The Company are actually planning to release this in stores early next year.
Just a few quick things I got from the site.
There are 3 Characters to use from.
You can have a pet with you, helps with battles, levels up etc.
The main story takes around 10-20 hours and yes there is a story with cut scenes.
It cost $20 USD and is 300MB in size.
After you finish the main story you can still complete side quests and explore Torchlight.
Its a single player game only, however they are already developing a MMO ROG within the Torchlight world. _________________

It IS very nice! It's from the makers of Mythos too, which if everyone can cast their minds back, was a game I was pushing big time here a year and a bit ago.
Mythos was great, but they've really outdone themselves on Torchlight. It's actually currently just a SINGLE PLAYER GAME, that is providing the technical foundation and financial support for the Torchlight MMO that they're now starting to develop.
But DAMN, I swear, this has the most visceral combat system since Titan Quest. Heck, it surpases titan quest-- the spells and attacks are absolutely awesome to pull off, they feel so meaty and chunky and badass.
It's basically a dungeon crawler with a fairly thin storyline, so don't go expecting any epic RPG tale to sweep you away. This is about the Action packed combat and the loot whoring.
There's also hardcore mode and four difficulty levels to plow through, and the last difficulty is pretty bloody hard!
Loads of value here, I'm absolutely loving it. And it runs great via Crossover Games on my MBP _________________

Doooo it! The graphics and artwork is sublime...and the MUUUUSSIC!
Maaaan, it's by the SAME dude that did the Diablo 2 music, and you can tell as SOON as you fire this game up that no game SINCE Diablo 2 has even come close to the memorable quality of this guy's orchestrations.
I can *still* to this date hum all D2's various tunes and themes (or at least instantly recognise it), and I just know it'll be the same for Torchlight. _________________

Shutup please. If I buy this now, then I'll have two obsessions: Demon's Souls and Torchlight, and then my ability to be able to do anything other than play games over the next few days will be ten times weaker!
No idea why that's a bad thing though. Will buy soon enough, gameplay looks wicked sick. _________________

Think Diablo 2 and that's what the base they've gone from.
There are coloured classes to items, with more powerful items having more stats. There are a heap of items, and every class can use every item so long as they have the requisite stats. This is predominantly an action RPG, loot-fest, monster killing game with heaps of boss monsters to get through (and by extension, constantly more epic loot to get your mitts on).
There are socketable items with ember shards that you find via looting and you can enchant items over and over for additional stats with items and gold picked up from looting.
Best part about looting is that you aren't just selling off boatloads of gear. There is a shared stash where you can palm off your awesome loot that may not be fitting for your character to any of your other created characters. Gives a real insentive to keep playing through at the hardest difficulty levels (which apparently are bloody hard).
Recommended to start off at norma or hard. Very hard is what it says-- damn difficult.
And of course there is Hardcore mode too for the masochistic looter. _________________

They are making a Mac version which is great, I will try out the demo for it, but I don't know how a single player Diablo would work.

Ok my thoughts so far....
Brilliant game, one of the best games released this year and if you don't buy it at this very very low price we will never see any support for it and no multiplayer version (Yes there will be an MMO version in 18 months or so).
Gameplay is fantastic, if you like Diablo you will love this, in fact if you like ANY rpg you will love this. For the loot fans out there, yes there are epics, as low as level 4 I have seen them, this game is all about loot whoring and what better way to assist you than put your loot on your pet. Not only does your pet (that everyone gets) holds loot for you but it has a nice little button that sends him back to town to sell your stuff for you, this allows you to continue on collecting more loot as you carve your way through the legions of enemy in your wake.
Music is brilliant, done by of course some of the original guys from Blizzard, it has the hint of D2 music which is great, there are tonnes of different tracks and the music is done superbly to match the game.
Classes, well there are 3 different classes as most of you know, inside this of course is the skill trees for each class. So in total you can pretty much go about 9 different classes, of course making hybrids if you like or specialise in 1 skill tree to become super powerful. Customisation is quite good in this respect for the skill trees.
Well....Thats probably the main things that I can pick out of this game, I mean I could go on and on but once you buy this game (and you will) you will soon discover that this is one of the most addictive games ever.
10/10

Just a small correction of info here, so no one's deluded. The MMO won't be available for another year and a half, roughly. Though its development hasn't hinged entirely on how this was received, the SP game definitely consumed the developers, as they cranked it out VERY quickly.
Fortunately, all the assets in the SP game were designed with the MMO in mind, so the development of Torchlight as we know it has all helped contribute to the grander MMO project. It's just a fair while away yet _________________

Think Diablo mixed with a WoW art style. The music, game dynamics (town portal, inventory system, etc) are all very diablo-ish, even the monsters. Seriously, the best Diablo clone since Titan Quest, maybe even better than them both. And having your dog run off to town to sell your loot for gold; pure genius. Seriously guys, for the price being asked, this game is well worth your $$$!
