Yep, just remove the harddrive and put it into whichever console you are using....your harddrive retains everything and you can use your live account + saves on any console with it. Its easy to remove and the easiest way to use and access all your stuff on any console.
Either that or get a memory card, but tbh its much easier to just move the hard drive to whatever xbox you use, I frequently do that when I go to friends places _________________

Go online on the other console, recover it, then put the cable or whatever back into the other one?

Agreed. And I'd just like to add, if you are worried you're going to break the hard drive, when you get it out just take a look at it, press the little button a couple of times to see how it works and you'll be fine. It really is very simple.
'Recover Gamertag' is all well and good, but you don't get all your save files.

Thats not the best option, firstly he said that he only has internet access on one console, which means that its either impossible or an inconvenience to get the other to the internet...to recover you need both online so it can update his profile, otherwise its a bit of a pain. Secondly, some profiles can take a really long time to download, its not an instant thing, mine takes about 20-30 minutes on a 20Mb connection. Thirdly, recovering your gamertag doesn't bring over all save games, and other associated files.
Just move your harddrive around, they are sturdy, you wont risk your data in doing that, thats what they are designed for, as long as you aren't throwing it against the wall there is no danger. Just be careful that the console is OFF when you take it out, as otherwise whatever game your playing can have its sava data corrupted. _________________

Sorry to hijack the thread here, but just wondering.. I'm thinking of replacing me and my brother's current 20GB 360 Pro with a 120GB (or inevitable 250GB) Elite, then putting the old Pro in my room, plugged into my LCD monitor.
Both our Live profiles are currently on the 20GB console, I presume using a hard-drive transfer kit will result in everything being moved over, not just specific profiles. I'm essentially looking for a way to split me and my brother's profiles up so he can use the Elite and I can use the Pro.
Also wondering.. all DLC/XBLA games have been bought on my account. I presume as long as I log into both consoles and redownload them on both, both of our accounts can still access the games? _________________

The original console you unlocked the games on will have free use to play those games, but any other console you will have to signed in to Live to be able to play out of Trial mode.
And some games like Braid seem to lose your games progress if you are not on the original console it was unlocked on. _________________

DLC/XBLA are married to the original console that it was first downloaded onto AND to the gamertag.
So anyone can play DLC/XBLA on your Pro - you, your bro, your friends who bring along their profile (via online recover or via mem card). The gamertag that the DLC/XBLA belongs to, does NOT need to be logged in, nor does it even need to exist. I guess this was setup this way so that anyone in the family can play the game without having to purchase the same game multiple times. Consumer backlash would have been too much to handle if this wasn't the case.
Because the DLC/XBLA is also married to the purchasing gamertag, you can play the DLC/XBLA on any machine, as long as that gamertag is logged into Live e.g. your Elite. So your bro could be playing the same DLC/XBLA on the Pro (the purchasing machine) at the same time as you on the Elite (while the purchasing gamertag is logged into Live). I guess this was setup so that you can take your gamertag to your friend's house and play your DLC/XBLA there, but when you leave, it doesn't leave a functioning game at your friend's.
Microsoft does allow you to transfer the license to another machine, once each year, so you can, if you want, move the DLC/XBLA to the Elite so that anyone can play them on the Elite, while you can still play on the Pro (as long as you are logged into Live with the purchasing gamertag). YOu can pick and chooce which license to (not) transfer via their web interface, but you need to be able to connect both machines at the same time when prompted by the web site.
