Enjoyed it far more than I was expecting to - it treads the line between serious and sci-fi action very well, with a good dose of dark humour thrown in to the mix and some nice splatter. Two thumbs up, for sure.
Just don't go in there trying to connect all the holes in the plot, you won't win _________________

I've literally only watched the teaser trailer yonks ago. So I was asked, "let's go watch District 9", I thought, "Hmm was that the one with the mothership in Africa?" Yep it was. I didn't even see this thread before.
I enjoyed it immensely. I didn't know what kind of film to expect, I did not know where this film was going, so I was thrilled.
I thought that some of the Africans did not need to be subbed, the frikken main character has an accent, what makes it so hard to understand theirs?
There was supposed to over a million prawns in D9, yet the place with pretty deserted. They must be all in their shanties.
Other then that, it is a thumbs up! _________________

You can second that . The last movie that had me this giddy with excitement whilst watching was the matrix. An awesome movie, albeit not a perfect one, but damn what a ride..
Is it me, or does this movie just feel like Half-Life?
That Halo movie or Evangelion, doesn't seem to be such a bad idea right now..

And of course Armidale's cinema is showing any signs of getting this movie. I loved the teaser, and it got glowing reviews from David and Margaret on At The Movies. But no, this town sucks too hard to get any good movies.

Yeah, I didn't really notice much in the way of plot holes, sure things fell together a little too conveniently (of all the shacks he happens to hide out in Christophe's) but otherwise I thought the plot fit together quite nicely, but yeah, thrown down what irked you I'd be interested to know.

Saw District 9 this afternoon, very good film and the parallels with Apartheid really helped the storyline, great job from the majority of the cast. Will definitely be buying this when it comes out.

I was surprised at how "Documentary" it was, I really wasn't expecting an open style documentary, it really added a lot ot the film in my opinion.

just got back from it - on the whole, i thought it was fantastic.
the only thing i would've preferred, and this is really only an aesthetic thing, is more of a style shift when it went from the documentary parts, to the "real world" parts. i really liked the doco feel, but the bits that we see happening, but the "doco makers" don't know about should've been filmed with a more high-budget feel to it, imo.
tbh, i was expecting it to end with the mothership returning (cut to black, scroll credits) as if to imply that the events documented by the doco occurred 3 years ago.
i'm really not sure about a sequel though. on the one hand, i'd LOVE to see more, this had a great feel to it (the Half-Life comparison is quite fair) but on the other, i can totally see a sequel going all Blair Witch 2, instead of the ALIENS we'd all like the sequel to be. _________________

it really was brilliant, loved the sad final image we see, and Christopher and his son were awesome, Chris is the best alien character i've seen in a while (think only Avatar will come close this year).
Sharlto (the lead: Wikus Van De Merwe) was awesome, loved the setting, found the subtext of political and racist history obvious, but not hitting me over the head and made me cringe for the first half of the flick - second half I was cringing from all the body splattering!!!
I wonder what a sequel could do, it would need to have a similar tone, but would a documentary style work?
Love the fact it was made on $30million and didn't look any worse than Transformers did. The effects were brilliant, but didn't have to be flawless.
Go see this movie! _________________

To do that, they probably would have needed a bigger budget than $30 million.
