I second that -
I was taking breaks every half an hour 'cuz it was so exhilerating...
I also have not died so many times in my life on multiplayer - I should rename my gamer tag to dead man shooting ...

I don't get it. Most peeps are loving this game yet I found it completely un-engaging - what I played of it, that is, before returning it to EB. (Just past where you escape the favela by helicopter.) I loved COD4, but, in a post Uncharted 2 world, I think I've chaaaanged man.

I beat it on hardened and man that sp game is intense. Multiplayer is the same as always, pretty fun new perks n stuff.
Kinda strange how people are strongly disliking this game. Its like they are trying to find flaws that aren't really there. Obviously dedicated servers on pc are a big issue and I agree they should be in there.
But other than that its a really good game, second only to uncharted 2 in cinematic gameplay. _________________

Honestly this is bad for the gaming industry as a whole if one game can sell so many copies yet many other good games don't even reach the million mark.
It shows the gaming industry has a long way to go before it grows up since hype and marketing can help a game sell so many copies than other more deserving titles. Many other publishers are losing money despite making great games too and yet Activision are racking in so much money due to hype.
There are many better games than MW2 like Shadow of The Colossus, Half Life, Sands of Time, Uncharted 2, MGS4, Bioshock, etc that deserve these kind of sales too but never got them.

^ I suppose you have a point there, but it really comes back to cod being a successful formula that activision KNOWS is going to sell. So much so that compared to games like gta 4, it had basically next to nothing in terms of advertisement. All the hype was done between gamers themselves. That in itself I thought was pretty amazing.
In this kind of economy, gamers can't be expected to fork out $100 a pop, for say the 3-5 big name games out there. Eg Uncharted 2, call of duty mw2, and soon to be release assasins creed 2 etc. Its a no brainer that gamers are going to gun for the game that not only ALL their friends are going to be online playing, but also a game they KNOW is going to be a safe bet. Not to mention its a game in a franchise that holds its retail and resell value crazily well. Unlike inFAMOUS, which got hyped the **** out of, but now can be purchased for about $40. _________________

@genius
MW2 being mainstream has alot to do with it. I have friends who only buy a game a year and mw2 is that game. Look at the nintendo wii and how well wii fit and mario cart sells. It's not how good a game is, its how much broad appeal it has.
The same can be said for movies. Look at District 9 compared to Harry Potter. Harry Potter is going to win because it has more mainstream appeal. Does that mean the film industry hasn't matured? _________________

Im only going to comment on this once, the more comments you make, the more hype you create and it just snowballs from there. Funny how media works... you vent your spleen and the product you are trying to condemn ends up doing better... its like no one is actually listening... the more attention, the more controversial something gets... the more curious people are and want to try it out and make up their own mind. You could tell everyone not to look in the cupboard there's a big black monster... guess what they'll probably take a peek anyway.
I'm not a big fan of activision, they pretty much killed off every franchise there is and milk it for all its worth... tony hawk and guitar hero to name a couple. But whatever, if it wasn't them, itd be ubisoft or Sony or whoever else.
What really cheeses me off is that they think they are bigger than the individual (more so than any other company I find). They aren't really interested in listening to gamers... and only care about shareholders... its a typical capitalist company run by people at the top who make game breaking decisions. There's no reason why they can't have dedicated servers with a login like Steam or Counter Strike and not matchmaking - if that is what people want. There's no reason why they can't still have premium DLC and a modder community that needs to have their content endorsed by Infinity Ward and effectively charge for it. There's no reason why they can't have things like split screen co-op (means people buy one copy instead of two and also technical reasons). There's no reason they can't listen to the game community... because RIGHT NOW IW don't give a sh** about the fans and know they are going to make money ANYWAY... they know Joe Blow 1 will buy the game, which if Joe Blow 2 was going to boycott he'll end up buying the game 'reluctantly' but still will buy the game anyway.
The only thing that stops this is if people actually vote with their wallet... and judging from the picture from Zhou - they aren't.
The question is how much do people really care? Not that much it seems... two things come out of this - either the game community is soft and likes to bend over for game publishers and developers or they are a bunch of whiny b******* that through the anonymity of the internet like to take a cheap shot while everyone else is also having a go. With so much immaturity amongst gamers in general its no wonder they don't take us seriously when we want a R18+ classification - but i suppose thats an entirely different topic.
So for those that are really upset - put your money where your mouth is, its not like there's a drought of games - its christmas. _________________

dw everyone, i bought 2 copies one on pc, that didnt install properly and cost me my stand-by optus wireless internet cap, and an xbox 360 version.
I solemly swear to never again buy a multiplatform game on pc again. and ive been playing pc games since 89 when i was 7, but unless its pc exclusive ill buy it on x360.
im not sure how many of u realise, but this wasnt the first mp game to not have dedicated servers. blacksite area 51, farcry 2, bionic commando, kane and lynch, gta 4, etcetc. in fact nearly every game thats been ported to pc has run p2p. and to me, thats good enough reason to sway to 360 gaming

I hate Activision and Bobby Kottick, that smug bastard, as much as the next person but I can't fault their behavior.
Games are business, big business.
Companies have a legal obligation to maximize profits to their shareholders, unfortunately that's really all there is to it. Activision just happen to be very good at this and as long as people respond by lining up around the block to buy their games, it's going to keep happening.
Being the proud owner of more Guitar Hero games than I can count, I can't really say I am doing anything to better the situation... _________________ http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197997175012

Yea I wish all this modern warfare money wasn't going to Activision. Their heads are big enough as it is. I doubt we will see many original titles from now on. Activision knows what makes money and it aint very often new IP's. _________________

The latest installment in the "Call of Duty" action franchise was expected to at least match last year's "Grand Theft Auto IV," which was the most successful video game release in history and at the time may have been the top entertainment launch ever.
That game, from Take-Two Interactive Software Inc., had sold 3.6 million units on its opening day, worth $310 million worldwide. "Call of Duty" made that much in just North America and Britain.
The launch of "Call of Duty" also easily brought in more than last year's record $155 million opening weekend for the Batman movie "The Dark Knight." |

I'm rather glad that MW2 (and Guitar Hero: WT) soured me on two big Activision franchises. They'll be getting less money from me and I can spend my time playing something other than the same old ****.
