The rumours are definitely true.
One of the largest independent game developers in the world, and the largest Australian game developer, has indeed downsized.
Myself included.
It's not particularly in my interests to do anything but confirm what you already know at the moment. As such, I'll let all you rumour mongers and analysts work out what this means.
Still, I've got seven years experience and millions-selling titles to my name. I'm in a reasonably good position at the moment. I've got a few months to get my act together, so we'll see where I go from here.
EDIT: There's the official statement. _________________

That sucks Gooberman i hope the rumours aren't true there is too much talent everywhere these days...
I'm a fan of you guys....even when they come into my shop and shuffle the games on the walls so their titles stand out cheeky
I always let the customer know it's a brissie made game everytime i sell one of your titles and they are always amazed.
Thank you and all your collegues past and present for all the greatness

That's unfortunate man. It's always disheartening to see talented people lose their jobs, especially when it's that close to home.
Good luck with finding your next job. With that kind of experience under your belt, I'm sure you'll be back on your feet in no time. _________________

I thought this post was about icecream, then I read this. So disappointed.
That really sucks, Gooberman. Good luck finding a new job. Maybe you should go independent, seems like the in thing at the moment.

Thats a real shame mate, but I wouldnt be too worried if you've got experience with well-known titles, plenty and plenty of developers or other industries that would be very interested in ya.
Hope all goes well. _________________

as sad as it is, i'm not overly surprised given how bad things are in Melbourne at the moment (3 friends, 3 different companies, all lost their jobs)
But I'm not worried, you'll bounce back.

Sorry to hear dudeman. Luckily you have so much experience, as I'm sure you'll find work elsewhere.
Any idea what percentage of their staff were let go? _________________

Sorry to hear that GooberMan.. damn it has been a hard year for us folks in the software industry. And all this talk about bouncing back from the recession seems like a load, to me anyway. My suggestion, relax, enjoy the Christmas break, and treat it like a fresh start - an opportunity. We're all here for you.

Yes.
Can I say it if the official statement didn't say it?
...probably not.
Frustrating, I know. The price of a gaming job always includes a bunch of NDAs.
Still, I'm viewing it as a blessing in disguise at the moment. There's a million different directions I could go from here. In fact, you all will be hearing about something I have planned within the next couple of days. _________________

I knew I missed a question earlier.
Recently, I've been doing engine work. Mostly stuff that the end user doesn't see, lots of architectural stuff that makes life easier for everyone. Before engine though, my favourite trick that I developed was getting volumetric fog on to a PS2 for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. _________________
