Yes, Bayonetta is brilliant. I thought Famitsu were just being soft when they awarded the 360 version a perfect 40/40 score (Four reviewers, 10/10 each), but it's totally justified.

It's packed full of so many game-related references that it's hard to keep up! I've seen Bayonetta yell "Henshin a-go-go baby!", the man behind the bar (Rodin) quotes the weapons dealer from Resident Evil 4 claiming to have 'seen it in a game once', and the level I just finished had Outrun's classic 'Splash Wave' as you barrel down a highway jumping from vehicle to vehicle taking out enemies. That's but a small handful of the fan service dished out by the bucketload.

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Bayonetta herself is one of the greatest videogame characters ever created. Once you get your hands on it, I'm sure you'll agree. There's never been anything like her before, and I'll be playing the game multiple times just to see the brilliant story cutscenes unfold again.

I uploaded a short clip of the second major boss level's introduction just to give you a taste of the awesome. Be careful if there's young kiddies in earshot, because Bayonetta drops the f-bomb.

It's laden with gore, incredible action sequences, huge replayability, and the best main character since... well, since Nathan Drake. It's easily my Game of the Year so far (keeping in mind that I don't have my PS3 over here, so I've been unable to play Uncharted 2!). Hell, the first 60 seconds of the game have more action than most games in their entirety. You're on the face of a crumbling clocktower hurtling down the side of a cliff while taking out an army of angels with hand and heel-mounted pistols.

If you've got a PS3, import it now. It's region-free and entirely in English, but Famitsu marked it down slightly (38/40) because of Sega did a shoddy job porting it over. If you've got a 360, you'll have to wait until January because Sega region-locked the NTSC-J copy. It's straight from Platinum (the developer), runs at an almost constant 60fps, and controls like a dream.

This should be on everybody's 'must have' list, no exceptions! icon_cool.gif

Wow, seems awesome! Thanks for the impressions Bronze-Sama, now I must get it. Perhaps a little break from Tekken 6 hehe.

I always struggle to decide if I should post such negative posts in a thread about something someone likes.I think that if I don't like something a thread is about that maybe I shouldn't post anything. But at the same time I think that I should be able to post what I think even if it is opposite to the tread in question.

Anyway I hope I don't piss anyone off with this post but here goes:

Sorry but that vid just like every other thing I've seen of this game makes me think "f this game looks like a piece of s-t."

To me it just seems extremely cheesy and like it tries TOO hard to be cool.

I just don't see the appeal of this game AT ALL.

I had my doubts about the PS3 version of the game. I have a PS3 and a 360, and I didn't want to buy the inferior performing version, but I couldn't imagine playing an action game like this on the 360 controller. Then I played the Japanese demo, and if the framerate every chugged I didn't notice because I was too busy SHOOTING THINGS WITH MY FEET.

I'm still not entirely sold on the idea of importing the Japanese version, since my backlog is a giant teetering pile as it is, but my fears of an unplayable PS3 version have been put to rest.

If you're expecting something dark and serious, then you're in the wrong place. The prologue of the game opens with one of Bayonetta's friends taking a piss on the game director's gravestone, and finishes with Bayonetta unashamedly ripping herself out of a nun costume and taking out a hoard of angels to a JPop rendition of 'Fly Me To The Moon'. Seriously.

Speaking of which, the game never takes itself seriously. It's pretty damn funny, and has enough cheese to kill an army of lactose-intolerant pensioners. It's over the top, it's epic, and it's all the better for it.

It's not 'trying' to be cool. It is cool. icon_cool.gif

I'm not sure exactly what you were expecting, but if you're discounting the entire game based on its aesthetic qualities, then you're also going to miss out on one of the deepest and most engrossing action games to date.

It's not expectations that make me not like it, it just looks crap to me.I know it's not meant to be serious but that doesn't make it seem any less ridiculous in my eyes.

I guess it's just not my style of humour/comedy/sillyness.Much like I thought Super Troopers was the worst attempt at being funny I have ever seen.

I don't look at it and think it's silly/funny fun, I look at it and thinks it's lame.

Also not wanting to play it based on it's aesthetics is enough for me as I'm not what you would call a fan of these types of games so it has to appeal to me aesthetically or I will not like it.

Take God of War and DMC as an example.I have played both and while I enjoyed DMC, I didn't like it enough to play the sequels. But GOW I LOVED because of the aesthetics.Because I liked the Greek Mythology and art style of the game I was able to enjoy it enough to want to play every GOW after it.

That's very... superficial of you. icon_lol.gif

Fair enough though. To each their own. I think most people will come to their own conclusions about whether it interests them or not, and nothing I say will change that. Even if you find it aesthetically unpleasing, I'd still recommend giving it a go though. It has some amazing level design, lightning-fast combat, and the soundtrack in the later levels is truly epic, easily on par with the music found in God of War.

I'd personally rather play an aesthetically unpleasing but fun game over an aesthetically pleasing but boring game.

For the record, I also didn't 'get' Super Troopers. icon_wink.gif

My housemate won't buy it because the main character dresses "like a ****", and not much else (The irony of this statement is not lost on myself or my other housemates). I'm going to be picking it up come European launch just to irritate him, as I found the demo amazing, even on the PS3.

Bronze, why did you do this to me?

Do I wait for the 360 version, or get the PS3 version now? Lawdy.

It is hard to commit to buying an inferior version, and the wait isn't that long ...

I read all this about the PS3 version, imparticular the demo being an absolute dog. Is there a realistic chance that these severe kinks have been ironed out for the final product? Either way there is nothing that really annoys me more than when one version on a particular platform blows.

This game had at the start when I heard that the DMC director was behind this, but all this talk of the PS3 version being bad is putting me off from importing. Probably wait for the official PAL release though I highly doubt anything will be fixed.

Just finished Bayonetta.

There's only one word for it. Epic.

My game of the year, for sure. Took 13 hours from Prologue to Epilogue, and I thoroughly enjoyed every second of it. It's always fun, always brings something new to the table to keep it fresh and exciting, and Bayonetta herself is up there with my favourite videogame characters of all time.

There's so many things that I want to mention, like the amazing bosses and the story and the characters, the jaw-dropping graphics and level designs, the fantastic soundtrack... but anything I say beyond that will be a spoiler for you all, and that's something I'm not prepared to do.

I can't recommend it enough. icon_mrgreen.gif

Oh my god can't wait, I just picked it up a few days ago with some cd pack in. I bought the PS3 version since the XB360 is region locked.

Was watching the trailer in Yodobashi Akibahabara this afternoon, and heaps of advertising around the stations.

I'll get the XB360 version when it gets released next year but till then the PS3 will help me reach my ultimate climax. icon_smile.gif

The game looks great no doubt but I don't think the character is that great.

When i first saw it and first impressions do count, she is a over-sex cheesy, cringe worthy character. It shamefully embarrassing to watch and offputting. I have actually not felt this way since seeing David Brent from the british show: "The Office".

The PS3 version better be fine. When i got the demo, it ran and looked fine. I dont have a 360. It should be fun, but for now, this is a game that can be on the to-buy list for Jan or whenever it comes out.

I would have to disagree.

Initially she comes across as brash, in-your-face, and kind of obnoxious. The first few chapters are all about strong and sexy Bayonetta, taking out enemies with style and cheesy quips, lollipop in hand. That's the character you see in the video I inserted in this thread's initial post.

As the game progresses, something major story-wise happens. You're exposed to a more vulnerable, caring, and human Bayonetta. Instead of caring only for herself and her pursuit for knowledge, she becomes emotionally attached to a man and a child, and another Umbra witch named Jeanne. Their relationships are presented in a realistic and heartfelt way.

You genuinely feel for her in the latter half of the game. You sympathise with her struggles. You feel her anger. You want to protect those around you, and are often forced to do so in the face of powerful adversaries.

Im sitting on the fence with this game...is it similar to Devil May Cry? Which two games made out and gave birth to this? Just so I can get an idea of what it is like.
As most videos i find at the moment aren't really game-play...or are too poor of quality to make proper judgment.
