meh - seriously, basing it on a post count alone doesn't seem very VIP-like. _________________ GAMEparents

Basing VIP's purely on large post counts simply isn't the best way to go about identifying major members of the community. Personally I thought the method of a Staff nomination system was the most logical.

I'm so awesome I get included without even knowing about it.
Perhaps a ploy to get me back? Yeah, unlikely -- who would want that? _________________

I didn't whinge when it was nomination based, that system was as good as it could possibly get imo, the only people that it could have possibly upset is socially retarded insecure people that a desperate to become VIP to feel special, but have no way of achieving it as that would require actually making decent posts and coming across as a cool person (oh and to anyone thinking 'ohh but it's biased towards the popular members' crap, this is true but around here the popular people are usually (if not always) popular for a good reason).
The new VIP method though could send those socially retarded insecure enough people on posting rampages desperate to get that VIP status for the sake of feeling special. I don't think it will have anything but a negative effect on this forum and the quality of its posts.
The old method I however believe, at least very slightly promotes good posting, but not very much, as the sort of people that would be getting VIP back with the old system wouldn't be posting with getting/keeping the VIP status in mind. _________________

Well it did get me to visit.
I haven't been here for a while, you guys all know that, but even so I don't see why a compromise between the two can't be made. People over 5000 posts, generally speaking, are the people who have been here for years and who are the exemplary posters of this forum, but there are some who are below the 5k limit who also deserve recognition, and since you guys all know who the decent posters are around here it should be pretty obvious who deserves VIP status and who doesn't. The system should reward the people who are very important to this community, while the rest of the members should be following the example and posting maturely, respectfully and not wasting their time trying to spam the forums or whatever. It's not about post count, it shouldn't be about favourites or who is friends with who -- it's about conduct and ultimately sharing a passion with a group of like-minded individuals.
That said, I can understand the change and besides, I don't exactly have a say anymore considering how long an absence I've had. _________________

I know I'll get * crucified for saying this, but I reckon we should just take this time to congratulate the current/new VIPs and then carry on posting, thus moving on.

I'm a positive person most of the times...but thank you in advance. _________________

E-names that are coloured elicit such an interesting response.
May my name never be seen in colour. Colour divides. Creates class struggle. In this day and age, let us not look upon our fellow man as a colour but as a human being. Just like the one reading this. I pledge from this day forth to be a man of substance and humanity, not of colour.
We are all one. Join me.
And so on.
Now, continue crying about missing out on your name prettying up. _________________

Yeah, I don't like the idea of people trying to spam to get VIP, but it's 5000 posts, that's not something you can do in a weekend. It'll become glaringly obvious if someone tries to do this... _________________

Why not base it on spoons as that's a good indicator of a valuable poster. _________________ "Gentlemen we just seized an airfield... That was pretty f***ing ninja."

No matter what option we choose there will be complaints - it's inevitable with only a small number of people benefiting.
This move is more of a reduction of the system - coloured names are now just a reward for reaching 5k posts. As others have said, if someone tries to spam their way to 5k our enthusiastic mods will be there to step in their way.
