Just have a look at this thread here where everyone has listed off their top 5 PS2 games. You'll find most, if not all, the top quality PS2 games listed in there. _________________

Get one at a time and finish them all. Thats my suggestion. Stocking up on games is never as good as it sounds.
I'd start with OKAMI. _________________

Lets see here. If you own a PS2 you need Okami, its the law.
Shadow of the Colossus
ICO
Devil May Cry 1 and 3
Persona 3 and 4
Final Fantasy X
Pop Sands of Time
These may lower the fine of not owning Okami _________________

There are a couple of new copies of Okami at my EB store, so let me know if you struggle finding it. I could pick it up and send it to you if you covered the costs. _________________

I haven't had much time to play games recently due to work but here are all the PS2 games I've bought recently:
Persona 4
Persona 3
Digital Devil Saga 2
Digital Devil Saga 1
Devil May Cry 3 SE
Zone of Enders
Metal Gear Solid 3
Metal Gear Solid 2
God of War 2
God of War 1
Monster Hunter
Dragonquest: The Journey of the Cursed King
Final Fantasy XII
Final Fantasy X-2
Final Fantasy X
Kingdom Hearts
Kingdom Hearts 2
Odin Sphere
Valkyrie Profile 2; Silmeria
Naruto Ultimate Ninja 4
Naruto Ultimate Ninja 3
Guilty Gear X2 #Reload
Capcom VS. Snk 2
Tekken 5
Midnight Club 3 Remix
Burnout 3: Takedown
Gran Turismo 4
Guitar Hero 1-3
There is such a ridiculous amount of awesome games for the PS2 to try out.. I mean I've barely touched my 360/Wii since getting a PS2 again. _________________

In my opinion Persona 3 is the best choice as it has close to 40 hours of gameplay and it really sets itself apart from all the other Japanese RPGs so those hours will just fly by.
However Max Payne is a brilliant game that is worth playing more than once but the game itself is very short. So if your looking for bang for buck I would certainly reccomened Persona 3 especially the special edition Persona 3 FES. _________________

Got myself Canis Cadem Edit for $14.
Does anyone know if they have a Shadow Of The Colossus in one of their local EB's?
I wouldn't mind paying for postage and whatever. _________________
