i'm currently finishing off a cert 2 in cooking, which is really not good for weight loss with all the food consumption :/

i end up sampling so many little bits of various dishes, at least my weight is not as bad as it could be. on the upside, i'll be able to make a lot more things when finished, and my tastes have matured a little so i no longer can tolerate microwaved crap much. more than half the things i've learnt are better for gaining weight than loosing it though, i just end up eating more. and while i'm getting a fantastic array of new flavors and food styles, it's a hobby that goes to my waist-line so i'll have to slowly drop back a bit on the food enthusiasm, and just hold to making some more selected meals.

i'm around 113 kgs at the moment, so i really need to loose some weight when i finish this and thus also have more free time. i need to look at some sports or activities to take up, there is very little exercise in my life and hasn't ever really been outside short bursts.

I just wondering... does anyone know a good protein powder that can be brought in Melbourne? I'm not looking for anything flashy or expensive, just something simple that would be good for a first-time user icon_biggrin.gif Recommended shop locations also would be good if you know any icon_wink.gif

I'm going to set a goal to lose about 20 kilos by Australia Day.
Most of the time i'll be in Japan, so that should help. Maybe.

lol I gotta say but I don't think so... Japan is full of delicious, sweet *and sometimes really expensive* foods that you won't be able to say no to everywhere... if you don't control yourself it may go the other way :S Good luck not letting it do that tho icon_wink.gif

Hey guys, can anyone know anything about Treadmill speeds or anything?

At the gym i'm at the brand of gym equipment is Nautilis, and the treadmill speeds go up by .1 ...

So anyway im wondering if the speed goes up by Kilometers per hour? for example if I was walking at 7.5 would that be 7.5 kph?

Or is it simply a basic meter with no real meaning?

Im trying to find the true speed im running at currently...

It'll be either KMs or MPH. Quick way to check (without asking the gym staff) would be to see what it asks for when you enter your weight, in metric or imperial. If you can enter either, ramp it up to 10 and see if you can keep up. If you can, it'll be KMs, if it's a struggle, it's MPH.

So summer is just around the corner and it's time for me to return to running outdoors. I did my first 8km run this week. I was well off where i was 6 months ago, but it felt great to be running outside again. Anyone else returned to outdoor exercise yet?

I'm back into it, only running about 4km's for now (although I go at it daily or every couple of days).

Need to get mega fit for the Air Force in 5 months.

Almost 2 months ago I was getting ready for the start of the cricket season. I'd been training at least once a week, building up my strength and fitness to improve my bowling. I was already for the start of the season 5 or 6 weeks ago. Then I started getting ill from a chronic condition I've had since I was 4, and got worse to the point where I was admitted to hospital literally on the day the cricket season started.

After a week in hospital, and a month of feeling **** beforehand, I'd gone from a lean 65kg, down to 56kg (I'm 6ft).

In the month since I hit 'rock bottom' I've been trying to first of all get better, and secondly try to get back my weight and build strength and fitness again for cricket to try and make a comeback. It's only this week that I've actually started to gain weight again and I've put on 2kg. I'm aiming to be back for cricket the weekend after next but I know I'm going to be a long way from peak performance.

I've been eating heaps, but healthy foods (it's not like I have an option as anything fatty, oily or generally unhealthy makes me feel horrible) and particularly focusing on protein, including a special protein supplement they gave me when I left hospital.
As far as exercise goes I've been doing some light weights and core strength exercises. I'm pretty screwed for fitness though as I'm only now starting to regain my energy levels. Even last week just walking around the shops for an hour would leave me exhausted and in need of a snooze (it wasn't until 2 weeks after hospital that I could make it through the day without a mid-afternoon nap).

Any other tips for rapid weight/strength/fitness gain?

ah k thanks, yeah I dont do any of the enter weight/height stuff (but its in cm and kilo's), I just hit quick start and crank the setting to 12.1 and run for 20 minutes.

So that would mean im running 12 kph then, excellent icon_smile.gif

Thats intense. I had something like that over summer. Got mono and lost 15kg. It was freaking awful, i was just bones for weeks.

lol I've really fell off the band wagon.

After running city 2 surf, I pretty much fell off and have not stuck to any solid routine for the last months until now, mainly because of HSC, which unfortunately the trials were the day after city 2 surf.

After HSC I plan to go back to Gym probably every second day, and go for runs outdoor in the days I don't go. This time it will be easier because two of my friends who are real meat heads (the kind that get on all the protein supplments) will be there practically every day to help train me up.

So hopefully, by february when uni starts I'll be a lean, mean fight'in machine. ;D

theory
i joined a gym 6 weeks ago to get a bit fitter and the results are awesome. im lifting anywhere from 12 - 30kg more than when i started and gone from 3 sets of 20 situps to 3 sets of 70. the pain goes away after a while though.

i changed my diet completely as well but still no weight loss despite this. i'll give it some time because i have definitelty bulked up a bit.

Question for anyone who knows much about muscle building supplements: I've just started working again after becoming a father and the time I can spend exercising has dropped to virtually nothing. Combined with my office based work I've found I've really dropped off with muscle tone and strangth in general.

So, with this in mind, what's a good muscle/strength building supplement that would help someone who has to fit their exercise into small, intense chunks?

I'm after something that's stronger than creatine, but not steroids. I kinda like having nads and not having boobs, so that's out of the question icon_biggrin.gif

I've put on about 3-4kg since my last post 2 weeks ago. I started playing cricket again on Saturday and it absolutely killed me the next day! I could barely move my legs were so sore, and my back, and my arms, and everything else that moves was too sore to move.

It was weird when I was batting. I went to run between the wickets (after hitting a marvellous shot, thanks for asking) and set off to sprint. Problem was, nothing happened. It was like I had first and second gear, but when I wanted to get moving real quick, there was no third or fourth. My leg muscles had completely gone from being bed-ridden for that long and not having any real activity over a 2 month period. Every time I went to run on Saturday my brain was telling my legs to go but nothing would happen. It was really a bizarre feeling.

I'm struggling to recover from opening the bowling two weeks in a row... 7 and 8 over spells... And I have a gamers physique!

And two dropped catches off my opening over this week made it worse!!!

I thought I'd take it easy and field in slips. It wasn't until Sunday that I realised the entire afternoon of crouching for every ball was worse and almost all my leg pain is from doing those squats for 4 bloody hours!

I had to use a mate's bat so it didn't have enough power. I have a new bat that I'm knocking in at the moment that would have sent it to the boundary icon_wink.gif

I also bowled 2 overs, but they were depressingly slow. If I hadn't got sick I would have been opening or first change bowler from the start of the season. Now I've just got terrible figures from getting carted in those two overs, and nothing to show for the 4 dropped catches that came off those 2 overs (probably the most frustrating thing for a bowler). icon_sad.gif

Yeah, I opened on the weekend and was getting carted, so I didn't last bowling more than 2 overs before being taken out of the attack! How embarrassing!

Cricket is such a day to day game for me. One day I might be sending down rockets, then the next week I'm sending down slow pies! It's very frustrating...
