It's a bit of irony, really. Being a south African I've seen a lot of countrymen immigrate to Australia because the climates are teh same, plus it's a Commonwealth thing. and for all intensive purposes it seems like the land of milk and honey, providing that you're planning to do the white picket fences thing. And this is becoming a bit too evident with the almost zealous refusal of age certificates for games (let's call it what it is: banning).
Let's see: GTA 3, Vice City, Manhunt, LSL to quote a few recent examples... Carmageddon was censored with green blood and unless I'm mistaken a few of the Mortal Kombat games also didn't make the cut thanks to, apparently, the Aussie authorities not permitting games that carry an R (18+) rating.
Now it might be Half-Life 2? It's a bit old, so I don't know if it's still relevant, but that must suck. How does it feel to be a gamer in a country where mature titles could easily be axed? I don't really know because we seem to let anything in these days - a nice lashback from the Apartheid era's ridiculous amount of censorship.

i dont think half-life 2 is being banned (or i f-cking hope not) but yes it is rather annoying to have games like LSL banned but u just download them anyway (if they're pc.. if its for console its a tad harder) but meh it doesnt make me want to live somewhere else just so i can buy games with teh b00bies.

No carmageddon i ever owned had green blood, and they were all Australian bought. The only green blood i ever saw was when you failed to type in the correct password which you chose on carmaggedon, and the demo version of carmageddon 2. _________________

Hmm, okay, quasi-censored. If I recall correctly, that was left in as a convenience to bypass the censorship situation. The proper version of the game required neither a password nor the later-released blood patch. So SCI found a loop-hole, but the point still stands.

Get out.
I'm also glad we don't (or rarely) get games banned here.. _________________

i don't remember Carmageddon ever being censored... at least not by the OFLC... though i only ever played the PC versions so maybe a console version was altered...
only the first Mortal Kombat was modified, and that was at Nintendo's request (Sega opted for the blood cheat), not the OFLC... i also thought this was world-wide, not just Australia...
i don't think there'd be a problem with HL2 though, i mean, Soldier of Fortune 2 got through being able to carve up people with a knife, and HL is more aliens... but, i know PEGI gave it an R rating though, so who knows?
this could then open up a whole can of worms as far as getting it via Steam is concerned too... _________________

from what i hear, the PEGI guys are a bit more uptight about violence than the OFLC... it's just they have an R18+ rating to go to, whereas the OFLC don't...
what is Doom 3 rated by PEGI out of interest? _________________

Guys, it's total bullshit.
The only game I can recall banned/edited due to VIOLENCE was MK1 and Postal 2. Manhunt could count here, but that was a more a victim of media sensationalism than anything else.
Only games with sex get banned (South Park's take on this on Monday was gold). Simple as that.
Until it's November 16th and EB says "we don't have the game on our release list", I won't believe it's banned.

i'd believe it when (if) the OFLC website says its banned too...
i don't see Valve releasing a censored version either...
but then, i don't think it'll have any problems...
EDIT: btw i found the PEGI website (www.pegi.info) and Doom 3 also got an 18+ rating... so shouldn't be a problem... _________________

Preorder box in the stores has an MA rating. Nothing on the OFLC's website, but there's no chance that it will get RC'd. Just a bunch of stupid folks not checking the facts before posting the story. _________________ Retro Gaming Australia

Let's put it this way; none of the GTA games in my collection are Australian PAL releases.
