/aaaccck! The PS3 itself is fine. I can play my PSN games just fine and my machine is not YLOD. I just popped in uncharted and while the game showed up, it won't run (problem loading the game).
suggestions? Its a US console - that I bought at launch (USA) and I might have to get it looked at by a non-sony technician. I think the bluray laser is ****ed. |

Someone on gaf linked to the above. Anyone know where i can get one in australia? I'm gonna try JB+DSE tomorrow first thing. :/ Suggestions if you'd had similar experience would be good.
so... today/yesterday, I was watching a bluray and it froze, then I watched another, and that froze... and now I just put in a game and it did the same problem:
a) if disc shows up, game/bluray won't boot
b) disc also sometimes won't show up _________________

Sorry to hear.
Don't bother trying to clean the BD lens. It is simply failing
Mine is doing the same thing. Tekken was playing at like 10 frames a second the other day and MW2 took 5 minutes to boot to the main menu. Although it has been perfect today. Not one problem.
I suggest doing what I'm doing and buying a slim. I just put a PlayTV 250GB bundle with 2 games on layby at EB for $599 all up. _________________

I'm gonna try the cleaning thing. I left it alone a bit and its back to life again. Might just be a dust + lense issue. I just moved and the new place, well, seems to be dustier
Its $30ish for the lense cleaner vs $500+ for the ps3.
* also gonna vaccum the mofo.
* also there's a bigw bravia (32" inch tv)+ps3 for $1200. Its not a bad deal. I might get that and the bravia goes into my room _________________

Well it all started when I watched die hard 4 bluray but before that absolutely no problems. The console is a USA launch bc enabled ps3 and well I don't think I can go to Sony with an American console
hopefully the cleaner disc which I will find today somewhere will fix it. Thanks for the quantronics link I'll try there for both the cleaner and repairs should I need it done _________________

I don't think I'd care tbh. I'd just buy a slim. Sure I think the launch model is the nicest looking of all the models released, but the PS2 playback just is not as important as I once thought. I mean, I have a PS2... upscaling doesn't make it look much/any better... the aspect ratio is a bit off, many games dont work or have bugs.................so who cares? _________________

Keeping ps3 vertical can cause drive problems. All the people who had drive problem that i know off kept ps3 vertical position. Always play games n remove disc in horizontal. Vertical is no no for PS3
