Yeah, again. This isn't a bumped thread from a couple of years ago.
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/news/e3i388dc3328f74c5ee953fdf2f59564bb2
26 episode season, to start airing in mid 2010.
Now, the movies weren't the best (Bender's Game was absolutely terrible, Beast with a Billion Backs was okay at best, the other two were alright), but hopefully the writers can get back into the groove and make some good episodes this way - at the very least the pacing issues of the movie should no longer be a problem.
...soooo... Good News Everyone? _________________

I love futurama but I'm honestly not sure if this is a good thing, when it got cancelled it sucked but everything we had was pretty much golden, then the movies came out and were of varying quality (Although I did really like the first one, the rest were all take it or leave it)... well I guess I'm just worried about it turning into the simpsons... _________________

More Futurama is a gooD thing! The movie length episodes have actually grown on me after multiple viewings but I'm pleased we're heading back into bite sized TV territory!

Spot on IMO. Even if these suck, you're right, at least they won't have to have stupidly boring long stories that not only don't make sense, but ruin what they have created in the Futurama universe. When they made the first movie, they made it out as it 'The Devil's Hands are Idle play things' never happened, so surely this new season will do the same to the movies? I really hope that don't acknowledge anything to do the with movies in the series, apart from maybe explaining how things get back to regular after the weird and terrible ending of the fourth movie.
Oh, and don't spend like 15 minutes of an episode on a topic that was considered old news 10 years ago - email scams.
Yeah, don't have high/any hopes for these. _________________

The Futurama movies seem to be falling into the same trap The Simpsons has. New Simpsons episodes are all the same: Homer does something stupid, pause for audience to stop laughing, repeat. With Futurama, replace the first step with 'Bender is a jerk'.
I think I would have liked it if Futurama had stayed cancelled, though there are still moments of hilarity in the movies. _________________

How could you say futurama should of stayed cancelled?
It's better than The Simpsons hands down. The fact that it mocks our society now and it in the future. The writing is good for an American cartoon.
As long it doesn't become A Simpsons clone like you said it still will be great.

I haven't watched the newest Futurama movie. But i agree that Beast witha billion backs was ok, Benders Game i also found to be ok. there were enough really funny moments to keep me interested...
But i LOVED Benders Big Score, I was able to watch it on 3 seperate occasions and still like it, unlike the other 2. So yeah, Big Score was awesome for me.
But on topic, i'm excited about new season.. should be good unless they do a Simpsons and get horrible for no reason... but theres still so many more ideas that could have happened... I mean, with The Simpsons, you're limited to a family in a town. With futurama... it's open ended as to where you can go. Need a new setting? New Planet! They've got to have heaps of ideas... Lets hope they're good ones

If it had stayed cancelled it would have been great for all time, but now that it's been brought back it's losing some of its sheen, and if it goes the way of The Simpsons in this new uncancellation it'll be forever tarnished.
Well, not tarnished, but it'll be divided into Good Futurama and ...Eh Futurama, whereas if it had stayed cancelled it'd just be Futurama. If it comes back as good as it ever was I'll be perfectly willing eat my words, but as of now my 'Do not want' reflex overrides all. _________________

Well, my 'Do want' reflex is going strong here. New Futurama, how I have longed for this day! After watching the fourth movie, and having been re-watching episodes, I found myself hoping that a new season would come. Even if it turns out bad, it's still new Futurama. _________________

But the thing is, all the 'Eh Futurama' in the world wont change the fact that 'Good Futurama' is good. Just like all the crap Simpsons now won't change the fact that the good Simpsons are still the best episodes of anything ever.

Isn't the Arrested Development movie confirmed to be happening now? Though I'm not sure its necessary, as the series ended perfectly. But much like this Futurama revival, I will watch regardless. _________________

While it doesn't by any means ruin it, it does ruin some of the universe. For me, Futurama ended perfectly. It wasn't set in stone, but in my mind Fry and Leela were about to get together and live happily ever after. Now that is changed. There are other small things that they have changed too, especially that they have played more with time travel and they have altered the meaning of some things which is a shame.

Yeah there is one confirmed, all the old cast are said to be on board. I'm with you though, why ruin a good thing? It did end perfectly. The main worry I have with it coming back is the George Michael and Maeby will be like 21 for the movie! That's like the age when you finish college. I wonder how they would play those characters? It's just strange to think about. I'm sure they'd find a way though and I'm equally as sure I'd be lining up day 1 to see it. /end off topic. _________________

Exactly Qbert.
Futurama ended on such a bittersweet tone leading a lot of fans to believe the movies would address the issues presented in the final season. Instead we (the fans) were treated to unfaithful and unoriginal writing with a cast of new unbearable characters that weren't fit enough to even make it onto a Family Guy skit (Oh I went there).
In it's prime Futurama offered it's audience quality writing and creative storytelling with a cast of interesting and enjoyable characters. Sadly as the show was put on hiatus the minds of those same writers have waned and they fell into the same habits Family Guy writers did when they were brought back in 2005 leaving us with a collection of forgettable movies that will leave fans hoping for the writers to admit that the stories were non-cannon and were for the purposes of promotion, only.
Just on the movies, I was dissapointed following the first movie. No, it wasn't horrible BUT it featured some horrible characters (I believe the writers could of done a better job by getting the animators to draw a sign "Hate us we're the most annoying group of villains EVAR") and shallow plot points for the sake of a cameo. What left me feeling dissapointed was that it commited the same crimes the Family Guy movie commited, bland writing and cheap jokes in the desperate void of quality writing that could essentially enrich the universe.
When Futurama makes it's return to television I hope that it leaves every trace of the movies behind and focusses on all of the strong points of the Futurama universe while trying to deal with some of the characters more. Before it was cancelled I thought Futurama had at least two more quality seasons left so now is the oppurtunity to see if that theory was correct.
While we're on the subject of Futurama, what was everyone's favourite episode?
Storytelling wise I loved the Sting. Such a kooky story which kept me interested through out the duration with a number of decent jokes to contain the overall drama of the episode. One of the more powerful episodes and one of the many reasons why I consider Season 4 to be one of the best seasons of animated comedy period.
Best episode though was "Time Keeps On Slippin" where the Harlem Globetrotters invade earth to engage Farnsworth's crew in a game of basketball. The writing was off the charts and the episode left me laughing, feeling dejected and whistling (I love Benders tune). Can't get more versatile than that. _________________

Best epp for me would be the one with Frys brother. Can't remember the name but it always managed to get me in the end even after the ending with Seymore had been diluted by seeing so many piss takes of it on 4chan. _________________

there are so many awesome episodes of Futurama that makes me SOOOO glad this is coming back as seasons (2 of 13 episodes each I've read elsewhere).
I enjoyed the movies, but don't think they last as well as the episodes. Hopefully the writing will be much greater than the last year or so as they get into a groove of tightness that the show benefitted from.
Good news everyone!!! _________________

Got it in the first two posts. Time Keeps on Slippin' and The Luck of the Fryrish are the two best episodes of the series. I find it hard to split them, so I'm not going to, but they're definitely the top 2. _________________

My favourite would probably be "the devils hands are idle playthings". There is that awesome song in it and there is a good mix of jokes and story. It also has awesome characters in it, Nixon, Robot Devil and Hedonismbot.
Oh and Jurasic Bark > Luck of the Fryish IMO. Though both are great.
Another would be Amazon Women In The Mood becuase it's the first episode that really got me into the series. I'd seen it here and there before and was a fan, but it was always on at bad times and I was pretty young. But upon seeing this at like 11PM randomly one night I went out and started my futurama collection. _________________

I used to think so but it kind of lost it after seeing it repeated as OMG SADDEST EPP EVER! So much on /co/ and then the eventual backlash of seymore porn and an awesome Mad Stan .gif of him blowing seymore up. _________________

What?! The show won't be the same with different actors, unless they sound the same, which I doubt. This is bad news for the series, hopefully the episodes are good.

Wow. There is really no point in bringing back the show if they have different voice actors. This is such bad news. Let's mutiny. _________________
