ADLS 2+ - I live about 3.6km from the exchange by cable according to adsl2exchanges.com.au which should give me a speed of about 2.5Mbps. I can't wait for the NBN to be fully implemented - I've never experienced speeds greater than 300KB, haha. |
You should be getting double that. I am the same distance from the exchange and I get this
or about 600kb
Have you tried a different router, checked the cables etc? _________________

You should be getting more than double if you have ADSL2+, should be 17 mb/s at least.

Nah, if you are 3-4 kms from the exchange the line attenuation is to high to get anything close 10 17mb/s _________________

Yep, I've changed the router/modem to a Billion 7404VGPX. No real change in the speed. I'm at work atm so I can't post line sync speeds. If anything, my modem is connected to a socket downstairs (for practical reasons) while the central line is upstairs and has a big line filter installed on it so I don't need filters for the other sockets. I'm yet to do an isolation test (haven't had time) but will try one over the weekend. Apart from that, is there anything else I can do to try and bump up the speeds? _________________

That's RMIT's test. It actually feels slower than this, probably because it runs through various proxies and such. _________________ My Photos

I have a really old Billion modem 7420GL and I sometimes wonder if buying a new spangled ADSL2+ modem would help speed things up. It has to be at least 4-5 years old.

I'm only a few kms from Skilled Park and can get ADSL2+. Strange you can't get it... |
I'm in Varsh*tty mate, what about you then?
I have checked several, several times. Made many, many phone calls to lots of different companies and still the answer is - we can't supply anything to you. Except for wireless... _________________

According to a "leak" on Whirlpool (since pulled, see link), Optus are bringing out new cable broadband plans in May.
These deals sound awesome, $49.95 for 120gb anyone?
Hopefully these are true, Optus have put their foot down saying it's all rumour of course. _________________ My Photos

Hopefully there is something I can change to, faster than 1.5 mb/s but still around 50 gigs a month (49.95 plan would be amazing value if it was in our area). And hopefully Naked, as my mum has wanted that for a while. I can't check if we can get Optus Cable, it can't find my address.

here is my poor excuse of adsl2+
but in saying that our telephone line runs across our front lawn and across the fence (temporary line - does 12 months later still mean its temporary or to me its seems its now permanent)
but seriously considering changing to tpg before i buy a house telstra just costs way to much for what i use. _________________

I'm next to the Robina Woods Golf Course. I moved here about 6 months ago and had to wait a little while for them to set up ADSL2+ but I still had access to ADSL1. Have a look at http://www.yourbroadband.com.au/ , you can check exactly what services, plans and ISP's are available in your area. Saves you any more hassle of calling around.

Internode are changing their plans soon, including the Fast plans (8 mb/s), and Easy Broadband, or Easy Broadband 2 as they are calling it. Hopefully EB goes up to 8 mb/s, or Fast plans come down a bit in price.

Sighly face.
Being on a pair gain line unfortunately destroys my chances of any adsl2+ love.
On Telstra Cable, 50gb a month. _________________
