I might pick up Persona 3 for a PSP when I eventually get one. It's a shame though, I was kinda hoping P5 would be on the PS3...

I understand where you're coming from ... it seems quite a lot of series are moving to handhelds. It's not a bad thing, but I guess it sort of makes consoles feel redundant sometimes. And you also need to have the console, which can be a pain.

Yo, I am. It's decent. At first it felt like it was just Etrian Odyssey with some references to SMT but a few hours I find it is much (MUCH MUCH) more story driven.
They've done a lot with the DS limitations, it really does feel like a console game but at the same time I feel like it could have been done better on the console.

In terms of the soundtrack, it is probably the weakest in the series but I haven't heard the final (boss) track yet which is usually where the composer shines.

Great to hear you're enjoying it. Etrian Odyssey instantly came to mind when I first saw images of Strange Journey. I've given the soundtrack a listen already and I find it really grows on you, it's definitely unique. Hopefully my copy arrives next week so I can start getting into it.

I just received my replacement Strange Journey soundtrack CD. Apparently the CD packaged with the game was faulty, as in it wouldn't play on a CD player but you could still rip the music. I wasn't sure if Atlus would send one all the way to Australia but they did. You can still get a replacement sent out if you haven't already.

The game is fantastic and definitely has that SMT vibe. The gameplay is very similar to EO but then they're both dungeon crawlers. Demon capturing/fusion is a lot of fun and there's over 300 demons! Anyway, I'm not very far into it so far (sector 2) but I'm enjoying it a lot.

What? Oh man...I ordered my Strange Journey from Play Asia (still waiting on it to arrive). Does this mean my soundtrack CD won't work either? How do you get a replacement?

Jessara forced me to order it. I would probably never play the CD anyway, but I guess it's not hard to order it.

It would be nice if Atlus realised that there's some Aussie fans here, though, and releases some of their games here, even in limited quantities. We have got a few of them, but the majority aren't released in PAL. Nice to know they're willing to send this CD across to us, though.

I'm only just getting into Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey, having only played about an hour of it on Friday. I was just poking around on GameFAQs and came across the whole demon password thing and found a link to the official forums which has official passwords for demons you cannot obtain in the game if you don't have a password. Anyway for those who are interested, here's some info on the demon password thing and Official passwords released by Atlus below it.

Quote:
1) How do I use a password someone gives me?

Open the Demonica menu and choose Demon Data, then go to Demon Compendium. Select Register and go to the bottom of the list to one of the three purple "PWD" slots. Choose any one of these and you'll be asked if you want to register a password demon. Select yes and you'll be taken to a text entry screen where you can input a password.

2) How do I summon a password demon once I have one?

Once you've registered a password demon, it'll be in your compendium like all the others you have for you to summon. Open the Demonica menu and choose Demon Data, then go to Demon Compendium. Select View and go to the bottom of the list where you should see the password demon registered in one of the PWD slots. Select it and pay the associated macca fee to summon it into your active stock. Once it's summoned, you can then choose to register it as a regular demon in the compendium.

3) I have a demon I want to share. How do I get its password?

Open the Demonica menu and choose Demon Data, then go to Demon Compendium. Select View and find the demon you want to show off, then press A and choose the "Generate password" option. Be sure to double check the password before you share it!

4) I put in a password but I can't summon the demon. Help?

You can register any password demon you find, but you will be unable to summon them into your party if your level is too low (you must be at least at the demon's level in order to summon it) or if you don't have enough macca to afford the demon. A demon's cost is determined mostly by its skills, so the demons with the best skills will be the most expensive to summon!

Official Passwords:

Yoma Koppa Tengu
Neutral-Law

Level: 5 / HP: 70 / MP: 40
Phys: - / Gun: Wk / Fire: - / Ice: - /Elec: - / Wind - / Light: - /Dark: -
St: 3 / Ma: 6 / Vi: 5 / Ag: 7 / Lu: 4

Bufu
Zio

Password: Left hand freeze
Right hand shock

Just starting out? Use this password to get the level 5 Law demon Koppa Tengu with Bufu and Zio, two skills it normally won’t have. This way, one demon can take care of hitting two types of enemy weaknesses.

Vermin Mothman
Dark-Neutral

Level: 5 / HP: 88 / MP: 72
Phys: - / Gun: Wk / Fire: - / Ice: - /Elec: St / Wind Wk / Light: - /Dark: -
St: 6 / Ma: 22 / Vi: 11 / Ag: 12 / Lu: 12

Garu
Magaru
Dream Needle

Password: Prophecy of wind

If you’d rather specialize, though, here’s a Mothman, a Neutral demon who’s only level 5 with this password. Normally he’s level 29, but even though his stats are lower here than his base incarnation, they’re still higher than what you’ll get from other level 5 demons. He comes with Garu and Magaru, allowing you to target either single enemies or groups with hard-hitting wind spells.

Brute Oni
Neutral-Chaos

Level: 8 / HP: 100 / MP: 51
Phys: St / Gun: - / Fire: St / Ice: St /Elec: St / Wind: St / Light: - /Dark: -
St: 5 / Ma: 7 / Vi: 9 / Ag: 5 / Lu: 8

Resist Fire
Resist Ice
Resist Elec
Resist Wind

Password: Thick red skin

Using this password will give you an unusual version of the level 8 Chaos demon Oni. It has none of a regular Oni’s combat skills, but it does come with skills that resist all four of the standard elements in the game. Not only can it take most attacks and remain standing, it makes great fusion fodder!

Fairy Silky
Neutral-Neutral

Level: 22 / HP: 202 / MP: 122
Phys: - / Gun: - / Fire: Wk / Ice: St /Elec: - / Wind - / Light: - /Dark: -
St: 14 / Ma: 20 / Vi: 13 / Ag: 15 / Lu: 17

Bufula
Glacial Blast
Diarama
Media
Shooting Spree

Password: Soothing ice

Finally, if you’ve already played a little ways in, here’s a special version of the level 22 Neutral demon Silky. It’s got a skill set that’s good for both offense and defense: Diarama and Media to heal your party and Bufula and Glacial Blast to freeze the enemy, plus Shooting Spree for anything whose only weakness is bullets.

A couple of more official ones found on Destructoid, no stats available like the above ones though.

Hare of Inaba

Password: X-X!Hol

For X-X!Hol: In Japanese lore, the Hare of Inaba’s tricks backfired when some sharks ripped the skin from his body. This version of the Hare is pumped up and out for revenge: he’s 15 levels higher than his base form, knows Kamikaze to sacrifice himself while dealing nasty damage, and doesn’t need a god’s help to heal himself afterward—not when Diarahan will recover full HP.

Megami Ishtar

Password: ISHTAR FIGHTS
TAMMUZ ANGELS

For ISHTAR FIGHTS / TAMMUZ ANGELS: You can get 100% Compendium completion through the course of normal play in Strange Journey, but there are some demons that don’t affect that total and aren’t available at all except through passwords. At last, the first of these is revealed: Megami Ishtar, a level 51 Light-Law demon who specializes in leveling the playing field after a bad setback. Amrita will clear any status ailments you receive, Silent Prayer eliminates all buffs and debuffs from all combatants in the fight, and Invitation revives and resummons a KO’ed demon in one easy step.

Queen of the Faeries, Titania

The base version of the Queen of the Faeries, Titania, has some powerful skills including Maziodyne and Mediarahan. But if you want something a little different, you might try out this special Titania, who trades what she has in multi-target damage and healing for more overall versatility: with Agidyne, Bufudyne, and Ziodyne, she can exploit three times the weaknesses, and if you're frowning at the lack of party-wide damage, well, is Megidolaon good enough for you? Call on this level 60 Neutral-Neutral demon with:

Password: summon smt.queen

Alciel, the Black Sun

If you've got a Law party cooking and want a physical powerhouse, then Alciel, the Black Sun, may fit the bill. Another password-only demon, Alciel has some drawbacks-he's weak to physical and gun attacks, and you won't want to put him up against any Expel-users-but he has stamina and HP enough to survive the hits and the Counter skill to dish them right back. And that's when he's on the receiving end of damage; when he's dishing it out, his Hades Blast does heavy physical damage to the entire enemy party. Summon this level 61 Dark-Law demon with:

Password: ALCARMOR

NOTE: Passwords are case sensitive.

You can also find tonnes of player-made demons here: http://www.atlus.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6781

I know that a few people here have the game, is anyone interested in sharing demon passwords at some point? When I get further in the game, I'll definitely post some up. So if you have anything interesting to share, please do and I'll add them to this post icon_smile.gif If there's enough interest in this, I might put all of this into its own thread.

Hmm ... interesting ... I didn't realise that was possible. So, it's basically like trading a Pokemon, except you don't need Wifi, and you don't actually lose your original demon. That's pretty cool. Is there no limit to what you can do?

Just say someone made some demon that was an extremely high level and then someone used the password to put that high level demon into their relatively new game ... is there any repercussions? I know that it would probably make things too easy and boring, but I'm curious.

I don't think it works, you have to be around the same level and have the right amount of macca (which I'm guessing is the name of the currency) to pay for the demon and no wifi needed at all, just obtain the password from someone and put it in icon_smile.gif

I think I should stop looking stuff up and get stuck into the game...I just found this whole demon password thing really interesting so I had to learn more about it before fully diving into the game.

Ah, so that's the catch then ... Macca. I could see certain demons could be majorly expensive in that case.

Thanks for the heads up and make sure to tell us about it.

Bad in a good way, I take it? Or bad in a bad way that you probably wouldn't want anyone to have the passwords in the first place? icon_wink.gif

How's everyone doing with Strange Journey? I haven't had much of a chance to play it this last week, been busily either playing other things or preparing my house for guests on the weekend. I'm also kind of hesitant to play it yet until a friend starts with it so we can exchange demon passwords etc...

Oh by the way, I added two newly released official passwords to my post on demon passwords.

Oh, I said this in the DS RPG Thread, but it's worth repeating: Whoever designed Eridanus is a dick.
A third of the first floor is just a series of warp points in which you will undoubtedly lose yourself in; another third is filled with trap tiles that either induce sleep or poison, and the boss heals for 161 HP each turn, and I'm doing only 250 damage a turn, slowly chipping away at his 2300 HP as he occasionally 2HKOs me.
Oh, and I accidentally ended up on the Law path even though I wanted to remain neutral, so now I'm being a jerk to all my crew members when they try talk to me.

HAET

Edit: Oh, I have, like, a billion demon sources though, so if anybody wants me to fuse them a demon (currently) lower than ~level 45 with no weaknesses/more elemental spells and give them the password, give a shout. Skill Inheritance rules have changed, but I still quite enjoy demon fusion, and can happily spend hours finding a good combination.

Well ... who's heading over to America to preorder P3P now?

Quote:
Gamers who pre-order the upcoming PSP title Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable from Gamestop or Amazon in either the US or Canada will receive a free Junpai cap with their purchase when the game ships on July 6, 2010. These caps are limited, so Atlus recommends pre-ordering soon to ensure yours. Online orders state that the cap will ship with the game, though in-store customers will have to hope their caps are still available come release day.

I don't think either of those places sell outside of America, do they? Bummer for us.

Quote:
This portable version contains all of the main game content offered in Persona 3 minus The Answer storyline found in FES, but also adds one-button menu shortcuts, the option of controlling party members in combat, a streamlined interface for equipment changes, and other featues found in the sequel, Persona 4. Along with these upgrades is the option to play as a new female main character, experiencing the game from a new perspective.

Here's the hat for anyone interested.

Amazon seem happy to ship to Australia, the postage cost can be crazy though. I think I can live without the cap. icon_razz.gif Should have been a mini-evoker or something a bit cooler.

Lol, a gun you reckon?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'll live without the cap, too. I don't really wear any gaming related stuff and I'm not about to start!

Still, I think it's nice to see incentives like this ... even if they're the sort you go, "Oh, that's nice" and then put up on a shelf somewhere.

I think it's just a good idea.

Anyway, count me in for a P3P purchase ... is anyone going to play as the girl first time through? I heard that also playing at the guy is also different because different scenes and dialogue have been added, which I think sounds great. But yeah, I think I might start playing as the girl first time through, at least. Can a girl be classified as a playa? Or is it that other nasty word? icon_wink.gif

Sure will, though some of the social links will be awkward from a male perspective icon_razz.gif (I hear you can even romance Ken...). I think the closest thing to what your thinking the female player can wear might be the high cut armour or swimwear.

I hear that that only relationship you can have where it's actually implied in game that there's funny business going on is with Shinji, though.
As far as I'm concerned, if I get this and actually play it (I've already gone through it twice, so a third 70 hour playthrough might be a bit much), it'd be worth it to play as feMC (argh, I can't find her canon name) just so you don't have to deal with that food gourmet cult guy. Because, well,

Yeah.
