I got an email today that was completely unexpected
| Quote: | Hi Joseph
Wow!! To have someone of the presitige of <name withheld> & <name withheld> relay the below information to me conveys praise of the highest order. You should be proud Joseph. Please continue to use <name withheld> & <name withheld> as your mentors as you grow & flourish in this postition.
<name withheld> & myself are really proud of you Joesph.
cheers & ciao |
He was of course refering to this:
| Quote: | Hi <name withheld>
Yesterday <name withheld> and I worked with Joseph for the second time. Thought I'd pass on that he has an excellent knowledge base, and is a very pleasantly mannered, extremely helpful person who is highly respectful to everyone with whom he comes into contact.
ciao
<name withheld> |
It's nice people think of me like that, I rarely get any comments that make me feel respected. Oddly enough, I was telling my mum and a friend how awesome those two were and that I enjoyed working with them. It's just nice to feel appreciated, especially when you've questioned your own ethics and purpose over the last month. I must be doing something right! _________________

Well, this one needs some 'splaining.
Recently we received a fairly caustic letter in the mailbox from our 'annoyed neighbours' about our noise levels of late. It went on to explain, in great detail, why we are 'the most inconsiderate bunch of dickheads' they're ever had the misfortune to coma across, and that nobody wants to hear our 'undergraduate pontifications on things you [we] know nothing about' - and that we're stupid, rude, should be ashamed of ourselves, and should shut the fuck up. Etc.
Like I said, fairly vitriolic... (and, TBH, ticked me off a fair bit - if whomever it was had taken the steps of coming over and asking us to keep it down, the whole nasty business could have been averted long before. Ah well, ifs and buts.)
Now, I'd figured we'd had a couple of pretty loud parties, but nothing too bad. I guess sound travels a lot more than we'd thought in the area, as clearly what they're talking about are the nights where a mate or two come over and we're up all hours drinking, smoking, and talking shite.
So, I found that all rather embarrassing. We really do talk a lot of bullshit, and I'd never want to be keeping people up. I've lived next to noisy places before and it really sucks. so we got together and penned an apology note, then put it in the letterboxes of the surrounding houses, and needless to say have kept a tight reign on the noise levels since.
Over a longer period, through sheer laziness, I've let the grass grow to monstrous heights. Figuring it was well overdue to be cut I hit the front lawn yesterday, and started on the back yard today. We've only got a cheapo push-mower, and it clogs pretty easily, so the going is slow and laborious. After hitting the bugger for about 20 mins this afternoon I hear the doorbell, so my housemate wanders off to answer. He comes back a little later holding a wax-paper package. Turns out it was one of our neighbours, who read the apology note (and apparently hasn't had anything to complain about our noise) and didn't want us to feel like we weren't welcome in the neighbourhood! How sweet is that? Left me grinning from ear to ear, I'll tell you. I'm not sure what kind of cake it is, exactly - I'm guessing carrot and zucchini? Eitherway, it is delicious, and rather welcome after slogging away at the grass for the best part of an hour.
Will have to finally get around to trying out the pumpkin and choc-chip cookies recipe I've got, and give some to the woman next door as way of a thank you.
tl;dr -- Sweet neighbours offering baked goods to make you feel welcome _________________

I was dropping a package off at a post office this afternoon and a young lady had parked next to me as I was pulling up. I went to the post office, came back and she was now standing next to her car with her doors locked and the engine running. Poor girl had locked herself out and was looking a little frazzled as she didn't know where she was when the NRMA was asking her for her location. So I helped her out with my street directory and we started talking. I could see she was calming down as we talked. The NRMA guy came in about 10 minutes, quite a record and he quickly got her door open. She thanked me for helping to calm her down. It was nice to help a fellow person out and get thanked for it.
Just whacking my forehead that I didn't have the nerve to ask for her number as she was a nice girl and we had a decent convo while waiting for the NRMA _________________ RIP Buddha 19/10/1952 - 03/01/2004

Trying to lose a few kgs, went for 4-5 k run like usual.
But this evening was different my 2.5 year old that I need to put to sleep everynight fell asleep at the dinner table. Picked her and chucked her straight into bed (usually take 30mins to an hour).
Thought stuff it gunna go for a bike ride. Went along the coast looked amazing pink sunset, all of sudden Oceans by Pearl Jam came on the shuffle.

Yesterday I decided that my faithful G15 was in need of a good clean. The poor thing is about 3 years old and secondhand, and has only ever been cleaned once in that time (by the previous owner). So, I prized all the keys off of it, gave them all a clean in hot water one by one, then cleaned the keyless keyboard itself. I then let the keys dry and put it all back together.
The keyboard looks a million bucks It looks about 8 times better than it did, and I is a happy panda about it. _________________

If anyone actually remembers, I was unfairly failed at Wetherill Park RTA (the place reported in the news with a 65% fail rate) almost exactly a month ago and then humiliated by the testing officer. Today I returned to Wetherill Park RTA, did my test, drove what I felt was not as well as my first attempt and..
Not only did I pass with full marks, but the testing officer (different guy to last time) told my mum that she could "trust me with her car" since I was "one of the best drivers" he had tested.
So, anyone want a ride?
And no, no smart-ass forming of the word PALGN with the plates, featuring a duck like BurnZ pulled off. I'm lazy, deal with it. _________________

Yesterday, but whatever.
Wandering around the shops at Bondi Junction with Ravenous and Denny, looking at handbags and games and books and such, having lunch, and some beverages, then meeting up with Denny's friend and fellow MW2 buddy Myles, for a bit more wandering.
We then headed off to Kmart and laughed at stupid looking toys for half an hour, then went to buy some diet coke, mentos, and balloons.
We got some awesome novelty character balloons, like Rabbits and Owls with nipples, and the like. Then went to a nearby park to experiment with the volatile substances.
Dani distanced herself, so noone would associate her with the 3 grown men sitting on the grass, one of which was in a pilot's outfit, while they put mentos in a giant white ribbed worm balloon, with a smiley face, then filed it with diet coke and watched it explode.
Had a good lot of lulz. _________________

My neighbor usually has around 4-6 cars parked in various places outside his house. Anyway, this morning I woke up to the sound of a truck outside and it turns out that two of the cars parked on the street were being towed away. I thought it was pretty funny. The owner(s) reactions will be priceless when they find out.

I finally got an Ethernet cord of Ebay that took ages to get here. Which means I can play xbox online from my big new HD TV. After a month of mostly playing single player games I played some MW2 to find I can still kick some butt. I came first in most of my games and even had a game with a full 5 bars where I learned I am a god at sniping. Shame I can't snipe unless I have full bars.
