PSN download speeds - slow

Just popped in Burnout Paradise to play. version 1.9 - 7 downloads according to the bottom bar. Left it to download. My download is max 1.5mb/second and the thing doesn't move. I retried, left it alone for 10 minutes and it got to 1%.

anyone experiencing really slow speeds?

trophy sync is also similarly slow. They've implemented compare trophies - but have you tried to use this?

I think it's worth noting that when a game requires multiple patches (in this case 7), it also counts the actual installation of each patch in the progress bar. Say the 1st patch finishes downloading with the progress bar at 13%, it'll install the patch and move onto 26% and move onto the next patch.

So really, take the 'progress complete' and double it, and that's how much is really done. Also, Burnout Paradise has well over 1GB of patches, so it won't be quick on any connection. You're also able to download 1 patch at a time, once one is finished you can cancel out after it has installed and continue on from the next patch whenever if you don't feel like waiting hours and hours. Hopefully Sony introduce background downloading of patches, there's no reason why they can't.


On the topic of speeds though, I've never had a problem and have always downloaded at full speed, and syncing trophies takes like 2-3 seconds. It might be worth testing your connection. Just go to 'Network Settings', and 'Internet Connection Test' and it'll report your Download/Upload speeds.

PSN speeds for me have always been rubbish. I dread every new firmware update/game patch because I know I'll have at least a half hour wait ahead of me. There is the occasional moment were the speed will reach something I'd call acceptable, but those instances are few and far between.

Wireless connection over here, with all the PSN ports forwarded through my router. I don't get it at all.

My Xbox Live speeds on the other hand are super fast so it's not a problem with my wireless setup. The problem lies with the PS3.

My PSN speed is usually decent, I have my PS3 set as a DMZ server so I don't have to forward any ports...

I connect my PS3 directly to my modem and yes, its speed is generally quite crap, but it is universally considered so I always see people complaining about it. Xbox 360 downloads a lot faster, but millions of people pay them to run that, so...

This is the sole reason I've given up on anything really to do with online ps3. Lag issues and crappy content servers.

I purcahsed ff8 the other day and that actually downloaded really well after 30 min of screwing around with settings, pausing and unpausing.

Some patches can be a pain, especially the system updates. The day 2 patch for GOW3 was rather fast though I must say.


I'd say the worst download speed's I've dealt with are:

-downloading songs from the singstore.
-downloading the ps home beta.

Just downloaded the 200mb Heavy Rain patch, took 10 minutes. I don't think the download speeds were slow at all for that >.>

I've never had any problems with the PS3's download speed. It is always as fast as downloading something on my computer would be. That's wired though, connected straight to the modem. Wireless is pretty slow.

Lol far from pro. It is adsl2 but like 3-4km from the exchange T____T lol.

On topic, trophy comparing is super slow though It is almost worth not bothering because of how long it takes.

I get blazing fast speeds with PS3. I also get it with XBL as well though, and that's quota free (yay for iiNet).

Never actually had a problem with either of them, really.

lol my exchange is 1.03 kms away and i plugged my cat 5 directly into the modem and still get exceptional speeds, except sometimes when I'm loading a page with many unique buttons then it chucks a spaz, then when i capped my net it wants to run fast still bigpond wouldn't be to happy with that, but then bigpond's unpleasant-ness is my happiness, even tho i called them today to tell them that I was disconnecting then they turn around and say whats wrong with the service so on and so forth they upgrade me to 25gb a month for the same price fair deal.

i think what youl find there is the PS3 just inst optimized in that regard , its possible to play games in standerd def , its possible to use wirless for PSN related things , its possblie to play ps2 and ps1 games , none of those things work pertiucly well its just one of those things where one way will work better then the other

i have a strong feeling that its just the psn servers more then your connection or your settings.
9 times out of 10 i get great speeds but then there is that other time that i get a really slow update or download (usually during heavy traffic times on the psn)
but i really think it is just the servers not favouring you, i dont think there would be much you could do to help it go any faster, you have it wired so no need for dmz or anything like that, and it cant be put down to something interferring like wireless may get.
so really i think your just unlucky more then anything on the psn.

im on wireless and adsl2 in a regional area and it seems to download quicker on the ps3 then on my computer so i think im just super lucky. and nothing special about my set up or anything.
