I wish to know where to get a 120GB HDD since my 60GB is nearly full :S (only with 4 game installs and many XBL demos/games) _________________ "Work hard now, play even harder later"

Beware if you buy one overseas, the hardware is fine but the transfer software is region locked.
Found this out the hard way a year or 2 back, managed to score a local copy of the software from a forumer though. _________________ XBL/PSN/Steam: BenC82

Yes they will work on your aus console. As for a transfer kit yes you'll have to try to buy or borrow one off someone to transfer your data across.
Some JB stores still might have stock of the 120gb hdds.
The 250gb HDD as featured in the MW2 bundle will not be released as a seperate item, besides considering how much MS charged for a 120gb HDD if they released a 250gb HDD seperately it would be $300+ _________________ RIP Buddha 19/10/1952 - 03/01/2004

I thought you may like to know that I have a MW2 Elite, and as an experiment I took the 250GB HD from that and plugged it into a standard edition 360, and it is saying 193 GB free (some games are already installed), when I go into the Dashboard's memory tab.
So that means it is possible for Microsoft to release a 250GB hard drive expansion for non-MW2 Elite console owners.
That said, I may be willing to part with my official 250GB for the right price and I will just buy an unofficial one to use.

Of course it'd work, M$ wouldn't make a special 360 just for the 250Gb HDD. I made my own 250Gb HDD and it works brilliantly. Just haven't gotten around to transferring the data over to it yet.
I don't think you should sell the HDD, the unofficial one would just use a standard grey case and would look dorky connected to the MW2 console.
Why M$ aren't releasing the 250Gb drive separately is beyond me, doesn't make much sense. What do people do when they run out of space on their 60Gb HDD's, buy a new console? Typical M$ reasoning.

There are unofficial black ones if you know where to look. For under $100 too. The MW2 Elite has really took a big bite out of my gaming budget which is why I have sold off the included MW2 game and one controller, and am now considering selling the official hard drive.

Hi, just wondering, did u manage to install a custom HD to ur previously harddiscless 360 (eg. Arcade console), or did u add it to a console that previously had the official (but much smaller capacity) HD already? (eg. Elite)
I've been thinking of getting a HD for my Arcade, and did some research, and found that custom HDs can only be installed on a system for which u need to have the official HD already, so either a console that already has an official HD, or a console that later had a 2nd hand official HD added to it.
Is that correct?
Thanks very much

You can't buy the official 120Gb anymore, only the 60Gb. For many people, that isn't enough space, your only other option is to buy an Elite, or MW2 360 (at the moment). I already have a 120Gb HDD, with roughly 25Gb free. I made the 250Gb because I got the parts cheaply and wanted 'something to do'

No that is not correct. I think you might've gotten your information mixed up a bit.
The HDD's will work on any 360, whether it's an Elite, Pro or Arcade. The Arcade is exactly the same as a Pro except it comes without a HDD and the DVD tray is white, not chrome. It also won't matter whether it's an official M$ HDD or a hacked Western Digital HDD. As far as the 360 is concerned, it IS a genuine M$ HDD.

So as long as I buy the proper WD HDD and hack it with the appropriate downloaded firmware with my PC, then I can add that hacked HDD to my currently HD-less Arcade console without having to buy a 2nd hand official M$ HDD or any other additional parts first?
I initially thought u need to first have a official M$ HDD, coz u need some physical parts or some firmware off of it, in order to attach a hacked higher capacity HDD.
I'm glad I'm wrong, coz it means I can just buy the appropriate WD hdd then!! (around $70 i think)

Exactly. Everything you need is available on the net to make your own 250Gb HDD, you just have to know where to look.
I went with the WD2500BEVT drive, worked perfectly. You'll just have to buy a case for it, which can be gotten pretty cheaply off eBay.

If you call Microsoft Australia, they will send out a Transfer Kit free of charge. I got my 120GB from Terrestrial_Hominid and used the kit he lent me but ordered one just in case.
I am quite happy to lend you my kit if you ever need it. Otherwise, just call MS while you're searching as it takes about a week or so to arrive.

so does that mean if i decide to get a 60gb, i could simply call MS Australia n get the transfer kit? does the transfer kit come with both the transfer disc n the cable?

Yep, it sure does. The kit includes the transfer disc and cable, yeah.
I would seriously put in an EOI in the Game Exchange for a 120GB. It's so worth it. Why settle for a 60GB when you could get one double the size?

Unofficial 120GB or 250GB are less than $100.

Then MS starts banning those and you're out $100 _________________ RIP Buddha 19/10/1952 - 03/01/2004

You are out $100 straight away if you do buy official though. The poster above already choked at the $199 price tag.
Right now I have an official 250GB from the MW2 Elite and 2 x unofficial 120GB and haven't had a problem with any of them.
If they do ban unofficial hard drives, sure they will protect their sales profit on official hard drives, but how many of them would they really sell?
That versus profit on sales from DLC and Games on Demand.
So if they banned unofficial hard drives they would be hurting not just the consumer but also companies who are selling stuff on the Live marketplace.
I think M$ marketing department are smart enough to know that.
Also I have bought two 512MB memory cards from ebay HK. They look like genuine product and work with no problems.
But my guess is they are fakes considering the price I paid for them: $20 cheaper than official products sold here. Unless they are stolen or fake or there is simply just a high markup with goods sold in Australia, I can't see how they can supply it at that price.
But then again, since when does a 512MB SD card cost $50? _________________

Quite simply all of them. With no competition theoretically allowed through Microsoft's fear tactics of having your Live account potentially banned as a 'consequence' of using third party memory, I imagine the majority of 360 owners who want to keep playing online and earn more Gamerscore will have no alternative but to fork out for official memory devices which are sold at a blatantly marked up price. If the tables were turned and Microsoft were doing poorly in the market, I doubt you would see this sort of arrogance and intimidation on display.
If; of course, the rumours are true that is. I personally prefer original parts due to warranty. Atleast your money is covered should something go wrong. Yes, you are saving on a third party device, but will your Chinese supplier swap out your product if it fails on you?
