I use the PS3 for storing and watching movies (simple to install a large capacity HDD & won't void the warranty), watching YouTube clips and missed episodes of GoodGame, as a PVR (with PlayTV), and for watching Blu-Rays! It's a great bit of kit and I think over the coming few years it will only get stronger. Go for it I say icon_wink.gif

The PS3 gets turned on everyday. Great games on it. Great PSN download titles. PJE PJM PJS SHatter SSHD

also AAA+ titles. I played over 200+ hours of uncharted2. Its MP game is great. And PSone re-releases. FFVII is out. FFVIII is out. And they just announced FFIX.

and bluray

people saying PSN/XMB is too confusing to use. Its designed to be really intuitive and easy. If you've ever used a PSP, you'll know that its easy to use. As for PSN, confusing? No. Please. Any sort of interface, if you're new to it, sure it'll be confusing. Use it a day. Its natural and easy. - if anything. the xbox interface with its redesign was to bring it more in line with sony's XMB with it lateral scrolling tabs so yeah.

and on that note, you can buy PSP+PSPmicro games on PSN as well.

Ps3 is a power house. It's a solid recommendation if you're going to use it for several things apart from games.

Gaming is good on it too, especially because most of the exclusives are pretty high in quality. That being said, most Multiplayer on it is fairly weak with small community bases, bar from things such as MW2, BC2, and to a lesser extent, Uncharted 2.

Really the question is more or less "if I spend $500 on this machine, will I get $500 out of it when using it?" Just think about how you'll use it in general and in the long run, and you pretty much answer your own question. Everyone's different.

The one thing I really love about my PS3 is the region free games. Its not a big deal to most people but I love being able to play sports titles that get locked on the 360.

So thats another positive. If I were you I would jump all over the chance to grab one.

I'm a PS3-only person so I'd say go for one, personally I have no interest in getting a 360 at all as the PS3 fulfills all my gaming needs. However I can't recommend spending $500 on a console to play one game, are there any other PS3 games that interest you?

Some really good points raised by everyone! Thanks!
I gotta say I had both playstation 1 & 2 and thought the controller could be no better. Ever. Then I played a 360 and I instantly fell in love with it. Love the weight of it and the design of where the analog sticks sit.
I haven't ever had a play on a psp so I'm not sure what the interface is like unfortunately.
Apart from GOW3 I think resistance and metal gear is about all that interest me. Maybe uncharted too.
I suppose at the end of the day I'm telling myself, I don't get the opportunity to spend this amount of money often, I worked hard for it, the missus had ok'd it, fuk it! Why not!!
Thanks guys! Your input has pushed me over the line, sold!
I'll update in a few weeks once I've had it for a while, and give some impressions and comparisons.
Anyone wanna send me there psn friend thingy? icon_smile.gif

I've been tossing up about getting back into the PS3 gaming.

This thread has sent me over the line. I think I'll do it.

(I already have the blu-ray player, so don't need it for that, so has made the umming and arrring a bit more of a challenge)

You will enjoy your purchase, I got both the 360 and ps3 and they are used often. Best of both worlds.
If there was something to deter me from buying it, it would be that the online community seems small where you won't be able to find matches online for some older titles if that's your thing. Also getting disconnected from psn at times when your playing online seems common (for my mates and I anyway).

But other than that it's great, I use it as my media player also.
psn id is 'aye_t' btw icon_wink.gif

I too own both, however it is the opposite situation for me, I barely turn on the 360 now. All of the exclusives I like (Uncharted, Wipeout, Ratchet and Clank, Gran Turismo to name a few) are on the Playstation.

Good choice though Gank Moves, and I hope you enjoy it icon_biggrin.gif

add: install ps3mediaserve on your pc and you can stream all sorts of content to your PS3. It really makes it a media center if you don't have a HTPC.

just soooooo good.

Whenever someone asks about whether they should get a new console or not I always say the same thing.

Go over to Play asia (I pick them because they have a decent range but use whoever) and spend some time going through the list of PS3 games... chuck every EXCLUSIVE game you think looks like something you'd enjoy in to your cart.
When you're done go look through your cart, on first glance you should work out whether or not it's worth it.

Thanks mauii that's a pretty good idea!

I'm gonna get one anyway but it would interesting to see what I might end up buying/playing.

Is play tv out yet? If so, is it any good? I've had a read about it and it sounds like it works the same way as a hdd recorder? Can anyone recommend it?
