Californication season 1
Half way through. So great. Hank is probably the most lovable douche I've encountered in a while.

Finished the second season of Californication. Overall, I didn't think it was as good as the first, but it was still quite entertaining.

Three episodes left to go with Sons of Anarchy. Those mushroom clouds I mentioned before? Those bombs have well and truly started to fall... Katey Sagal is still nailing it, especially in that great scene at the end of the episode. Shit is on now.
On a random note, this show has some of the strangest episode titles. Albification, Falx Cerebri, Na Triobloidi, what the fuck does any of that even mean? _________________

They're not on TV, but I just finished Dexter Season 1-3 and it was so so enjoyable. Also halfway through Sopranos Season 3, which is just an incredibly good show. _________________

Albification: well Albus is Latin for white, and "-fication" means "to make", so i guessed "To make white", which fits with the overall theme of the series, however i've no idea if i'm correct.
Falx Cerebri: is a part of the brain. it's the cartilage that separates the 2 hemispheres.
Na Triobloidi: is Gaelic for "The Trouble" (i had to look this one up myself.)
some of the other titles i had to look up:
Potlatch: is a Native American (specifically, tribes on the Pacific side of the US) festival or holiday. it's almost analogous to Thanksgiving or Christmas, but is a big feast/jamboree held between tribes as a way of spreading wealth. was banned for an incredibly long time by white america. _________________

Mad Men season 1
Just finished the fourth episode. It's interesting because while it has a slow feel to it, the show is quite fascinating and very watchable. Visually, it's stunning.
Everyone has beautiful eyes. Shiny, alive eyes which is interesting because if you watch 1960's shows like Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie they have the same shiny eyes, particularly Sam and Jeannie. TBH, and not to come across as too much of a weirdo, I still watch both shows on Go because I am infatuated with their eyes.
Ahem...anyhoo...how 'bout them...

It may come as no surprise to people who have read the recent purchases thread, but I've been watching Seinfeld. The funny thing is, is that I've watched the entire 7 seasons of Curb your Enthusiasm before waching Seinfeld, so to me it's given me a better look on the show (not sure why).
Enjoying the show of course, I love the thing of Kramer's dog appearing in the pilot but never mentioned or heard from again after that. The DVDs are extremely good, one of the best TV shows DVDs I own, packed with heaps of special features (my favourite being the inside looks, interviews with the cast in this present day about the past episodes, I love stuff like that). Currently halfway through Season 3, this is what I'm doing all holidays. So glad I bought it
Kinda getting through Dexter Season 3, but it's kinda ho-hum. Not doing anything for me, Dexter is now killing less people, and now just constantly repeating this philosophical crap or repeating what we already know/heard. I like this lawyer character, kinda hoping he lives (doubt it though )
Mad Men Season 2 Episode 1 was a huge yawn fest, turned me off the series, which is sad because I liked season 1.
Also watching repeats of South Park (classic stuff) and Whose Line is it Anyway? (US), which is my favourite show of all time. Every episode can be rewatched and all of them funny. Shame only Season 1 DVD has been released, and decided none further. It totally got shafted on DVD, just like the Larry Sanders show. _________________

Picked up Band of Brothers during the Christmas sales, after catching bits and pieces from 7's recent broadcast.

finally unwrapped the boxsets for battlestar galactica I bought maybe 2 years ago.
wrapped up season 2. 7/10
Got through disc 1 of season 3. Wow. Disc 1 = off the charts in terms of how awesome it was. 11/10. Just fantastic tv and it boggles my mind that it took me this long to get to it. _________________

Just finished watching Rove '99 on DVD for the second time (rented it last year). Some really funny stuff, mainly from Peter Helliar and Dave Callan. Rove is just fine I guess and Corinne Grant sucks.
Shame the DVD is just a complation of 10 episodes worth in 2 hours, would've been kinda cool to see all 10 eps. Channel 9 were complete idiots to cancel this, look what they replaced it with, Starsearch? _________________

Rove '99 is some of the greatest television ever. "Idiot Boxing" is fantastic and Rove seriously needs to bring it back (naturally Callan has to do it, no other voice would do the segment justice).
<Excerpt that won't be anywhere near as funny without actually seeing it>
"You should fold the paper so you're not carrying so much weight."
*Rove folds paper*
"That's so much lighter now!"

As I'm on holidays I've been watching heaps of TV.
Finished season 1 of Nip/Tuck - Really enjoying it, however the character development seems unrealistic at times. Like the writers just make up when certain characters will like/hate each other based on nothing at all. Still a great show if not just for the crazy sex and plastic surgery.
Half way through Season 2 of Californication - Pretty good show, but lacking in many areas that I can't put my finger on. Good enough for me to keep watching though.
On the last disc of season 1 of 30 rock - Not sure what to think of this one. Alec Baldwin nails it, but at times the humor seems very predictable and like it belongs on two and a half men. There are some very genuinely funny bits, but I was let down from what others had said about it. It's very hit or miss and there have been way to many jokes that have been out right stolen or slightly modified from Arrested Development.
Finished season 1+2+xmas special of Extras - Brilliant. While it doesn't even come close to topping The Office, it's a very different show and a great one. I enjoyed season 2 far more than season 1 and still have the "Are you 'aaving a laugh? Is he 'aving a laugh?" catch phrase stuck in my head! _________________

The Wire on DVD. Man, this is good stuff. It's probably the most humanistic cop show I've ever seen. A lot of shows claim they reject good and evil labels, but they tend to do it by making the crims horrible, and then bringing the cops down to their level. This one is much more nuanced. Nobody is without humanity. Even the ringleader of a drug cartel, the target for the police's investigation, is a sympathetic character, if hardly a 'good person'.
Very, very highly recommended.

Just finished Breaking Bad season 1. Loved it. The scene where Walt and Krazy 8 are talking and the subsequent scene was one of my favourite scenes from the show.

Just finished re-watching Californication season 2. It would have been better without the Runkle/Daisy annoyance, but still entertaining all the same

Cruised through season 1 and 2 of the InBetweeners.
Had some really funny moments, great set of characters and very easy to watch multiple episodes back to back.
I think its starting up on TV soon so give it a shot if you havent already seen it. _________________ Kill each other nicely please.

Whose Line is it Anyway? Season 1. Oh my, it's so different to how the show was after the show was in Season 2-Season 8 (I think that was the last season?) Changes are what Drew says (he's alot more organised in Season 1), Wayne is a guest (only appearing in about 75% of Season 1, when afterwards he's a main person) and the types of games (No Scenes from a hat, Shorter games). Some things are similar, such as the teasing of Drew, teasing Colin about being bold and Ryan for being tall (which recur throughout the entire series).
I just wish all the shows were put on DVD Stupid poor sales preventing it. Maybe if the DVD distributors didn't dick around the sale of the first one (Creating a Volume 1 Season 1 deal, with Censored and Uncensored, then releasing Volume 2 with only Uncensored, then coming out in Australia as an entire Season 1). _________________

Still watching The Wire.
Is it just me, or is Omar Little the biggest badass in television history? Damn.
| Spoiler wrote: | I just saw him shoot up two armed drug dealers, killing one and injuring the second. As the injured one desperately tries to find the shooter, he hears Omar's trademark whistle; "The Farmer in the Dell". Then he speaks:
"You come at the King, you best not miss."
At that point? He just became the biggest badass I've ever seen on television. He's awesome. |
