| Quote: | EA ANNOUNCES DEAD SPACE 2
Sequel to Award-Winning Horror Game Delivers Intense, Personal Saga that Sends Chills through Deep Space
Guildford, UK – December 7, 2009 – Visceral Games, an Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) studio announced today that the award-winning Dead Space™ franchise will continue to frighten gamers with its stunning sequel, Dead Space 2. Isaac Clarke returns for another heart-pounding adventure, taking the fight to the Necromorphs in this thrilling action-horror experience. New tools to gruesomely slice and dismember the Necromorphs complement Isaac’s signature plasma cutter, empowering him as he meets new characters, explores epic zero-G environments, and fights against a relentless Necromorph onslaught. Survival isn’t the only thing on Isaac’s mind in Dead Space 2 – this time, he calls the shots.
“Like so many gamers worldwide, we love the Dead Space franchise and are very excited to announce a new game in the series,” said Nick Earl, Senior VP and Group General Manager at EA. “Visceral Games is quickly becoming known for delivering high-quality, action-packed games. Dead Space 2 is on target to deliver a jaw-dropping experience gamers won’t soon forget.”
“We’re thrilled to jump back into the series, making the next chapter in Isaac’s journey,” added Steve Papoutsis, Executive Producer of Dead Space 2. “The infection continues to spread throughout space and our hero Isaac Clarke is the only person able to contain it. There are still loads of Necromorphs that need killing. In Dead Space 2, not everything is exactly as it seems. Expect plot twists that will surprise you and a huge cast of twisted, disgusting monsters that are sure to scare the daylights out of you.”
Originally launched in 2008, Dead Space quickly became one of EA’s top rated wholly-owned intellectual properties. With close to 100 industry awards and an average critic score of 89*, Dead Space became a hit with horror and videogame fans worldwide. In 2009, EA launched Dead Space Extraction for the Wii™, a prequel to the original Dead Space that expanded the fiction and brought the franchise to a new audience.
Dead Space 2 is being developed for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system and on PC. This product has not yet rated by PEGI. Dead Space scared the crap out of me.
Easily the best sound design ever implemented in a videogame.
I'm looking forward to playing through the sequel with the lights on. _________________

I thought this was old? Well, it's also most likely getting multiplayer as well.

I still need to get around to buying both Dead Space games. It's one of those games that slips my mind whenever I'm thinking of a game to buy.
Also, why is it that all press release quotes are terribly corny?

It couldn't possibly be worse than RE5 Deathmatch, and that happened. _________________

I honestly dont know why developers think that adding multiplayer automatically makes it a winner, some games are best left to a single player campaign..... _________________

Hopefully they have just handed it off to another team and the original are working on the sequel. That interview was great. Sounds like System Shock 2 type of settings.
CANNOT wait for this. Hopefully has a lot more to do with the church and the origin of the marker. _________________ Shin J Leon.

I can see the reason for it. Lots of people whine about no multiplayer. Just read some reviews of single player games. They often list it as a negative...a flaw...of a game if it doesn't include. It's a marketing feature.
Myself being an antisocial single player gamer, I'm all for abolishing multiplayer in every game if it means a better single player experience

The only time I play it is when my little nephew comes down to visit, which is once a year for a week. And even then I can't be arsed playing for long. Competitiveness just doesn't run through my bones. I guess it's one of the reasons I'm not more interested in achievements/trophies because some of them are only obtainable through multiplayer.

Same here Im still yet to play Modern Warfare's multiplayer... don't really have a plan to start either.. |
Modern Warfare is a unique one, in that you are missing out on a good 50% of the game by skipping the multiplayer... _________________

The reason they will include mulitplayer is so that people hold onto their copies of the game instead of selling them.
| Quote: | Visceral Games boss Glen Schofield has suggested that used-game sales doubled the amount of people who played Dead Space.
"We also did studies on sort of how many unique users there were on the PSN network and Xbox Live and realised, you know what, there's over three million people that have played Dead Space,"
...
"Maybe we've only sold one and a half million or whatever the number is, but there's something there because that means that, okay, there were a lot of used sales." |
I can guarantee that their strategy will be to tap into that missed market who were able to snap up pre-owned copies of the first game rather than getting brand new ones. _________________

And no doubt adding mulitplayer downloadable content, nice little cash cow for the company and as you said to keep people holding onto their copies for longer..... _________________

I wonder if Extraction will be available to buy on the PSN.
I'm not really keen on getting the PS3 version for the main game but would like to get extraction from PSN (and move). _________________ Shin J Leon.

Certainly a nice pre-order bonus on the PS3. It is the more attractive version to get. _________________ Shin J Leon.
