Hey peeps, I figured I'd post this thread there as it relates more to Blu-ray discs.

Does anyone know if using existing DVD disc cleaners will damage Blu-ray discs? I loaned a game to a friend and it came back with some fingerprints on the readable side.

What else does everyone do to clean their PS3 discs?

blu rays tend to be pretty safe , try rubbing the disk with a non adhvise lint free cloth of sorts ( some type of shirt or glass cleaner ) marks go on pretty easy and come off pretty easy , just gentliy rub it and it should come off id advise not using any liquoeds least for blu rays

Cheers for that,

I was reading elsewhere that the layers on a BR disc were closer than that of a DVD, so I was a little reserved about using cleaning agents.

Well, I know that a lot of buffing machines can't fix them, they actually damage them more, because of the thinner layers. Though I'm sure there would be some that could clean them.

putting them in a freezer helps rub it the correct way with a tissue or TP. (just like putting a HDD in there 2 making it run smoother.)

I actually don't clean them as i am not sure on what's good and what isn't.

I've gone ok with marks on my ps3 game discs, most are durable.... although i've had a few suspect marks on two game discs 1) Modern Warfare 2 - which isn't surprising considering how often i play it + i accidentally hit the eject button on the ps3 blu-ray remote while it was loading a map once icon_evil.gif). The other game was Uncharted 2, which i found was annoying - as the disc WAS new (sealed copy). Had me being paranoid over whether my console was starting to become a problem.... but i've played plenty of other games in between and they are mark free, just need to be more wary with dust.

** i actually was going to go on a long rant about maintaining discs, but i'll save you guys the icon_rolleyes.gif at having to read my diatribe icon_smile.gif.

I thought bd discs had scratch resisant stuff on it. Whenever I have had a mark on a disc I just wipe it with one of those microfibre clothes and there gone. If anything bd discs are the easiest to keep clean.

yep spot on. like you and mikezilla said to use those clothes, and im sure (well sorta sure) i read something from Sony about NOT using any cleaning agents on them, and deffinetly not using a disc drive cleaning thing.

should see my discs they are horrible, finger prints, dust, even dirt lol. but still all good.

That's what i thought aswell, but for whatever reason i have marks on two game discs icon_cry.gif. Touch wood though, as i said last night i've used the console many times - different games in between and they are still mark free icon_smile.gif.

I'm wary of dust due to being in a dusty area, as said previously, i've basically been playing videogames in the same room over the last 10 years or so..... dust started becoming a problem 3 - 4 years ago icon_confused.gif. The build up has never been as bad (or as thick) as it used to be, i could wipe everything down - tv, around the tv, the cabinet and the area i rest the console on. And it's back to being covered in dust within 2 hours icon_confused.gif, i wouldn't whinge if it was only a little.... but in the few hours it looks like a few weeks to a month build up.

I used to have a few disc wipe cloths - i settled on these , but they stopped being accessible in store. I tried migrating to other alternatives, but i HATE the wet wipe versions, more often than not they left marks on the discs (after practicing with them on other discs, there was no way i was ever going to use them on proper dvds and games).

I wanted to avoid going on a rant about keeping discs clean, looks like i couldn't avoid it. Most of my collection is mark free (going back from OLD pc-cd games from the mid 90's, psx, ps2, 360, music cds, dvds, ps3 etc). Although it rarely happens, it still irritates me if i do get the occasional scratch on a game disc.

blurays are meant to be damn near unscratchable. :S I do have a neato maxwell bluray laser cleaning disc though. Never used it - still shrink wrapped.
