I bought it today as well and you don't actually need to download the update to play. Just press circle and it allows you to play, only downside is that it signs you out of the PSN (like all games that are refused updates).
I don't understand the second part of your rant so I'll just leave it at that.

Big deal, so you had to wait for a download because it was going at a slow pace and why complain about bandwith? Unless your ISP charges you more if you use a lot of it.
This thread should be closed because there's no discussion about MvC2; just pointless ranting. _________________

I understand his frustration, it's like downloading 200mb for the game, then the same amount for an update.... it's like he's downloaded the game twice!!!
That would set me off aswell

Don't buy Super Stardust HD then... The patches are far larger than the game itself _________________

same thing with heavy rain - day one patches are a massive pain - and yes, all games on the network should auto download the latest version. I understand the frustration _________________

Yeh ok guys... I think by now you should be used to buying a game and installing then having to download updates, I remember MW2 had updates every single day for a whole week and I bought it on release date... most games are the same.
That's just software development, you'll find any software you buy will most probably update immediately...
But yeah... stoopid post this... as Kerrby said... just press circle and enjoy the game if it frustrates you that much. _________________

I'd say it probably allows them to polish the final game without delaying the release date. Kinda sucks a bit for those with no/poor internet connections, but for those with solid connections it's probably better.

So why are the updates 200mb and not 5-10mb like Xbox360 updates?
Like THEMAN said, why not just replace the original game with the patched version, so you only have to download once.
I have ADSL2 connecting at 20mb and it still take friggin ages to download patches on the PS3. _________________ XBL/PSN/Steam: BenC82

There must be something wrong with your connection then. My 1.5 mb/s (150 kb/s download) connection downloads most patches in under 5 minutes.

Look at it this way: patches actually fix things. If the games weren't patched then there would be plenty of glitches (not referring to any particular game) and you'd be complaining about how glitchy the game is. You either download the patches and play a (usually) reasonably glitch-free game (and then complain about the download time) or you play a glitchy game and complain about the problems.
As for the suggestion of including the patches in the original download: either way it would take exactly the same amount of time to download. If the patches were included in the game download there would be no option to cancel them either, which I see as a definite downside.
My patch installations are usually longer than my patch downloads now, heh.
Also: the patches are larger on the PS3 as opposed to the 360 because different things are being fixed in each version. It's actually a good sign because it means the developers are catering the game to the individual platforms. _________________ Putting the pro back in alien probing techniques.
