It's freaking awesome (except for the ********* camera angles when on balance beams, they can go die in a fire).
The only downside I can see is it's going to force me to buy a PS3 for the third game, otherwise I'll start having withdrawals, I don't think I'll be able to handle that. |
Are they really that good?
edit: Oh ok, Thanks for the heads up. I'll will try to get a hold of the GOW collection then. _________________

I impaled a god damn Hydra with teeth the size of my body on a ship's mast... so yes. The combat feels incredibly fluid, this early on it's quite easy to pick up on when enemies are going in for the attack so I can seemlessly block or dodge and still be well and truly in the fight.
I've never really been one to play this style of game before so it's all very fresh to me (played a few demo's of newer games as well as the first couple of levels of Ninja Gaiden, but it didn't feel as fluid in my opinion) which could be contributing to my love for the game, but yeah, it's pretty awesome and it does a really good job of creating epic experiences.

I've gone from one Rareware game to another in Donkey Kong 64.
So far so average. Now, I know some people may of enjoyed this game when they were younger (hell I used to) but going back to it I've found it to be terribly dated, easy and down right boring. Maybe I made the mistake of playing Banjo Tooie before this but I don't know if I'm going to enjoy it as much as I did when I was 10. _________________

I'm playing Final Fantasy XIII currently, around 40 hours so far, I have other things I want to play but they can wait.
I want to try to finish the main story of FFXIII before the 1st of March (start of Uni) so that I can attempt/try to concentrate on Uni more than my FF obsession _________________

Darksiders
Having a lot of fun with this game. Currently 12 hours in, just after giving the 4th heart to Samayel (or is it Samuel?).
Hopefully this next paragraph doesn't cause too much upset. The game heavily and blatantly steals from Zelda, it's actually kind of humorous. But not only does it do that, I think it even manages to improve on the Zelda formula. It removes lots of little annoying things that Zelda had, and adds in lots of cool things, oh and pretty much goes "well the Zelda combat system sucked, so lets replace it with the one from God of War." I think if you gave Darksiders a Zelda skin and more generic plot, it would be hailed as revolutionary and get a metacritic score in the high 90's with a quite a few GOTY awards to boot.
Now I'm not saying it deserves all that, defiantly not, but I don't think it's getting quite as much praise as it should be. _________________

Lost Odyssey
I'm 4 hours in and while its a good game, I'm just not really getting into it. I like the battle system, but am finding the Characters a bore really, am not a fan of the Dream Sequences and some the cutscenes and animations are just plan aweful in the way they are set out.
It definately lacks alot of things that Final Fantasy, Eternal Sonata, Mass Effect etc seem to nail. _________________

I kinda thought the opposite. I thought Kaim was such an awesome main character, and along with his and Seth's past made it even more interesting. The dream sequences were a great way to tell different parts of his back story too imo. _________________

Still playing MX vs Atv Reflex. Even though this game has a ton of flaws, its just so much fun to ride the dirt bikes, with the new control system.

Dante's Inferno [PS3]
I have to say that this is a highly entertaining game. The only gripe I have at the moment is the constant button mashing for some unnecessary moments, but overall the rest of the game is great.
I have just finished the 'LUST section', and that was absolutely intense! Without spoiling the scene for anyone, at one moment, I was saying to myself, 'No way, Dante won't...' and... I won't go on.
I guess this game will really depend on your style of play. Whilst it is a GoW clone, I would really consider the story as an important aspect of the decision making, because it is downright out there, and to a degree, disturbing (level maps included).
I score this game an 8/10, only because I haven't played GoW yet (sssh!). _________________ Playing: Fallout: New Vegas

I've also just started Dante's Inferno, and I'm quite surprised at how good it is. I'm really glad I gave it a chance. The game doesn't really do anything inherently wrong to justify some of the bad reviews it has recieved. Besides it being very similar to God of War, but I don't see how that's a problem. It's not like every single one of the top rated FPS games out there are original. So why is the action/adventure genre under more harsh scrutiny?
Anyway, so far the game has been awesome. Everything about it has been great, with exciting setpiece after exciting setpiece. The visuals, while not the greatest (though running at 60fps is very nice), has some incredible art design and disturbing imagery. Even just the small things like climbing walls of the damned, with their arms flailing out and screaming. I'm really enjoying the story too, it helps that the soundtrack is epic and it has some of the best CGI I've seen in a game, not to mention the animated flashback scenes.
As for the actual gameplay, it's great fun. Sure, it doesn't have the deepest combat system there is, but I've never really been a fan of DMC, NG etc. The only hack 'n slash games I've really liked are God of War and Heavenly Sword, so I'm right at home here. It's fast paced (no loadtimes and no install!) and brutal with plenty of upgrades, so no complaints here. My only small gripe with the combat system is with the QTE's. The button prompts are at the top of the screen, and they're a little harder to read than most, but this is balanced by the game being a little more forgiving in how long you have to press said button.
I'm loving it at the moment, I just hope the quality will be sustained the whole way through. I've been hearing some people say the game gets progressively worse from about 2/3's of the way through. From early impressions, this could be one of the most underrated games of the year (though I'm sure Yakuza 3 will win that award).
PS. Never seen so many boobs in a game before . And I've played Playboy The Mansion... not that I'm complaining _________________

Hired Rise of the Argonauts, it pretty much is the game equivalent to watching Jason and the Argonauts - It's a cool world and there are moments that are spectacular but the pacing truly puts one to sleep.
Also hired SSX Blur, the gameplay is there but the production values have been scaled back. It looks worse than SSX3 (Blur is the 5th), there is only some generic synth as music and a lot of the sound effects have been cut. Very dissapointing.

Well i recently acquired FEAR again. Thought i'd try to conquer my fear of horror games. Was having a good run until i turned around to go down a ladder and found Alma standing there laughing then to be met by Paxton at the bottom lunging for me as he faded away, well it had me lunging for the scare quit button pretty fast.
Will be trying my best to finish it, as i also have fear 2 to do too _________________

Just starting out on my PS3 experience. I'm currently focussing on GTA4. It is... not as good as the PS2 incarnations. The game is too serious, it doesn't really feel like a GTA game. Also started on Assasins Creed and Uncharted 2.

I've just finished Mass Effect 2 and for the last couple of hours I've been stuck trying to decide what I should play.
Eventually I decided it was time to pull out Persona 4, considering I've now finished the 3rd one, and that was the reason why Persona 4 was placed to the side. I have to say, I'm glad I chose this game to play again. I almost forgot how great it is.
I played for about 20 hours before it got shelved. The reason I wanted to play Persona 3 FES is because I heard that Persona 4 improves on everything and is technically a lot better. I skipped straight to 4 because it was cheap and I wasn't sure at that stage whether it was a game for me, but I can safely say now that if you're an RPG fan, you need to get into this series.
It's different enough from every other RPG with its murder mystery plot, but what I find I love about it the most is the fact that the teenagers are just that ... teenagers. The writing and the dialogue is quite witty and the characters are all likable in their own ways. By making the setting in the real world, it gives this eerie kind of feeling. Currently we're not dealing with a plot to end the world, we're dealing with abductions and murders, and the students are determined to find out why they're happening.
Overall, I think I like the majority of the characters in Persona 3 more, but having said that, I only have five of them currently and I'm not too far in. I can tell I will enjoy them, though, as their bickering can be quite hilarious.
It has a very stylised look and I don't think a game is all about the graphics ... it's about the art style. This game has a lot of character in its artwork and I don't think I've seen a series quite like it.
So, I know some of you have raved about it in the past, but for anyone who hasn't got it, and loves their RPGs, go get it asap.
Oh, also @ Andy:
I think a lot of current RPGS (but not all) have a few issues, but I found Lost Odyssey to be a great game in the end. I thought that there were a few memorable characters in it to warrant playing it all the way through, because I wanted to see what happened to them, and I remember how bittersweet the ending was. Some, like Sarah, were almost forgettable, though, and the game did have a few issues, but there are plenty of worse RPGs out there.
I know that there's a lot of dialogue in the dream sequences, but like mentioned, they really helped to flesh out this character of Kaim, this immortal person who has been wandering the land for a long, long time. We've all probably thought once upon a time how we'd love to live forever, but reading the things he's witnessed and the things he's been through, it makes you realise that you're not looking at the negative things about immortality. It also explains why Kaim is the way he is, I believe, and made him even more tragic than he already was. _________________

Dragon Age Origins
Started playing as a Mage, but after an hour and a half I decided to start as a human female rogue and I'm enjoying that class much more. My guess is because it's easier for a dolt like me to play as.
Anyway, I'm up to the forest section (becoming a Grey Warden). But being an RPG novice I'm finding a lot of the stuff going over my head, particularly the customisation of skills and what have you. I just don't know what's the best things to upgrade and what's worthless. But I'll learn that the more I play I suppose.

What things would they be? I personally thought Lost Odyssey is one of the best JRPGs to hit the Xbox 360. The dream stories were very fascinating and well detailed. Give the game more than 4 hours, it's not enough to see what it has to offer
Now it's been a while since I've posted in this thread. What have I been playing lately? A lot of Tales Of Vesperia
Tales Of Vesperia - Xbox 360
My brother bought me this game for Christmas after asking me what I wanted, he gave me the money and I tracked down a mint copy on the forums here. I've been playing it almost daily since. It has to be the best JRPG I have played on the 360 yet.
The characters are amazing, my favourite being Yuri as he is not some dumb kid, suddenly drawn into a adventure, he is very mature. The world is huge with plenty of places to explore and things to do. Combat for me in this game never gets old, I love it! I've sunk around 55 hours into this game and am still going, I don't want it to end.
Xbox Live Arcade Games - Xbox 360
Due to my cousin's 360 dying, she put her family tag + game licences onto my 360 so her kids can play their arcade collection whenever. The plus side is that I get access to the lot So I've been going through them and seeing which ones I like.
There's various other games I've been jumping between but Tales of Vesperia is mainly taking up my time _________________

Well for one thing I found the characters are dull, compared to FF, Eternal Sonata and Mass Effect and the world just didn't immerse me like those other games did.
I found the dream sequences bored me and the cut scenes look aweful and weirdly set out. Even the PS2 Final Fantasy games look better than this with the cut scenes. _________________

Oil Tycoon.
This is simply an amazing game which has so much indepth strategy and tactics that it blows away the competition! I loved the attention to detial and realism within the game where you not only search and rig for oil but organise it as a commodity. Its also never ending!
