Now thats what I call a collectors edition. But chances we we probably aren't going to be seeing the Prestige Edition here in Australia, but one can only hope..... _________________

This is probably the stupidest collector's edition bonus I've seen yet. You know it will cost upwards of $150 as well.
Having said that, I'll pick up the Hardened edition, I like the art design on the steelbook case. _________________ PSWii60

Thought I'd point it out, but only the standard edition cover is emblazoned with the "Call of Duty" logo, while the "Hardened" and Prestige editions just the Modern Warfare 2 logo, but come with Call of Duty PSN/XBLA.
I'm keen to get my hands on the Artbook, as a 3d artist hobbyist I'd like to see how IW go about their level design and if anything the weapons and prop art would give me some inspiration.
Oh, NVGs would make a cool decoration, but I wouldn't really see myself using them, as an indoorsman, so the price would be hard to justify. _________________

Should've been a branded ice axe, so you can relive the 10 minutes worth of climbing ice from the E3 demo. (I was really regretting waking up at 3am when I was sitting through that on the live stream...)

Oh wow. Man I would really want those NVGs, but I really do see that Prestige Edition going for a lot more than $200.

DO WANT.
Price of that prestige edition is going to be phenomenal though.
How much do NVG's normally cost? _________________

NVG's are worth a heap of cash but they would not be able to give us a serious one for any sane amount of money. The other issue is that NVG's are prohibited in Australia except for the Defence forces and Customs will not let you bring them in without permits from the Police and the Commonwealth/Customs

Well, I'd imagine the ones provided with the game are not military standard , but more like the $80USD Eyeclops NVGs, which emulate the real thing, but offer pretty much no peripheral vision, and are monocular. They emit their own IR light with the built in LEDs, and pretty much work like a standard outdoor security camera.
| howstuffworks wrote: | | The original night-vision system created by the United States Army and used in World War II and the Korean War, these NVDs use active infrared. This means that a projection unit, called an IR Illuminator, is attached to the NVD. The unit projects a beam of near-infrared light, similar to the beam of a normal flashlight. Invisible to the naked eye, this beam reflects off objects and bounces back to the lens of the NVD. These systems use an anode in conjunction with the cathode to accelerate the electrons. The problem with that approach is that the acceleration of the electrons distorts the image and greatly decreases the life of the tube. Another major problem with this technology in its original military use was that it was quickly duplicated by hostile nations, which allowed enemy soldiers to use their own NVDs to see the infrared beam projected by the device. |
The current generation of Military issue NVGs are a lot more sophisticated, and work on light amplification rather than depending on providing their own light, read about the different types here _________________

Man that custom CE cover looks insane, I think I'm going for the hardened edition. Even though the NVG's will be hectic, if they are proper A/B-Grade quality.
Honestly though, I would rather spend $200+ on one of those awesome light sabers that you can get.
@Alex: Wow thats pretty cool, for some reason though I thought military grade infra-red goggles were $20,000-ish. But I might have been thinking about the goggles that can see through walls and not the night-vision ones.

Those night vision goggles are just going to be those cheap, crappy ones that market to kids branded with the Modern Warfare 2 logo. Not worth it. _________________

Whilst cool, I just can't see myself having much use for night vision goggles. I'll just get the second version.

I'll probably go for the hardened edition, solely for the CoD1 download code. Love that game so damn much,

At first I thought the prestige edition was awesome, but after reading some of the comments it doesn't seem that good.

Yeah, those NVGs are definitely cheap looking and as A13x pointed out just use LEDs to illuminate your vision. They don't even look like they are adult size. I suppose they might look nice sitting on a shelf with the Soap head, which really should have been made out of actual soap, or am I the only one who thinks so?

Very impressive and very tempting with the NVGs, but I'll stay resolute and only buy the standard.

So cool, but I'm really interested in knowing the prices for those CE's.
The Sculpture of Mctavish's head and the goggles would be pretty cool, but it depends on the price.
I'll definately get the Hardened edition and maybe the Prestige, depending on price. _________________

Ill probably just get the standard or Hardened Edition. Im not really keen on CE items that are not very practical. I mean, when was the last time I needed NVG? _________________

half of me is going "OMG BUY BUY BUY!"
and the other half is going "you're retarded, you can't even use them over your glasses"
it might be a struggle of epic proportions...

I gotta be honest, the thought of having the disembodied head of Soap watching me sleep at night is a little offputting. _________________

I hope the hardened edition has COD 1 download code because i dont want to get the Prestige Edition looks like a waste of money to me. Im not gonna wear the night vision goggles at night, people will see as a freak. It doesnt look very appealing as a collectors item either. _________________

Please, no double posting...
Yeah, I hardly see any practical use for night vision goggles, but if you're going to get a novelty item, its a pretty sweet one to get... _________________
