|
I just got myself a PS3 and I have a USB hard drive with MP3s and YouTube type movies on it. I thought it would be as easy as plugging the drive into a USB port to be able to listen to the music or watch the movies, but it seems that it doesn't see the drive or something..
Am I missing something here, or is the only way to see those files on the PS3 to burn them to a DVD? _________________

Either that or chuck it onto a usb.
Hard drives need to be in fat32 to be recognized by the ps3. _________________

SwissKnife is the best program I've used for converting the format of past HDDs. _________________

I should have figured that out when my HDD stopped working with my 360 after I formatted it. Oops. _________________

Also, video files have to be in a folder named VIDEO in the root directory and MP3s in a folder named MUSIC. _________________

I was having problems using my thumb drive to watch tv shows/movies etc.
The trick to it is before you choose the drive in the XMB, press triangle and choose Display All. This will show the entire drive, including all folders, files, and whatever other crazy contraptions in there.

or alternatively, call your folders whatever you like, navigate to the HDD section under the appropriate media type (Photos, Music, Video), press triangle, select Display All, and go to where-ever you've put your stuff. _________________

And win7 doesn't have fat32 anymore they have fatXsomething....it's the new version of FAT but noone else is using it yet! so it isn't compatible with anything other than win7 lol _________________ "A learning experience is one of those things that says 'you know that thing you just did? ^FAT32 is an old file system that only supports file with a size upto 4GB minus 1byte so for use of today, it is quite outdated, hence the needs for an improvement to file systems. Windows 7 supports NTFS, just like Vista and XP. _________________ "Work hard now, play even harder later"

Oops, I meant you can't have a file with a size larger than 4GB minus 1byte.
There is no "limits" to how big you want your FAT32 partition to be, it was just enforced by the MS OS since you really shouldn't be having a huge FAT32 partition because it will fragment more wildly than NTFS and makes it very slow. FAT32 however is still used a lot today, especially in portable drives since NTFS is a MS thing and many OS supports FAT32 like Linux and Mac OSX. _________________ "Work hard now, play even harder later"

I have a Pioneer 7000bt with USB and a WD 320gb portable drive. I have tried every type of music format(wav,mp3 etc.) I have an external power supply and my drive lights up but the head unit always says that there is no audio. What am I doing wrong? Any help on how to make this work would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks _________________ usb kabel

Same deal, is the portable drive file system FAT32 or NTFS?
Maybe try a car audio forum btw. _________________ XBL/PSN/Steam: BenC82

I would love my PS3 so much more if it supported NTFS and .mkvs.
For those with portable HDDs, I'll have most of in NTFS for big files and partition a small bit for FAT32 or just use a USB flash drive for movies/music/photos. _________________

NTFS is owned by Microsoft. So... nope. _________________
