So I saw this on the weekend with Duckay, and I have to say, if you were thinking about seeing it: DO IT DO IT DO IT.

Fantastic flick. Brilliantly engaging action sequences, with style to spare. You can see Guy Ritchie's usual flair underneath it, but he's sublimated a lot of his style into a more standard delivery. There's imagination in the setups.

And, surprisingly, the characterisation is top notch. Holmes is portrayed as borderline unstable, clearly obsessive in his need to mentally catalogue every little detail he sees. Watson is depicted as every bit the intellectual equal of Holmes -- At one point, after Holmes explains the clues he's spotted, Watson works out the logical conclusion faster than Holmes does; the only difference between the two is that Watson is sane*, if eternally exasperated by his friend. The dynamic between the two is believable and handled well. Rachel McAdams is a titch underused but still delightful as "that one woman" Irene Adler, and Jonathan Strong glowers his way through Lord Blackwood.

Seriously, I loved this film from start to end. It's a riot.

* I'm quoting from memory here, but from the books is a quote which really does justify this approach. "You see, but you do not observe, Watson. Otherwise you could have understood it as readily as I."

Saw it last night and it was damn good. Downey Jr and Law were both great.

i thought the movie was pretty meh.. i'm sure all the deductions sherlock made made sense somehow, but it felt like he just mumbled them incoherantly... reminded me of the tv show House (..ROADHOUSE)

it wasn't bad, not regretting seeing it, and will probably buy the dvd just to watch it again carefully so i can go "AHA! that doesn't make sense! plothole!"

Given that House is very, very loosely derived from Sherlock Holmes, this isn't surprising.

(Oh boy am I going to feel dumb if you knew that and were making a joke.)

Oh, it absolutely doesn't make sense. It has the appearance of a mystery, but in all honesty it cheats you out of any context for the many, many clues that you'd possibly require in order to figure it out.

It is, in this respect, HIGHLY true to the original stories. Doyle was awful that way.

I ended up seeing this in the off chance the other day and I have to say that you were all right in that the movie was pretty good and worth the money.

Everything look like it wrap itself us but i might need to get it out on DVD to make sure
