I thinking about getting a ps3, but don't know if it is going to be worth it.
I will probably not connect online, and will only play the exclusive games. Are these games worth a ps3, is the blue ray decent, or just a run of the mill type chucked in for sell-ability?
Also, while I'm here, anyone know of a place with a good promotion/deal or cheap price? _________________

Well, it's hard to say. The PS3 has plenty of exclusives but they won't all necessarily appeal to you. MGS4, for example, I absolutely love, but I would never recommend it to people who weren't already fans of the series. It'd be best if you had some way of trying them out before you go all out on a PS3. I would definitely say that it's worth it for Uncharted 2 alone, but I'm not exactly the most unbiased source

It's generally thought to be the best Blu Ray player around. It's very quiet and firmware updates are incredibly easy, instead of the hassle most standalone players have. There's not really much more you could want from it. It's also able to Bitstream Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master Audio, whereas the original PS3 could only send it as PCM. _________________

Its worth it...for Uncharted alone.
With the $200 price drop its a great time to pick one up and with basically all the exclusives gone platinum you can pick them up for $40-$50 each.
I'd say definately get one, the exclusives are great and there is a few fair getting released in the next 6 mths.
Little Big Planet
Uncharted
Resistance 1 & 2
MotorStorm
Killzone 2
Heavenly Sword
Folklore
Metal Gear Solid 4
Ratchet & Clank
Then we have the following to look forward
Uncharted 2 (GOTY)
Last Guardian
M.A.G
ModNation Racers
God of War 3
Ratchet & Clank: Crack in Time
Heavy Rain
So theres the general exclusive list and as you can see, its solid.
Hope this helps. _________________

imo the best experiences to be had on the PS3 are all single/local multi-player. So yeah you can still have a buttload of fun without going online. Keep in mind that alot of games have updates and stuff that you might need, and its free to connect to PSN.
If you can get it online there's lots of great single player exclusives on the PS Store as well. _________________

I think to be honest mate you've got to have a good look at all the games available to the PS3, and then ask yourself if you think those games are worth it.
If you've already got a 360 then you're asking if it's worth it to buy five 360 games or get a PS3.
I'd say go for it, but keep a few hundred dollars spare for a few extra games. Also, if you aren't 18 like me, you might not be able to access the PSN Store. You need a credit card for it.
If you don't have a next gen console yet then have a very good look at the 360 and compare. Ask a few mates if you like, and play some of their games.
It's fairly simple really isn't it? Loads of benifits on both consoles, just look at the exclusives and the future and see if you like anything. _________________

Don't just get it for the sake of getting it.
If you are having doubts, wait until there is a great sale on the console and see if that will tempt you more. Also, look at the exclusive titles that is on offer and see if you like it.
What's worth getting for one people is different to others. For me, a worth getting console is one where the price of the console is below $500 and has interesting exclusive games. If it going to blow your budget out of proportion, then maybe you could try and save up more.
When you going to have a 360-PS3 combo, I found from knowing people who have both they tend to only use one of them as their main console and use the other for exclusive titles. Is this the way you want to go? _________________ "Work hard now, play even harder later"

I do have 5 games i could do with out....so theoretically if i had not bought them of trade them...i see what your saying. And yes i am over 18 and have my own credit card...although i wish i didn't (and if i even get PSN).
After reading people post there are a few decent games for ps3 exclusive, some i wish i had...and some ideas for getting it cheap too. Its not a major want right now, so maybe post Christmas sales will see me with a new ps3.
Thanks guys _________________

Some bank company is giving those Visa debit card things to teenagers, so you can always get one of them. I just use my mums though.

I have to agree with Island_Wolf on this one...
Don't just get it for the sake of getting it now, and wait till it comes in at better price (such as bundles, after trading in some games, etc).
From the sounds of it, you'll only be using it for blu-ray and the exclusives.
The blu-ray will only be as good as your home theater set up, so if you don't have the decoding amp, hd tv, etc, then the blu-ray is pretty much negligent (and if you're not hooking it up to the net, you won't be able to use BD-Live (an online feature that some blu-rays have, even though it isn't that great). If you do have the setup, then this is definately worthwhile as a stand alone blu-ray player purchase, because as a bonus you can play PS3 games on it (it also works great as a home media center, I stream my TV shows from my computer to the PS3).
Exclusives wise, whilst each console has their share, you might find that the PS3 might start collecting dust. I'm in the same boat as you, I have both consoles but if a game comes out on both, I will most likely pick it up on my PS3. I hardly touch my Xbox, with the exception of playing exclusives, and that isn't very often. On the plus side, you always have the second console if you want to get something on that.
Of course, you have the back-catalogue of PS3 games already released, but it's best that you think long and hard about which of those you will play. You may also want to consider PSN (whilst the PAL PSN is crap), as there are few titles on there that are worth getting.
Good luck!
Anywayz, I hope that helps _________________ Playing: Fallout: New Vegas

ShortRaver, I know what your saying, and I'm not going out this arvo to go buy a new ps3. There will be some serious thinking between now and then, and i might even ask the parents to buy me it for Christmas.
Btw, i have a PSP, is there like a connectivity function...feature that will be an added bonus for my psp and/or ps3 when/if i get one. _________________

Yeah it's called Remote Play. Pretty much you can register your PSP to your PS3 and load your PS3 XMB onto the PSP. You can do this online as well when you're not home, you just need to set it up so you can stream it. _________________

Slim Ps3 arent backward compatible and it wont play on it. PS2 games were only playable in one Aus released console and it was the launch 60gb ps3. Your outta luck...

I'm guessing that's a PS2 game? If so, you can't play PS2 games on the PS3 Slim.

I was thinking of trading in my fat PS3 80 gig for a slim a few months ago but decided it wasn't worth it. YLOD surely won't happen to me...
If your into sports games at all though, MLB The Show 09 is the greatest sports title in the known universe and its best on the PS3.

Yeh... I dont really think there is much difference really... I don't use the HDD space coz of the media server (TVersity or PS3MediaServer)... but being a cheaper is good for Sony... so I've given the phat to my girlfriend, so she can enjoy the media server... get my slim soon... just for the hell of it.
