The new update is here tonight. I'm curious to see how beneficial it actually is.

Why does it hurry up? I have work tomorrow and I want to get theses small things and updates out of the way. I assume that update is referring to the US times so hopefully, some time after mid day here.

I'm wondering if they might do something for the logo that pops up when you boot up a game etc....to ditch the spiderman font as they have for the slim. Given they're effectively re-branding the ps3, would make sense if they do that. Assuming they have just one firmware now and don't have a slightly different one for slims.
I notice they've already done it in the profile thing below I have in my sig..

They might, but then again the slim PS3 has no PS3 logo at all when games boot, and it comes up when the system turns on instead... And Slims dont ship with 3.0 >_>
I want this. Believe it or not my most anticipated feature....is that the battery meter will no longer overlap the clock. Yeah I'm weird.

That's quite bloody important, your in middle of a race (Wipeout HD) and you want to check the time without waiting a few precious seconds. 
I'm on the look out for any hidden features they always throw in.

This new FW is shit. On the plus side, the friends list loads a HELL of a lot faster (took just 5-10 seconds, avatars included, and my list is full)
Other than that though, it looks awful, just check out the grey box around every person on your list. And for some reason, every icon in the XMB is bigger. What's New is obtrusive in my opinion. Only other changes I've noticed is the font style on boot up, and a little notification of how many friends are online and number of unread messages next to time/date

Just downloaded it then.
Worst looking update yet. The icons are expanded and makes it look like the XMB is in a lower resolution and the grey boxes surrounding friends is ugly and blocks the wallpaper.
The addition of ANOTHER PS Store icon is intrusive and literally only 2 dpad presses across from the old icon anyway... so why add a new one.
There is now almost as much redundant icons as the NXE.
If only the update was optional......

Haha, not saying Playstation 3 before booting up will seem weird, I dunno why, I thought it was weird the 360 didn't say anything like that. Meh, at least it will be a few seconds quicker loading up .

Another thing I just noticed, platinum trophies no longer count toward your trophy completion percentage. Plus check your profiles, my level increased by 20%

You can turn 'What's new' off in the settings too.
Must admit I'm not liking the super large font that has replaced the default ones either.
After the update I can't seem to connect to PSN now either. I assume it's a load issue their end for the time being, although the update downloaded quick enough...was quicker to download than to install.

It took me a couple of minutes to sign in. You can change font, there is 3 different ones. Where is the 3D LBP theme? Or isn't it there yet?

Yeah, but all three of the core fonts have had their size upped.
Not tried out any themes that come with fonts to see if they've been changed as well, although I would imagine they haven't been...

Seems like the US store has the new animated LBP theme for US$2.99...nothing for us as yet...
I'm intrigued how this one plays out, the US store has always had some free and some paid themes, but we've pretty much always had free (I know there were some exceptions like Bioshock, but you got the theme for free if you bought the game).
