Zelda Spirit Tracks!
I'unno, as far as Zelda games go, it's pretty solid stuff, if a bit recycled.
Bow and Boomerang puzzles are the same as they were before, but having a Guard as a companion and the Sand Wand... thing made good in mixing things up.
I liked the Boat in Phantom Hourglass, but this Train system loses appeal very quickly.
As far as boss fights go, it wasn't very epic. I mean, he was still big and tough and all, but when you start thinking that the boss is hard because he's a little cheap, rather than just because he's actually challenging, it's a bit of a worry.
Still, solid Zelda game. _________________

Just finished Uncharted 2, epic game I must admit, a big improvement on the previous one. Still got 1 flaw, too much wall climbing, jumping etc like a monkey.

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, for the third time. Silent Hill fans will be happy to know the reoccurring 'joke ending' this time around is fantastic.
Though nothing will top SH2's dog ending. _________________

Yippie whippie!
I finished Scribblenauts today!
I took a while to finish it because I was only playing it when I went to see my family or while waiting for mum when I take her to her appointments.
As frustrating as the controls, camera movement and physics are, the game is still hella fun.
My 2 favorite levels were Back To The Future & Bioshock referenced levels.
I didn't bother finishing every level 3 times to get a yellower star at the level select. I did do every level 3 times in world 1 just to see if I could do it and after I did, I didn't see any real point.
Now I can go back to Professor Layton & The Diabolical Box since I stopped playing that because I was enjoying Scribblenauts too much. _________________

Braid, i know, i'm late to the party. It only this past week hit the Pal PSN store though.
Its quite familliar, and different at the same time. And i feel a bit stupid for not getting some of the puzzels, There not all that difficult, i just wasn't looking at them from the right angle.
Beautiful game too, nice scenery. _________________

Dragon Age (PC)
How can I even begin to discuss a game that has reinvigorated my faith in not only PC gaming, but good old fashion DnD style RPGs. The game is truly epic, the sheer amount of choices/quest paths, play styles and other facets to tingle ones interest means that there are many reasons to roll a new character once your first play through is finished; which is exactly what both my brother and I have done. The game is no short walk in the park, and depending on your play style and if you decide to chase down side quests, the game can take upwards to 80 hours.
Presentation wise, the game is a finely polished gem, I had not personally encountered any bugs but that may be because my game was constantly up to date with the latest version. All characters are voiced, superbly so may I add, the only problem I had with this is that there are no on-screen text subtitles for dialogue outside set interaction points (for example, conversations during 'adventuring'). I also thought it was quite hilarious how my character would insist on keeping his helmet on during more intimate moments with another character (and I'm not talking about *those* type of helmets either!).
Graphically speak, the game is very nice, some settings are nicer than others but generally everything is above board; perhaps this is due to the development time taken, some zones are newer than others. Character models and animations are well captured and I never got tired of seeing my character jump up an Ogre and stab it in the middle of its eyes. For those who tire of seeing the same character models, there are mods out there to spice things up a bit as well.
Sound is as you expect from these types of games, nothing particular to fault here. I would have liked some more variation in music however, especially considering how long the game is, after a while you tune out the melodies.
Although it did not trouble me too much, I felt the top down view was too zoomed in for my liking and the over the shoulder view did not offer enough tactical options. As a result, I often swapped between the two, trying to find that perfect balance but never doing so. It would've been nice if the top down wasn't so limited and allowed the player to fine tune the zoom and angle; simple things like that really stick out like a sore thumb.
I also found that depending on your character makeup, there may not be enough items of suitable nature. I found that there were heaps of bows, long swords and daggers, but not enough variety in two handed weapons, blunt weapons and the sort. Likewise with armour. Unlike DnD with its dizzying myriad of weapon and armour matchup options, I felt Dragon Age pigeon holes characters into their predefined classes; what about a good sword for a mage, or a giant axe for a two handed warrior? Maybe DnD spoilt me in this regard with its assortment of different types of daggers, swords, hammers, bows, etc. This also flows onto character classes, I feel that there are far less options of class customization when compared to DnD, but that said, this isn't DnD so maybe I shouldn't be comparing them. I do hope that Dragon Age 2 offers a bit more depth though.
Ultimately, this game is nothing short of breath taking and I eagerly await my next play through and of course, Dragon Age 2. For me, this dethrones Uncharted 2 as my Game of the Year.

Lost Odyssey
Well it took me two attempts and almost two years, but I finally finished it. I have mixed feelings about the game, but they're mostly good.
The battles, while they are a bit old-school, I feel they're perfected with this game. The addition of the ring attacks that add damage when timed correctly, the strategies you constantly have to work on, the spells and the enemies... it all culminated in an experience that is both familiar and yet perfectly refined.
The skill system is pretty cool too. It's an interesting diversion from the rest of the game getting your immortals to learn new skills through accessories and skill linking with mortals. Finding seed slots so you can have more skills 'equipped' is always a welcome bonus too.
If Lost Odyssey was going to win any awards though, it'd probably be for sound production. Well, that and Ming would probably get the game a "veiniest boobs" award. But the voice acting in particular is excellent and matched with the expressive facial animations, adds a lot of depth to the characters and the story.
In general though, production levels are very high with Lost Odyssey.
I liked all of the characters in the game. I know a lot of people didn't like Jansen, but he was probably my favourite character. He cracked me up and brought a smile to my face many a time. The kids, while I'm aware they weren't too popular with people who've played this, I felt they really added a lot of emotion to the story and events. Kaim was a bit of a closet emo I thought and I wouldn't be surprised if he had scars on his wrists. He is undeniably cool though and you feel a bit sorry for the guy after a few 1000yrs of dreams episodes.
There was only one real negative with this game in my mind, the save system. Half the reason it took me so long to finish it was the amount of times I threw the game back on the shelf out of frustration with the save system. At the start of an area, you get a (manual) save point, but sometimes I'd take hours getting through a dungeon, building levels and working hard to get my immortals to learn new skills etc, just to get to a boss where I would die. You get a screen that says "continue?" and for a second you get this relieved "oh cool it'll put me at the start of the boss fight" thing, until you realise no, continue means load that save from hours ago.
Truly frustrating. It happened near the end for me yesterday too, except I didn't die, I just didn't use a guide/predict what was coming up and had a boss that could only be killed with ailments (poison etc) and had a party formation that didn't happen to have anyone that could cast ailments.
The 1000yrs of dreams stories were interesting to start with, but, probably because I took so long to finish the game, I ended up skipping the majority of them. I just wanted to finish the damn thing.
Overall though, niggles aside, I really did enjoy the good parts of Lost Odyssey.
8.5

I just beat Zelda: Spirit Tracks for the DS
It started off great, but then some of the dungeons got really, really frustrating.
Sidequests were great though, it reminded me of Majora's Mask.
7/10
Edit: No one seems to have beat any other games since me, so I don't want to double post. But as of now (23rd December) I just beat: Grand Theft Auto IV.
It was the first game I've played in the series and definately worth the $37 I paid considering it lasted me over 40 hours! It's been a long time since I played a game this long. It was fun and some of the missions were amazing. The ending was just wow. 9/10!
Now I just gotta wait until Xmas and I can play some new games. _________________

^^ The main thing that annoyed me with Lost Odyssey is how painfully slow the battles were due to each side taking turns instead of a nice ATB system.
----
I just burned through Mass Effect over the last 2 days, just did the bare bones game, and clocked it at just over 8 hours, not bad really!
I got really pissed when I died 1.5 hours into the Noveria mission and had to restart from the beginning because the auto save feature fails, but I sucked it up and went straight back into it and clocked it just then.
Now I'm ready for Mass Effect 2 yay! Can't wait... Although this is my 5th play through of Mass Effect, and I am unfortunetly getting very tired with it, i don't think ill be playing the first title again for a long time.
And hopefully I have Secret of Mana finished by tomorrow night so I'm all ready to play whatever game I get for xmas without any baggage from games Im half way through. _________________ http://bencadphotography.com/

Glad you put the effort in to finish it. Such a great game, but to my memory I hated how the last boss had "????" health and didn't even require any proper strategy.
And hahha at Ming's veiny cleavage.

Congrats on finishing a Call of Duty game on veteran. I usually make it about two thirds of the way in and then give up as the difficulty really starts to rise.
I'm currently on my second playthrough of Modern Warfare 2. My first was on regular and now I'm absolutely loving it on hardened. Its challenging but it feels fair.

Thanks dude. Yeah this one was by far the easiest. There was the odd mission which made me rage (hard) until I realised that I could just run through the enemy without taking them out to get to the next checkpoint. Only works in MW2 though, because in the other CoD's, the enemies keep spawning

Got around to finishing Assassin's Creed 2 tonight, considering the improvements they made on the original I look forward to seeing what they do in the third game. I liked the beard on Ezio too, it made him look cool. Kudos to his mother as well for sticking to something and not giving up because it's hard. _________________

Dragon age origins...man i picked a bad group for the last boss lol.
I'm fucking stuck with a mage healer (me a hardcore mage) my trusty hound and a rogue assassin.
Last boss is a fucking bitch.
People that played this game know my frustration im sure lol. _________________

The battle system is very traditional as far as jrpg's go. It is the traditional battle system perfected.

yeah, I'll definitely be playing whatever they make next.
The last boss was fittingly epic I thought, but yeah, it was 20% strategy and 80% cinematic drama to emphasise the bonds that had been created within the group and all that.

I finished Killzone 2 on Elite difficulty! Bloody damn hard, especially the 2nd checkpoint just before you fight Radec where you're on the balcony with wave after wave of enemies rushing you (goddamn shock troopers). The actual fight with Radec was a breeze using a flamethrower, as then you can see where he is when he goes invisible (follow the ball of flame ).
I have to say, the game is so much more enjoyable on the hardest setting, as it makes every single battle that much more intense, even against just 1 or 2 Higs. It's kinda annoying how many bullets the Helghast can absorb in comparison to you, but it makes it so much more rewarding. One thing that's been a pain on Elite difficulty is Sev's height. I don't know why, but Sev only comes up to NPC's shoulders (even though he's the same height in cutscenes), and when you crouch, you only lower by a few centimetres. Too short when standing, too tall when crouching. It's especially noticable in the cover system, which is a shame, because it's a well implemented cover system, but on Elite it's just too risky to crouch behind cover when your head still sticks up over it. Case in point, the 'bucket' ride. I ended up playing the entire campaign without using cover. It was noticable on lower difficulties, but only really became a nuisance on Elite.
Anyway, other than that slight annoyance, it's still an above average and extremely polished FPS. It's just a shame the actual game isn't quite what we were promised. The FPS genre has evolved very little in the past 10 years in my opinion, and for one to truly stand out, I think it needs to stand out in 3 key areas, Story, Atmosphere, and memorable setpieces.
Unfortunately, Killzone 2 only really delivers in creating a compelling atmosphere, where you really feel like you don't belong on this planet. I still think the Helghast are the coolest and intimidating enemies in gaming. The story, while not terrible, is far from the best example in the genre. While it's very cinematic (the seamless transition between cutscenes and gameplay is outstanding), the unnecessary curse-laden dialogue brings it down. Lastly, it just doesn't have enough memorable setpieces. For a game this linear, it really needs big moments in every mission, and while the 1st level was incredible in that regard, there was very little exciting gameplay in the vein of Call of Duty. It particularly dragged on in the middle, especially in Tharsis Refinery (though I do love the electricity gun).
In saying that, it's still a damn good game, and much better on a harder difficulty. It's more than a pretty face, and the audio really stands out too with an amazing soundtrack. Though did anyone else have some issues every now and then where some lines of dialogue would cut out a fraction too early, or a word in the middle would be repeated?
I'm definitely looking forward to see what's next for Guerrila Games though (Killzone 3 no doubt). Hopefully with less time necessary to spend on the graphics engine, they can really cook up an even better and more memorable campaign. I might get back into the multiplayer now, this is where the game shines, they did a great job with the online. _________________
