Tekken Online Wall Of Shame:

Avoid playing these people if you value your sanity.

Link

Start talking.

The ‘Big News’ involving the console versions of Tekken 6 being hinted at by Namco-Bandai’s official Tekken 6 Twitter, Tekkenbob, and Tekken fansite SD Tekken have been revealed to be…

AN OFFICIAL RELEASE DATE! October 27, 2009!!! Wow… what a surprise. Oh well. At least it’s official. This is the US release date- Europe, Japan and Asia releases will follow shortly after.

AND..!

The Tekken 6 Limited Edition Bundle. The set includes a Hori Wireless Fight Stick, a collectible Art Book and of course, a copy of the game. The bundle will set you back $149.99.

And that’s not all! NO!

As for the The Cardboard Tube Samurai… well, it is apparently a special Yoshimitsu costume that’s part of a special ‘Samurai DLC pack’ which includes special ‘nobori’ or Japanese war flags as universal items for all characters. You get the Samurai Pack along with a Tekken 6 Calendar when you preorder the game from Gamestop. Oh, and this offer is exclusive to Gamestop. MEH.

Here's the bonus stuff you get when you Pre-Order with GameStop.

Pre-order

Pretty underwhelming news. But it's official now, time to preorder!

Lars Alexandersson has a special outfit designed by famed mangaka, Masashi Kishimoto of Naruto fame.

New outfit designed by CLAMP for Jin Kazama. Or should I say, Jin Vi Britannia!

New Zafina costume...*drools*

Zafina’s a dark fairy in her new exclusive console outfit.

Gamekyo just posted this juicy tidbit. A THIRD extra outfit has been revealed, this time for newcomer Zafina. The saucy ensemble appears to be composed of a butterfly bra top, hot-hot pants with a bangle belt and white go-go boots festooned with black roses. Now, I have no clue what the heck this is all about, but it looks… well… different.

The costume was designed by Mutsumi Inomata, a female designer at Namco-Bandai who also works on Namco’s Tales RPG franchise.
What can I say? Well, it kinda reminds me of Asuka’s Diceroller get-up from Tekken 5 in that it has some sort of insect and plant composing the outfit. Odd. Kinda cool.

It’s still three and a half months to release… maybe there’s… more? Anyway… check out the original article here.

Tekken 6 X TapouT: Fashionable Fighters!

Okay, we’ve all heard about the extra console costumes for Tekken 6 from CLAMP and the Naruto guy… but this bit of news actually has me even more excited for some reason.
Just announced at the ongoing San Diego Comic Convention 2009, Namco-Bandai and TapouT have come together to introduce a line of special T-shirts that will appear as Customization Items in the upcoming console versions of Tekken 6. The shirts will also be available in the real world this coming September.

Namco’s official Tekken 6 Twitter, TekkenBob just posted quite a few screens showing off several fighters sporting the slick new T-shirts, including Xiaoyu, Bryan Fury, both Kings and Marduk. Of course, it’s expected that the Tapout customs will be a common item for all the available fighters, and that this will be in the games by default, and not some crappy, exclusive DLC like that Yoshimitsu Cardboard Tube Samurai Getup.

“As we look to enhance brand visibility in new ways, the idea to fuse TapouT and ‘Tekken 6′ was the perfect approach to introduce new apparel to our core fan base,” TapouT President Marc Kreiner said.

I think this is pretty cool… I’ve always thought that Fighting Games are PERFECT, simply no-brainer ways for particularly edgy clothing brands to show off their lines to a young, very cutting-edge and connected audience. Game characters, particularly in Fighting Games, are the focus of their medium, and often sport idealized proportions (making them perfect fashion models) and have their own fans and followings. I’m surprised this isn’t even more prevalent.

Anyway, check out the screens of Tekken Fighters sporting TapouT apparel at Namco-Bandai’s FlickR Photo Album, right here. Man, I can’t wait to get Asuka into one of those hot shirts. Hey… why not link Tekken up with Victoria’s Secret..?

The deal is the first co-branding agreement Namco Bandai has struck with a major apparel company for in-game and offline gear. Tekken 6 will be released this fall for Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and the PSP system.

You can also check out this article for more details.

Tekken 6 Console: Scenario Mode Info, Battle Record… Tekken 7?

An interview with Namco-Bandai’s Katsuhiro Harada at Vandal.net, a spanish gaming site, revealed some tidbits about the upcoming Tekken 6 for consoles, specifically about the Scenario Campaign Mode. The site is in Spanish, of course, so I took the liberty to use Google Translate.

As we already know, Scenario Campaign is a new, online-capable minigame/mode in Tekken 6 that will allow players to take their favorite Tekken fighters out of the regular arena and battle hordes of enemies in expansive areas and stages. Fight money, customization items and real-time cutscenes are in store for players in this new iteration of the classic Tekken Force mode.

According to the interview, Scenario Campaign is designed to be played either though Offline Single Player or Online Cooperative Multiplayer, and that’s it. There is apparently NO Offline Multiplayer AKA two players playing together on the same console, on the same couch. If you’re alone and don’t have an good internet connection, you play with your chosen fighter and an A.I. controlled buddy. If you’re online-connected then you can play alongside someone from the other end of the world, with them controlling your fighter’s ally.

According to Harada, the mode was specifically designed this way since two players having to play together using one TV will inevitably require split-screen or always restricting freedom of movement for the characters. If you are playing with a friend online, they can be in another room or area while you are in another, with no such restrictions… since you are using two different TVs.

The interview goes on to mention that one of the options/features being worked on (not 100% confirmed, I guess) is the ability to record matches for uploading online, which then can be viewed or downloaded. YES!!!

Another feature being developed as well is Character Ghost Creation, how to record your match fighting style and use it in some way.

To end the interview, Harada mentions that he is indeed already thinking of the next Tekken, but it might actually not be called ‘Tekken 7′, just to change things up. Eh? Intriguing. Check out the original article here.

NEW Tekken 6 Screenies! CGI Footage!

“YOU JERK!!!” says Asuka to her now-evil cousin, Jin.

Watch-Impress of Japan just posted a HUGE article on the upcoming console versions of Tekken 6. Though it begins safely enough with the usual gaggle of info about the game and the limited edition bundles, some character profiles and game features… it suddenly astounds with some all-new screens, including some cool stills from the Scenario Campaign’s Intro CG Cutscene!

Lars begins his Bloody Rebellion.

Tekken Force troops gear for combat. Just what is in the Facility they’re attacking.

Firefights ensue as Rebel Tekkenshu take on Zaibatsu Regulars.

The so far unseen (except for some very brief glimpses) cutscene shows Lars Alexandersson (the mode’s default main hero) beginning his coup against the Mishima Zaibatsu; apparently with an assault on some hi-tech facility. Just what is in this base that has Lars interested? Methinks i know, but we’ll see. Anyway, awesome stuff!

All that plus yes, there even more screens of Scenario Campaign gameplay and pics of the extra console outfits for both Lars and Zafina.

Zafina’s new outfit in action.

Check out all the exciting goodies here!

Not something new, but maybe people missed this in the E3 Footage, I took some screenies of what the menu looks like. The background stages change randomly everytime.

10 Reasons Why Tekken 6 Is Gonna Kick Butt

What makes Tekken 6 THE Fighting Game of 2009?

I’ll say it once, I’ll say it again… Tekken 6 is awesome. This from someone who has been playing the arcade version for the past year and a half and STILL can’t get enough Iron Fist-Fighting. But as great as the arcade versions are, Tekken 6 is only going to get better as it arrives on consoles this October. Here are some reasons why.

Nancy’s Stage is exclusive to the console versions.

It’s the Ultimate Version.
Forget the outdated, unbalanced Tekken 6.0 (aka Vanilla). The home version of Tekken 6 will be based on the heavily rebalanced Bloodline Rebellion upgrade, including the two additional characters and all the new moves, animation tweaks, game balancing and TONS of new customizations that came with it. Above all that, there will be even more added content exclusive to consoles, including all the expected home-only modes of play, online play, even more customizations, new stages and all the trimmings and extras we’ve come to expect of Namco-Bandai’s overstuffed ports. AND then some.

The Biggest Roster Ever. At 40-odd characters, the Tekken 6 roster is the biggest the series has ever seen. But quantity means less quality, right? WRONG. With the exception of two characters (Christie and Panda) who share the same movelist with a male counterpart and a Mimic (Mokujin), every single fighter in Tekken 6 has their own unique and large movelist, combos, strategies, strengths, weaknesses, play style, personality, customizations and storyline. Whether you want to play as a rugged martial artist, hot babe, cyborg psycho, killer robot, old master or whatever- there’s probably a character to suit your style. Choose your Main and Train!

It’s Tekken… in HD. First off, if you haven’t seen Tekken 6 in the arcade… you haven’t seen it. Youtube videos or even the ‘high quality’ vids often seen online can’t do the game’s visuals justice. Often lost in the uploads are the great detail of the characters and stages. Almost always lost is the lush, rock-solid 60 frames per second animations.
Every fighter is exquisitely detailed, from head to toe, gums and teeth, fingernails, toenails to muscles and clothing. The Tekken crew has never looked hotter (for the babes) or uglier (for quite a few of the guys), and that’s in a good way.
But forget simple looks- Tekken team re-did pretty much every frame of animation in the game, making the game move slicker and cooler, more full and complete. From elaborate throws to rockin’ combos and satisfying knockout animations, to the realistic clothing animations… Tekken 6 is truly poetry in motion. Wait for this game- it’s what you bought that huge-screen HDTV for.

The kick-ass graphics and animations just may give you a black eye.

Full-featured Gameplay.
Your attention may be caught by the game’s awesome graphics, but it’s the gameplay and fighting action that will keep you coming back again and again. Let silly pundits say that Tekken 6 is all flash and no substance- nothing can be further from the truth. Tekken 6 is as deep and layered as a fighting game can get, with huge movelists, tons of combos, combo-extenders, Z-axis movement, counters and anti-counters, getup and ground games, juggles and interactive environments all coming into play. But anyone who can move a joystick and press a button can just jump in, pick up a move and combo or two, and start having fun. That’s how complete, deep and full a fighter Tekken 6 is. Anyone who says otherwise is wrong. Dead wrong.

Crazy Customizations. Who’s have ever thought that playing dress-up would be something macho guys and gamer dudes can get addicted to? Well, aside from racking up wins and getting that high rank, Tekken fans keep going back to arcades to pimp out their fighters with alternate outfits, wacky hairstyles and slick items. Does this pair of shorts make my Asuka look fat? Will Bob look more bad-ass with a gas mask or the hamburger hat?

Tekken 6’s Character Customization is pretty large, and every character has tons of stuff to use- but it’s not the same as Soulcalibur IV’s Character Creation. You can only go so far (no dressing down the babes to their undies, sadly) and every character has their own unique wardrobe, with various items common for all. But there are tons of ways to make your fighter unique-looking, and you’ll surely play a long, long time to unlock everything and spend even longer tweaking your character’s perfect look.

Samurai Asuka is one of the coolest alternate outfits in the game, but putting it together is gonna take a lot of fight money. So start training!

The Tekken Soap Opera.
Who Cares About the Story? GOBS of people do, believe it or not. Including ME. Well, at least in Tekken I do; this damn game has become the gamer version of Days of Our Lives. The home versions of Tekken 6 will the only places to go to find out stuff like WHY the freakin’ hell Jin Kazama became a world-class asshole. Or what newcomer Lars Alexandersson really wants to accomplish with his Bloodline Rebellion. Or if Leo really is a girl or not. We can count on the game to have tons of cutscenes, real-time or prerendered, to tell the whole story… as cool or as silly it eventually turns out to be.

Scenario Campaign may just be a glorified Final Fight… but it still looks damn fun.

A New Way to Play.
Tekken 6’s Scenario Campaign Mode is really just a flashy new name for the classic Tekken Force minigame, but damn if it doesn’t look fun as hell. Take your favorite fighter and a buddy (controlled by the CPU A.I. if you’re offline, or by a friend online) and go to town, beating up enemies left and right. Not only do you have your fighter’s full movelist, you can grab weapons and items to dish out the pain. Earn gold to buy customizations and unlock secrets, and learn more about the ongoing storyline via some real-time cutscenes.

The Hottest Babes. Yeah, yeah… every good fighting game has hotties. But Tekken 6 has more of them (count ‘em… nine!) and the best-looking thanks to the game’s gloriously-detailed HD graphics. Uber-beauties like Nina Williams, Lili Rochefort and Asuka Kazama have truly never looked as gorgeous as they do in the game. They’ve got the looks, the moves, the skills and even a little bit of teasing jiggle. We’ve got a hot date coming this October, and that’s a sure thing.

From martial arts cuties to Lethal Lolitas… Tekken 6 got the babes for you.

Hard-hitting Sounds. Tekken 6’s sounds are sure to make an impact, and not just for the return of the characteristically-quirky sound effects and character grunts. The music of the game is unique, merging odd J-Pop tunes and dramatic scores with some of the most unusual tunes you’ll hear from a fighting game. Who actually thought Yodeling would make a great backdrop for full-contact melee combat?

And last but not least… It’s REALLY Coming. The only other fighter that holds a candle to Tekken 6’s graphics, full-contact gameplay and outrageous customization is Virtua Fighter 5R, which while kick-ass as well… it so far still not announced for consoles, and we have no freakin’ idea if it ever will be.
For any fighting game fan serious about deep fighting and value for his buck, Tekken 6 is THE game. Forget everything else that has come before… the True King arrives with an Iron Fist this October.

Yet more intriguing Tekken 6-ness. TekkenBob and then SD-Tekken posted this unusual cartoon visual of Roger Junior giving the smackdown on what appears to be a rocket. What the big picture really is… we don’t know. But all will be made clear tomorrow… stay tuned then. For now, check out the full article over here.

Tekken 6 Screens, Video Preview at Gamespot

Gamespot just posted a bunch of new screenshots and art from our upcoming dream fighter, Tekken 6. The screenshots once again show off action from Scenario Campaign mode, which tends to have pairs of normally hostile rivals fighting together against some baddies. This time it’s Lei Wulong and Feng Wei dishing out the pain, in one screen notably against some much-too-unclad sumo wrestlers. Sumo wrestlers on the street? Well, it’s certainly nice to see enemy variety runs the gamut. Also included among the new screens are more pics of Zafina’s console-exclusive Butterfly Bra Outfit, both in-game and renders. The costume looks… nice. Still as gaudy as Asuka’s Diceroller was in Tekken 5… probably not what I’d pick for my own Zaf to wear.

Anyway, also up at Gamespot is a nice 3-minute or so Video Preview, complete with one of the snottiest-sounding english accented voiceovers EVER (it’s Gamespot UK, after all). The preview focuses a lot on the BR newcomers, Alisa and Lars, and shows off some gameplay. Overall it’s positive to a point, though with weird words like ’silly’ and ‘ridiculous’ being thrown in (albeit mostly positively).

Not included in the Video Preview (but included in the regular text preview) is some info about Katsuhiro Harada’s stance on DLC. As we’ve mentioned before, the Tekken 6 producer still firmly believes that when they ship the game, it’s a finished, stand-alone product with everything in the box from the start. He doesn’t want to suddenly follow it up with penny-pinching DLC crap (Capcom can learn a lot from this guy). So apparently there are no plans at present for any DLC. If there will be any additional costumes and stuff in the future, it will be FREE (well, we’ll see).

One last note- apparently Harada-san and team like the idea of guest characters in principle, but seem to be more receptive to adding in characters from other games within Namco-Bandai, as opposed to Soulcalibur bringing in guests from galaxies and franchises far, far away. But as of right now, no plans for any more fighters are underway. With less than three months to go… nah.

Anyway, check out the Gamespot stuff for now, as we’ve still got more than 80 days to go. Sigh…

Tekken 6 Cover Girl: Lili Rochefort in Girls of Gaming 7!

Lili (and some of the Tekken guys) take to the beach in the latest issue of Play’s videogame cheesecake mag.

SD-Tekken just posted this nice bit of info. The lovely, leggy Lili Rochefort is gracing the cover of Play’s Girls of Gaming Vol. 7. The blonde heiress from Monaco shows off her swimsuit body as well as a nice tan in a skimpy bikini, with some of the Tekken boys frolicking in the background. Perhaps yet another bit of marketing and buzz for the upcoming console release of Tekken 6 in a couple of months.

Well, what can I say? The artwork is quite nice, if a bit out of character for the usually demure Miss Rochefort… perhaps a more good girl pose and her usual complexion would make this more ‘official’-looking. A beach catfight with Asuka Kazama would have been even more awesome. Anyway, supposedly more Tekken babes (hopefully with more or less the same type of attire) are for the admiring inside the issue, but of course we won’t know that unless we get the mag, or if some nice guy posts scans online (heheh). I’ll keep my eyes out for it, in any case.

Man, how awesome would it be to have that bikini in the game… Harada-san? Hello… Heheh…

Anyway, check out SD-Tekken’s article and a larger version of the pic here.

Tekken 6 Console: New Console Outfits for Anna, Asuka

More outfits, More awesomeness for the console Tekken 6!

Jin, Lars and Zafina aren’t the only fighters getting extra costumes in the console versions of Tekken 6. At least Anna Williams and Asuka Kazama will be getting new threads. Nagano Mamoru (Five Stars Stories) has designed outfits for Anna and Asuka; Mamoru designed costumes for Tekken characters as well back in Tekken 5.

Anna’s outfit seems to be a return of her classic Zebra outfit from Tekken 3- it’s a haute couture ensemble with black-and-white patterns with accompanying hat. Meanwhile, Asuka’s new outfit is a short and sassy yellow dress with a scarf and thigh-high boots/leggings… perhaps something the trendy teen would wear in Tokyo?
Supposedly 3 more comic writers are designing new outfits for the console versions.

Man, this is great. Really, the Tekken team is totally throwing in so much goodies in the home versions… they seem to be going for some kinda record.

Tekken 6 at Gamescom ‘09

1Up just posted what I think to be the first actual footage of Tekken 6 on the PSP. The gameplay comes straight from the ongoing GamesCom 2009 event in Cologne, Germany. Well… as expected it certainly does NOT look as good as the arcade or big console versions of Tekken 6, but it certainly tries it’s best to emulate the original. It seems to have the same level of quality as Tekken Dark Resurrection, which is not bad at all. If the gameplay is accurate and the content all in… it’s still probably the most kick-ass fighter you’ll be able to carry along with you anywhere. Check out 1Up’s Tekken 6 PSP gameplay video.

Another awesome video posted is this Tekken 6 ‘Story Trailer’ for the big boys’ consoles versions. While a lot of it seems familiar, there are indeed a LOT of new elements in this almost 2-minute spot, showing off in-game action, customizations and cutscenes showing the ongoing plot- certainly worth downloading the HD version and picking at frame-by-frame to get everything in (which I’ll be sure to take up later). Check it out. Check it all out! Man, the last couple months of waiting is really gonna hurt.

Plus, new PSP screenshots! Check them out!

NEW Netcode!

Harada-san, the Tekken 6 director, took the stage at the Namco Bandai Gamecon conference today to talk about the upcoming PlayStation3, Xbox360 and PSP releases. Among other things he mentioned they rewrote netcode!

Taking Apart the Tekken 6 GamesCom 2009 Trailer

GamesCom 2009 brought us quite a lot of new Tekken 6 footage, but of course the most impressive is surely the new ‘Story’ trailer. The latest in a long line of spots, this video has everyting from in-game cutscenes to customizations, pre-rendered story vids and intriguing hints of the ongoing plot. So as we’ve got nothing better to do- let’s dissect this video and see what we can see in the frames…

The trailer starts off with pre-rendered footage of Jin on his VTOL (seen in previous trailers, but with fancy filters and slow motion), with the subtitled dialogue “Everything is in motion…” Yeah, he’s caused quite a bit of trouble, hasn’t he? Pretty impressive for a kid who once lived with his mama in a forest. A narrator continues speaking, relating the general Tekken 6 story- how the Zaibatsu has declared independence and war against the rest of the world. Accompanying footage is stuff we’ve seen to death already- Tekken Force saluting Jin, Nina in the ranks, etcetera.

The Scenario Campaign looks to be awesome if only for the in-game cutscenes that promise to tell a more detailed story than usual. Hopefully all the fighters will get the same treatment, and not just new Goldenboy Lars.

Then there’s in-game stuff- fighters squaring off. Same stuff we’ve seen in previous trailers. Jin’s “Power is Everything” line is hyped up. In-game action follows, with Jin, Kazuya and Lars kicking butt. We hear what may be Kazuya or Jin saying “You… I’m taking you down!” This is really a battle between these two, but the whole world is involved… talk about airing your dirty laundry in public. More in-game action continues, finally showing off new footage.
We then see Bryan and Nina squaring off in-game in the Urban Warzone stage. Both morph from their stock outfits to heavily-customized alternate costumes- Bryan looking like a Republic Clone Trooper while Nina gets red hair and a form-fitting racing suit. Bryan shows off his mini-gun (ooh, kinky). Nina also seems to have gotten a new intro quote, “This should be fun…” Never heard this before in the arcade.

Nicely enough, the trailer shows off several characters’ customizations, including Samurai Asuka, Kuma-Hei and Beast Form King.

As Bryan is blowing away Nina we heard some chatter on a radio with subtitles- apparently the Zaibatsu troops have lost a base to the ‘rebel army’ (obviously Lars’ forces). We then see CG pre-rendered footage of Lars himself, (seen before) kicking some Tekken Shu butt as we hear him tell someone they’re entering some G-Corporation Research Facility. We then see some cutscenes of Alisa’s ‘crib’. In-game footage from the Scenario Campaign pops up as Lars asks for back-up, which is promptly answered by Alisa’s voice. So, are Lars and Alisa a couple? What is their connection? Perhaps he is the one who initially awakens her?

We then hear Lars’ voice utter some pretty intriguing lines. “If I don’t stop Jin, there’ll be no going back.” Another voice, from an unknown character, replies, “What do you think he’s after?”
I can infer a few things from this exchange- one, Lars is apparently indeed a ‘good guy’, or at least he started his rebellion in order to stop Jin’s rampage. But the more intriguing part is that there is a bit of mystery still to the new Zaibatsu CEO’s actions- is Jin truly evil? Or is there something else afoot? Is there a plan somewhere that will explain all this? Something tells me not everything is what it seems.

We then hear Zafina (I think) say “Kazuya Mishima is on the move,” along with a cutscene (most probably from Scenario Campaign). “It’s the fate of our family to fight and betray each other.” is uttered by another voice- perhaps Kazuya or Lars. Ah, the life of a Mishima.

Christie’s story is a lot more serious and dramatic this time around… will there be a happy ending for the Capoeira Clan? Doesn’t look like it…

In game action follows, along with scenes from that much-used CG Jin-and-Kazuya fight on the rooftop. Man, the trailer editors really, really, really love that scene. Anyway some new in-game stuff is seen, like Alisa doing a cool throw on Marduk, and several heavily-customized fighters in action; Asuka in her full Samurai Warrior get-up, King in his beast form, Heihachi with his Kuma headpiece and war drums and a goat-faced Devil Jin. Nice to see Asuka doing her Sacred Bow attack as well.

More Scenario Campaign scenes as the narrator relates how G-Corporation put out the bounty on Jin’s head, then how the Tekken 6 Tournament was announced. Then pre-rendered CG cutscene snippets, some familiar, some new. We see more of a mourning Christie, this time with Eddy- is the Great Capoeira Master dead? Or is this a red herring? Then we see a brief scene with Anna and Nina, together yet NOT kicking each others’ butt… what’s that about? A voice (Heihachi?) says ominously, “The stage is set… now we wait.” Story of our lives, damn it.

Scenes like this just make you go ‘hmmm.’ The Williams’ sisters, together and NOT at each other’s throats??? A-mazing…

Has Jin really gone to the dark side? We’ll just have to fight our way to the ending to find out.

To close off the trailer we see Jin charging at Azazel as the words ‘Let’s put an end to this.” are uttered. Whoa.

TEKKENBOB Is Up To Something! Hmm…

@tekkenbob mentioned a new surprise on his Twitter… That “something” is coming to YouTube next week. The only clue he got was a “J vs B”… Are you wondering what it could be?!

Quote:
It turns out J vs. B is a big video project from Namco. I caught a sneak peek of some direct capture being taken from Tekken 6. Coming soon!

Pant Jizzing time peepz. Looks like something big is coming!

Here's more guys!

Quote:
"J vs. B", our secret video project, is coming up soon. For those of you that have wanted a chance to see more of the console version of Tekken 6, we're about to bring you brand new video content... with a twist! Stay tuned.

Wonder what it'll be? Online perhaps? Different modes? It'll be shown tomorrow!!!

Gamescom: Tekken 6 Impressions

Katsuhiro Harada, Namco Tekken 6 Project Leader, gave a presentation of Tekken 6 at Gamescom, revealing more about the Scenario mode in the game.

Tekken 6's Scenario mode is very much like a campaign mode of sorts. Gamers fight their way through different levels of constant brawling. It's reminiscent of a 3D platformer brawler, incorporating a story mode of sorts where gamers walk through forests, streets, or other types of scenarios and beat people up as they go.

The Scenario mode now comes in addition to the standard arcade mode that the game is known for and will also be the main mode in the title.

“Since Tekken 5, Western audiences haven't seen any new Tekken in a while,” Harada says. “Japanese audiences have enjoyed Tekken: Bloodline Rebellion, an arcade title, and Tekken 6 since then. This is the first time that Western audiences get to see Tekken 6.”

The new brawler and fighting game includes a lot of new game play mechanics previously not featured in a Tekken title, Harada adds. These include a new Rage system, where gamers can get extra power to their punches, destructible environments, and many other new additions.

The graphics engine has been completely overhauled and customisation has been greatly improved on the title. There are a ton of un-lockable options that release new customisation options, including some options to change certain fighting moves. The un-lockable options come in the form of treasure chests – rewards for players as they defeat enemies.

Un-lockable options can be passive or active. This means that they can increase the life of the character (passive) or give the character a new fighting move of sorts (active).

Tekken 6 opens up with a comic-book style introduction that takes gamers through all the details and story that has occurred from Tekken to Tekken 5. The Scenario mode has a ton of stages and looks like it will definitely give plenty of hours of gameplay.

When asked if the Scenario mode would include co-op play, since, as it is, the mode includes the player fighting alongside an AI character, Harada says that Namco are working on it but cannot confirm if they will include it in the final game. “We probably will, though.”

At the presentation, Namco also showed off its wireless fighting sticks for Tekken 6. Serious fans will probably want to take a good look at these.

‘J VS B’ Revealed: Tekken 6 Direct-feed Match Videos

SD-Tekken and Namco Bandai have revealed their latest marketing gimmick for the upcoming Tekken 6. Teased since last week, it has turned out, as expected, to be several match videos between high-level Tekken players Jimmy “MrNAPS” Tran and Bronson “insanelee” Tran (J VS B), with each one representing either SD-Tekken and Tekken Zaibatsu (aren’t they one and the same?). The matches are direct-feed recordings from the console versions. so I guess this is a good way to see how nicely the conversion has come along. An extra schtick is that fans and viewers on SD-Tekken can apparently vote for which character ‘Insanelee’ will select for the upcoming rematch.

New Tekken 6 Preview, Promo Video

Asuka falls for Lili’s Imp Shorts Item Move.

Japanese gaming sites Famitsu and 4Gamer.Net just posted cool previews of the upcoming home versions of Tekken 6. The lengthy article talks a bit about the default Arcade Mode and the new elements of gameplay such as Bound, Rage and Item Moves. There are then some cool new screenshots and some character bios (with accompanying CG portraits) to round things out. As well as showcasing in-game footage of the console version.

Here’s a look at the Japanese Collector’s Edition Package. I WANT THAT ART BOOK…

Also included is a new PV or promotional video. The vid is mostly stuff seen before, but there are bits of new footage of combos and the Scenario Mode in action, all with your usual enthusiastic Japanaese announcer and lots of kanji supers flying around. Still worth seeing, in any case… check it all out here and here.

Tekken 6 Console Footage! 720p 60FPS!

Just found these guys. Direct footage of Tekken 6, running at 1280*720 and 60FPS. This is the best we can get so far. So savor the moment. It will still look better on your console, no video can be true to a video game. You can either stream it or download it. The files are pretty big though. I HAD to cap my net now didn't I....

Check it all out here!

New Tekken 6 Magazine Scans: Game Modes, Replay Data Saves?

The first scan seems to show off stuff about the VS, Training and Survival Modes.

Just found a couple of intriguing scans from a Japanese gaming mag about the upcoming console versions of Tekken 6. Posted on a Japanese game blog, the scans show some intriguing stuff, including finally some looks at the more nitty-gritty elements of play- VS Mode, Survival and Practice Modes.

Apparently if you haven’t been keeping up-to-date on the twisting and turning Tekken storyline, you can review the events that have been occuring since the first game right up to the latest chapter via a nicely-illustrated Journal.

There is an intriguing mention of a Replay Data Save, but I can’t say for sure what it’s about. Is this finally confirmation of a match replay/record feature?

Unfortunately as cool as it all is… it’s all in Japanese so anyone who can read kanji, please step up.

What’s this part about? Customizations? Or something more?

Check out the full scans here and here. Man, NOW we’re talking. I really hope there’s solid info on gameplay and features in these scans, and hopefully we’ll see this in videos and previews as we get closer and closer to release.

For better pictures and translated, click here

It's confirmed guys, saving matches is in, at least for VS Mode for now.

Tekken 6 Console: Asuka and Anna Extra Outfit Pics!

Killer costumes for the console.

What a nice little treat to find! Game site Widgamer(and PALGN icon_razz.gif) just posted a bunch of pics and art showing off the console exclusive extra outfits for Asuka Kazama and Anna Williams. Not only do we get nice views of these designer threads, there are also some in-game screens showing the ladies kicking butt in their stylish new outfits. Not only do these pics show off extra costumes, it just gives us a nice feel of how great the graphics in the home versions are coming along… hot!

Asuka’s chic casual outfit is pretty hot, characterized by a cute, poofy scarf and a pair of hot, high-heeled, pointy-toed boots. It’s a nice change for this martial arts tomboy, who’s usually dressed in a gi or more traditional duds.

Anna’s returning zebra-striped ensemble has never looked better or more fetching for PETA protests, finished off with some saucy open-toed platform shoes (nice nail polish…).

Check out three pages of coolness here. Man, seeing these outfits just made me hope there are a few more for some of the other fighters. Certainly Lili or Nina should have some new costumes as well to match their rivals? Well, anyway… a couple more reasons to make our mouths water for the impending console releases.

Musing About Tekken 6 Console: Getting Real with Scenario Campaign

Is the Tekken Force strong with this one?

I’ve been reading a lot of talk concerning the new Scenario Campaign mode in the console versions of Tekken 6, so I’ve decided to talk about it at length.

One of the things of concern is the graphics, which are a bit of a downgrade from the main game. In fact, the weird thing is some morons take a look at Scenario and are judging the whole game by that. Really, it’s a Bonus Game Mode, an extra that the devs were nice enough to throw into the package. Yes, the enemies aren’t as detailed as the main fighters, but they don’t need to be. What’s more important I think is the variety- with Tekken 6’s tons of customizations, I hope they really go to town with making lots of enemy models. Or maybe even let us customize enemies?
Bottom line is, the graphics aren’t as good as the main game, but they’re not horrible, nor is that the point. The focus in Scenario Campaign is the bigger scale, so it’s better to see more enemies and fast action than a more detailed, close-in look which is reserved for the actual one-on-one fighting arena.

Next up is the gameplay. Will the hybrid gameplay work? Or will running around and then ‘locking’ into enemies going to be clunky? Looking at the gameplay clips so far, this will probably have hits and misses. I think we’ll probably have our share of having some trouble with little spots- we’ll probably get mobbed a lot, lock into an enemy when we don’t want to or such. But still, just having your character’s full move list to use in a context outside the arena is pretty cool. That alone makes the return of Tekken Force awesome.

Lastly, does Scenario Campaign replace Story Mode? Purists may squeal, but we have to look at the PROS as well. It’ll be similar to the Choose Your Own Path story mode in Soul Calibur III, which was pretty cool. The devs have put a lot into this minigame in effort and content supposedly, and that should count for something. At the very least there should be more story-content to find; at least more than the previous two cutscenes and one CG ending in Tekken 5. I will surely enjoy seeing the real-time cinematics, with my customized characters interacting.

I really hope Namco did their homework and really get into the stories- I fully expect every character to have several cutscenes, fully animated with voiced dialogue. They’ve had quite some time to really flesh out the many plotlines, but how deep will it go? Will every fighter have their own reasons for going all over the world beating up mobs of enemies, or will they all just follow one basic plot? From what I can tell though Scenario Campaign will start off initially with just Lars selectable, and you open up characters for use here as you encounter them in the game. For those who were antsy about there being no more unlocking of characters, Scenario mode may be a treat for you.

So in the end if Story Battle really is gone, no biggie for me. Arcade Mode, Ghost Battle and Time Attack will be there for those who just want a straight-up ladder of foes. Perhaps Scenario will be a better way to tell the story, perhaps not. But let’s give it a chance.

Scenario Campaign may either end up as being pretty cool and revered like the classic Tekken Force, or it may become a sore spot like Chronicles of the Sword from Soul Calibur III. But for me at the very least it’s a nice way of seeing your fighters duking it out in a much larger setting, showing that the Tekken world is more than just the small square arena. In this, at the very least it surpasses the previous Tekken Force and breaks new ground. So let’s give it a fair shot when Tekken 6 comes out in late October.

Tekken 6: Comparing Console Versions, Bits and Pieces

Gamereactor just posted an article showing off screens from both the PS3 and Xbox360 versions of Tekken 6, to compare and see which port comes out on top. Check out here to see for yourself which comes out on top. No, go on, check it out now.

Back? Well, it’s quite obvious… BOTH versions rock. Both versions look pretty much identical, though differences will probably crop up once players actually have their copies; perhaps one will load a bit faster than the other, perhaps one will run smoother, and so on. But aside from those nits, both will most assuredly look, play, sound and have the same content- same customizations, same outfits, same roster, same extras and modes.

Plus, both are slated to come out on the same days as well, so really… it’s time to just stop all the bickering about how the PS3 should only have the game or that the Xbox360’s game is better or that the development was slowed down by the Xbox port, etcetera, etcetera. Let’s all just be happy that there will be more people playing the game, more to rave about it and hopefully more Tekken to come in the near future (hopefully not entailing the same excruciating wait as this one gave us).

That said, a little nice sidenote- Tekken 6 Bloodline Rebellion is once again, the TOP arcade game in Japan’s arcades, as per Arcadia Magazine’s October listings. MAN, will this game ever quit? It looks like it’s gonna stay on top for the whole year.

Lastly, Namco-Bandai’s lineup at this year’s Tokyo Game Show will include Tekken 6… well, DUH. Anway, this show closes up the month and will hopefully feature another cool trailer and more footage of the many modes that characterize the home versions. Also, more info on the release of the PSP version may be made available.

Anyway, the home versions though are still slated this November 2009. September’s pretty much half done, people. We’re getting there. Getting there. Sigh.

Asuka Kazama Customization Blog

Kicking butt in style.

Here’s a little something nice particularly for fans of Tekken 6’s beautiful Kazama-ryu fighter, Asuka Kazama. It’s Asukasu, a blog dedicated to the martial arts babe, which has a bunch of cool pics. This includes a look at all of Asuka’s default P1 and P2 color variants, which I don’t believe has been posted anywhere else. For the most part, the blog seems to regularly post new batches of pics, showing off Asuka modelling various configurations of her customizations, as well as various hairstyles. It’s a nice place to check out to see what you’d want (or not want) to dress up your own Kazama-ryu Heroine once you get your copy of Tekken 6 in several weeks. If you don’t have anything better to do as you wait for our big-name brawler, check it out...BOOBS!!

Kayne West and Tekken

New Tekken 6 Screenshots

Gamespot of Japan and Inside Games Japan just posted another preview on Tekken 6 for consoles, putting up a bunch of screenshots and art. Most of it has been seen before, though some in very low quality pics, so it’s nice to see stuff in better res now. It’s mostly screens about the home version modes- VS, Practice and Survival, along with some better quality shots of the stylish illustrations that start off Scenario Campaign. Plus some bits of character customization, including Asuka and Anna’s extra outfits once again.

In short, it’s the usual periodic update on Tekken 6 that the Japanese game sites seem to do every so often, but this time without much totally new stuff. Still, something to see for now as we await the next, and last perhaps, big event for Namco to show off their game- Tokyo Game Show 2009.

More as we get it then, but for now check out the screens here.

Sony Day Tekken 6 Videos

Here’s a brief… as in PAINFULLY BRIEF look at Team Battle Mode in the console version of Tekken 6, as seen at a recent Sony Day event (so obviously this is from the PS3 version). Glad to see it’s in there. I’d think that, like in T5/DR, characters will have what customizations you assign to them from the Customize mode, wherever it is. Anyway, there are quite a few VERY SHORT Tekken 6 vids being posted on Youtube- hopefully we’ll see more and longer soon. For now, check it out. What the heck.

Marry Me!!! Lili Extra Outfit in Tekken 6!

Lili Rochefort shows off her console-exclusive extra costume.

The latest issue of Japanese manga publication Ultra Jump just revealed another wonderful reason to await the upcoming console version of Tekken 6 next month… another extra outfit for a fan favorite fighter. This time, the costume is for leggy lolita Lili Rochefort (WOOHOO!). A flowing veil and embroidered lace combine with white leather and some oddly-arousing chains and shackles for what is easily the flashiest and most eye-popping extra outfit yet revealed. All I can say is… GIMME. This costume was apparently designed by manga artist Ryoji Minagawa, known for his work in Spriggan and Project ARMS. Check out a larger version of the pic here.

Looking at the overall design, I find myself thinking that Lili would look totally perfect as Jin’s Bride if he wore his CLAMP-designed extra outfit… I wonder…

In case someone cares, Roger Junior also seems to get a new outfit, inset in the photo wearing an Alex skull and what appears to be a footman’s outfit; perhaps as an attendant to the Bride?

Man, what else can pop up as we count down the last several weeks to release?

Hands-on with Console Tekken 6

Tekkenzone.net had a recent run-in with the home version of Tekken 6 (Xbox360) and had some comments about this more advanced build of the game.

Apparently they saw what was supposedly the full Opening Intro, and it is unsurprisingly composed of stuff that has been seen before (Zafina opening her temple doors, Bob vs bank robbers, the Tekken Force in the snowfield, etc) along with new animations (Zafina and her camel…?). They remarked though that one of the new stuff was Paul fighting Bryan, which isn’t really new- just stuff they apparently didn’t see in the US trailers.

As the game started up, the text ‘Looking for Downloadable Content’ kept appearing, so there may be indeed DLC in the future, even if at present none are being planned or announced.

The Main Menu has become a lot fuller since the E3 build (unfortunately they do not elaborate on all the items), with stuff divided in categories such as Offline and Online modes. The right side of the screen at the main menu now has a panel showing player rank, gold and achievements to date.

Loading times were, as seen in recent videos, long. However, the Namco-Bandai officials did say that installing the game to the HD will fix this.

Though still unfinished, the final Scenario Campaign mode will comprise of 42 levels.

The wireless stick will apparently require 2 AA batteries. Woohoo.

Apparently you can pretty much ‘create your own character’ with the large amount of customizations. No word on the actual interface, but I hope they improve this over the arcade version (which didn’t let you see the customizations before you bought them, etc.

- The Wireless Arcade Stick needs 2 AA batteries.
- The Intro has gotten some new scenes, like Zafina with a camel and Miguel before the accident.
- In the beginning, it checks for DLC
- The Main Menu has changed. It now has an info-panel on the right side. It keeps track of recent changes like: ''Lars promoted to 9th Kyu etc''.
- Scenario Campaigns will feature 42 levels.
- The loading times are longer, but it wasn't installed to the hard drive.

For the entire thing, click here.

Tekken 6 Console: J VS B, The Rematch!

The second set of match videos between players Insanelee and Mr. Naps has been posted over at SD Tekken and Namco-Bandai’s official Youtube page. This time around Insaneless is using Nina Williams, while Naps has opted to use Lars Alexandersson. Once again, it’s something to see to pass the time, but I really wish they had customizations at least, or 3-round matches… or freakin’ team battle! Really now… you already have the darn game, why not push the envelope. Sigh.

Anyway, TGS is just around the corner, so expect a bit of stuff to come up from there- at least a new trailer, and hopefully more footage of the many modes and customizations. Also, SD-Tekken has once again hinted at a ’surprise’ coming later this week, so just stay tuned.

IGN BLOG: More Limited Edition Info On Art Book & Fighting Stick!

The TEKKEN 6 IGN Blog has been updated! Series producer Katsuhiro Harada shares his thoughts on two compelling pieces included in the Limited Edition of TEKKEN 6!

Most of the IGN TEKKEN Blog focused on the wireless fighting stick, but there were some new images from the artbook as well. Here is what Harada had to say about the bundled arcade stick!

"Hello Harada here again. Thought I‘d take this opportunity to do a quick post before TGS to talk about our limited edition wireless Tekken 6 fight stick bundle which includes a really nice 95 page hardcover art book (check out some of the images below) and a copy of the game. So here we go…

Many hardcore fighting game fans already own several sticks, and there are so many on the market with similar features, you may feel you don’t need another. Many people play current generation hardware with wireless controllers and don’t notice any problems with response time. The cord on a fighting stick is comparably quite a hassle; especially in recent years, since TVs have gotten larger, putting players further away from the screen.

The Tekken team determined that players should have a reliable fighting stick without cords, different from others on the market, which could be used with all of their favorite games.

We consulted with HORI about the stick and things really took-off from our first meeting, and we decided to move forward with development.

Our arcade stick and button specifications were given to HORI, along with the lever/button layout, stick height and other information so they could match it. We were also determined to make the wrist rest portion of the stick as comfortable as possible based on experience with other sticks.

When making the decision to create a wireless stick, we wanted to ensure signal delay would never be a problem. We had several hardcore players play numerous fighting games with both wired and wireless sticks, and none could tell a difference. Success! Check out the stick specs for the PS3 and Xbox 360 version:

PS3 Wireless Stick Spec

• The first wireless PS3 arcade stick on the market
• 8 button layout / Arcade style joystick and buttons
• Integrated 2.4 GHz high-performance wireless technology for seamless game play
• Licensed Tekken 6 artwork used on the plate design.
• Transmission Range: Up to 32 feet
• Battery life: Up to 40 hours on two AA batteries
• Weight: Less than 2 ½ pounds
• Maximum number of sticks: 7 (when using USB Hub)

X360 Wireless Stick Spec
• The first wireless Xbox360 arcade stick on the market
• 8 button layout / Arcade style joystick and buttons
• Integrated 2.4 GHz high-performance wireless technology for game play
• Licensed Tekken 6 artwork used on the plate design.
• Integrated headset port allowing chat via Xbox LIVE
• Transmission Range: Up to 32 feet
• Battery life: Up to 40 hours
• Weight: Less than 2 ½ pounds
• Maximum number of sticks: 4

Pretty interesting info, right? The convenience of a wireless stick will be noticeable immed

Japanese Tekken 6 Site Update: Extra Costumes

A look at Lili’s extra outfit- one hell of a wedding dress!

The Japanese official Tekken 6 site has just updated the ‘Game System’ and ‘Special’ sections, with the updates devoted to the console-exclusive extra outfits. The Game System section has all of the so-far released new duds grouped with their artwork/design and some info, leaving just one more costume left to be revealed.
The ‘Special’ section has an actual video feature posted (you’ll need Windows Media Player to view it). Running at three and a half minutes, the vid apparently shows the two mangaka who designed Roger and Lili’s extra costumes engaging in several matches, each using their corresponding character wearing the new outfits. Lili ended up winning the final match, and well… her scandalous wedding outfit is sure to be a favorite. Man, the cloth covering her breasts seems like they can be dislodged by a breeze… heheh. The vid ended with some promo material on the game.

Anyway, these are nice little tidbits- so far my favorite of the extra outfits is without a doubt Lili’s. Who’s the last character to get cool new clothes? Stay tuned, we’ll find out soon enough.

One more extra outfit to go… but for whom?

Tekken 6 Hands on Impressions at 1Up, Gamespot

Good news for those waiting for news about the handheld version of Tekken 6. 1Up and IGN have just posted Hands-on Impressions of the PSP Tekken 6, and it sounds pretty good. Not just positive, but good. All the fighters are available, and apparently the character models were created from scratch for the portable making the transition pretty excellent. Check out the report here and here. Looks like I’d better have my PSP fixed soon, so I can enjoy what should be the best handheld fighter yet, and that’s saying something with T5DR and Soulcalibur BD already on the device. Awesome!

Here are a couple of cool PSP gameplay videos. I have to say, while the action is certainly looking true to Tekken 6, the visuals are really a big downgrade from the console versions- in fact, this is almost DR with Tekken 6 outfits/customizations and moves. In particular, Asuka Kazama looks a lot like her DR model. The graphical limitations aside, this is shaping up to be an awesome treat for those who want to have their T6 fix on-the-go.

Tekken 6 PSP Gameplay 1
Tekken 6 on PSP!

Tekken 6 PSP Gameplay 2

With customisations!

Meanwhile, Gamespot also posted a hands-on report on the console versions, particularly going through the Scenario Campaign (which now had all characters selectable) and mentioning all the developments since they last saw the game. According to the article, you may face not just one but two bosses/regular roster fighters at the end of a stage (they cited facing off with King and Marduk in a ring). Also, if your companion is knocked out you can revive them with healing items or power ups. Pretty cool!

Check out their article here.

Here’s another Tekken 6 interview at TGS, from a site called GamingAhead. The interviewer actually asked some pretty good questions, so this is worth seeing. Anyway, things made clear again on Scenario Campaign- there will be one basic storyline that every character follows, but with small differences per character. Co-op play is ONLINE ONLY. The mode takes about ten hours to complete (Is that per character? 400 hours of replay value? WOW). Anyway, good stuff!

Final Tekken 6 Extra Outfit Revealed…

MarkMan of SD-Tekken finally gave out this cool scan of the last console exclusive outfit in Tekken 6. The only problem is… I don’t know who the heck it’s for! Can anyone tell? Anyway, the artwork/design of this awesome-looking mech suit was done by manga-ka Takayuki Yamaguchi, who created the titles Apocalypse Zero and Shigurui.

Awesome outfit… but whose is it?

Anyway, I can tell it’s for a male fighter at least… which means I don’t really care who it’s for… but it’s pretty bad-ass. Can’t wait to see it in action.

Tons o’ Tekken 6 Screenshots: Customizations and Cutscenes

Ever the bad-ass, Kazuya can afford to change hairstyles in the middle of a battlefield.

PS3 IGN has just posted a gazillion (well, it feels like that) Tekken 6 screenshots. These are a real treat since most of them show off the game’s various customization items (as well as the new interface for Character Customization in the consoles) as well as cutscenes from the Scenario Campaign mode.

Plots intertwine as Lars makes his way through the Scenario Campaign story…

Nice way to calm a lady, Lars. Next, tell her Santa’s not real, why don’t ya?

Well, I am really overjoyed that we’ll be able to see what we want to buy first with our hard-earned Fight Money, particularly now that apparently we’re going to have to pay full price (in the arcades, items cost half that of the prices in Japan). There looks to be tons of stuff to buy and unlock- conceivably it will take hours and hours of play to buy them all, but completists and OC players will welcome the challenge.

As for the cutscenes, they look as good as you can expect from real-time stuff, and it seems that Lars will run through the rest of the roster, either chatting with them or encountering them in a combat situation as he goes through his story. I’m hoping that everyone gets to have some good cutscene exposure in their runthroughs of scenario, and not just Mr. Alexandersson. Cross your fingers.

Anyway, check out the mess of screenshots here!

Awesome Tekken 6 Preview! Tons o’ Footage!

There’s been a bit of a shortage of Tekken 6 news lately, but that’s gonna change with this awesome find!

This preview’s so bright, gotta wear shades!

Italian gaming site Spaziogames has just posted a 7-minute video feature on the game, showing off a lot of never-before-seen CG footage, cutscenes and gameplay. The included scenes are taken from Tekken 6’s final Opening Intro, showing off character scenes aplenty.

Only Lili can pull off Cute AND Sinister.

Also on offer are tons of in-game footage, showing off various menus, various modes (Arcade, Time Attack, VS, Survival, Practice, Time Trial) and even showing Zafina’s weird extra outfit in action. So far what I’ve seen… No Story Battle. The old-style combo practice dots are back. Lots more!

It’s easily the most eye-opening Tekken 6 preview yet, and has OODLES of stuff and details that any Tekken 6 fan would want to pick apart and enjoy at his leisure as we labor our way to October 27. Check it out here in SD, HD or downloadable format!

Buy Tekken 6 or I’m gonna kick your butt!

Bringing up the rear is a video interview with the Tekken 6 developers conducted by G4TV’s Morgan Webb at the recently-concluded TGS2009. It focuses more on the PSP version of Tekken 6, and talks a bit about the game’s Ghost Character System. Check it out here.

WHEW! Awesome! Thanks to SD-Tekken for the heads up!

Wanna see the Tekken 6 Console Intro?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXeRvHevKGg

Yep, after the big peek we got at the SpazioGames Tekken 6 Preview, it was really only a matter of time before the whole intro got exposed. IGN has posted the console versions’ Opening Cinematic for all to see. Running at almost 3 minutes, the intro surely keeps up the series’ tradition of awesome, cutting-edge pre-rendered cinematics that get you pumped up for the countless hours of fighting gameplay ahead.

What can I say? I freakin’ LOVE it. The quality of the CG is remarkable and the various vignettes and scenes are exciting and dramatic, focusing on select characters and showing their motivations for this new tournament. The music is more understated instead of the previously crass (but admittedly entertaining) ‘Sparking’ song in Tekken 5. Many may miss the ‘all characters mucking for the camera’ parade and seeing their particular fighter in action. Otherwise though, it’s yet again another cool and awesome opening to a Tekken game. What do you guys think?

Also, IGN has posted a new preview of the game, mostly talking about the Scenario Campaign. Check it out here.

Tekken 6 Facebook Questions and Answers!

Some time ago, Namco-Bandai asked Tekken fans through their official Facebook account to field various questions concerning the upcoming console versions of Tekken 6. Well, here are the first batch of answers to some of those questions, straight from the Project Tekken team!

1. What improvements have you made for the online mode of Tekken 6? Can you tell us the details? Has there been any improvements to latency issues players experienced in T5R Online and even Soul Calibur 4?
We completely rewrote the netcode this time so it is different from Tekken 5 DR. I would say the performance is better than before.
Generally speaking, for online fighting games, most netcode is tuned to either provide a stable game for various connections of differing quality or on providing a better experience for matches in which the connection compatibility is better than average. The latter approach seems to be more popular among fighting game fans.

2. There is concern that the Xbox 360 controller will not be sufficient enough due to the unresponsive D-Pad. As members of the development team…is there something you can tell the Xbox 360 owners to ease their anxiety?
First, I want everyone to understand we only make the software, there isn’t much software-wise that we can do about hardware already on the market. For Tekken 6, there will be a bundle that includes a wireless fighting stick, and we also have plans for a licensed wired fighting stick with Hori. The Tekken franchise was born in the arcades, so we would like to recommend the fighting sticks to fans, rather than fuel discussion about the merits/demerits of the D-Pad.

3. Is there an optional installation feature to speed up loading process?
We plan to include this feature.

4. There is info out on some sites that the resolution for Tekken 6 will only be in 720p. Why not 1080p?
Tekken 6 is the first fighting game to implement variable animation blur to the character models while still maintaining 60 frames per second, making the animations smooth and dynamic. As such, this requires a lot of processing power. Besides that, other aspects of the game have changed quite a bit from Tekken 5 DR, requiring more processing power on that front as well.

90% of games today, meaning most of them, run at 30 frames per second. If it were OK for Tekken to run at 30 fps, it would be easy to increase the resolution to 1080p. There is more time for processing as a result. One shouldn’t be so quick to judge resolution of 30fps and 60 fps games on the same scale.
I don’t think there are many fans out there who would want to play a 3D fighting game running at 30fps. On the dev team, we’ve tested this several times and the results were extremely poor. Rather than resolution, character animation and the frame rate are the most important aspect of a 3D fighting game; this is the conclusion we reached.

5. How many minutes of CGI footage have been created thus far for the story mode of Tekken 6?
There are also a lot of real-time movies in addition to the CG. The total minute number is a secret.

6. Will in-engine graphics be used for character endings, ala Tekken 4?
The character endings aren’t done using the in-game engine. The real-time demos in Scenario Campaign are done using the in-game engine, though.

Didn’t see your question answered? The devs will be answering more questions in the weeks leading up to the game’s release, so maybe they’ll have what you want in the next batch.

Tekken 6 Console: Getting into Gallery Mode

Hey, King, what’cha watching?

There’s a bit of wailing and wringing of hands these days with graphics nutters going all ape-shit with resolution issues on the console versions. Sub-HD aside, there are things that the home games have which make them far and away better and more desirable for me than any arcade version. One of these is the Gallery Mode, and the tons of stuff you can watch in it that you’ll never see in your public playhouse. Thanks to the screenie we found over at Tekken Nation, we got a better peek at what we can expect to find in this section of the game. SPOILER WARNING!

Movie Theater will give you access to the Opening Intro (which every Tekken fan has probably watched to death by now). Here’s also where you get to watch the 40+ CG Endings for the fighters. Yes, the standard CG character epilogues are back, and from the few glimpses of a few screencaps online they look to be as gorgeous as the Intro in quality and detail.

I assume Prologue is where we are shown the backstories of each of the fighters, all illustrated nicely with some sexy full-color artwork. Some Prologue art screens have leaked online, and they look brilliant. In terms of the story mode, I’m kinda worried that the interlude cutscenes from Tekken 5 may be gone, but maybe they’re still in there somewhere.

Scenario Campaign Prologue starts off the console versions’ new major mode, and should include an illustrated history of the Tekken storyline. The meat of this though is, as far as I know, a very lengthy pre-rendered CG movie showing Bloody Rebel Lars Alexandersson and his troops breaking into a high-security Zaibatsu installation. According to IGN, the intro is pretty over-the-top, with the Swedish Supersoldier punching RPGs in the face. This prologue supposedly runs for more than 15 minutes- so break out the popcorn for the first time you play SC.

Scenario Campaign Cinematics surely stands for all the storytelling moments we’ll be treated to as Lars and Alisa encounter the rest of the Tekken 6 population all over their lengthy adventure. How many is unknown, but we can expect at least every single fighter to appear in at least one cutscene so there may literally be dozens to watch. I expect a few will be your standard Lars meets So-and-So, exchange a line or two, then Lars and So-and-So FIGHT. However, some may be a bit meatier- such as Lars’ meeting with Wang, as they apparently discuss issues such as human-robot sex (I’m kidding, of course). Another cool scene hinted at is a meeting with Raven and Nancy, which should make fans of the Ninja Snipes cheer in glee.
I’m hoping that, since these cutscenes are in real time, that you can eventually customize the characters in them as you please. Since a dramatic confrontation is all the more exciting when everyone’s wearing HOT PINK.

Alisa’s Journal has been glimpsed in a few vids- the robotic Russian hottie seems to be part chronicler and tutor as you move through Scenario Campaign, so things should be easy to keep track of.

Credits will let us look through all the names of the Project Tekken team, perhaps scrolling by with cool music and the game’s artwork. Good for one watch and then to be skipped over forever more.

And finally, there’s Replay. Here’s where you’ll find your saved matches. I’m not sure if you can save data from every mode- at the very least you can save VS matches (offline and online), but it would be cool if you can also record footage from Ghost Battle, Time Attack or Time Trial or even Arcade or Practice as well.
What can you do with the data replays? Can you adjust or change views? Switch character costumes? Turn the blur on or off? Fast forward, pause and rewind? Can you output the replays as video files? Since this is data, the matches will be played back using the in-game engine so these options should be available. Hopefully the devs put a lot into this, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

WHEW! So much stuff. We’re all plainly gonna have tons of fun with the eye candy in the console versions. For now, keep yourself occupied with something as we excruciate towards release day- if you can, avoid spoiler screens and vids which are sure to pop up along the way. Just a little bit more waiting to go, people!

King of Iron Fist Tournament turns GOLD!

Okay, fight fans… it’s in the bag. Namco-Bandai just announced that their flagship fighting sequel, Tekken 6, is DONE. Development’s over, and now it’s time for production! Everything is set for the game’s release on November 5th. Anyway, also newly-revealed are the game’s full suite of online play features!

With full support via PlayStation Network and Xbox Live online game service, TEKKEN 6 online features include:
• Ranked Match and Player Match: Rank up or work to improve your fighting skills by battling opponents worldwide in online versus mode with voice chat functionality;
• Data Upload & Download: Create and upload customised ghost characters which accurately replicate your fight style. Any player in the world can download your ghost to take on your virtual self in a one-on-one battle even when you’re not online. Upload replays of killer matches to share with friends and opponents around the world.

Scenario Online Co-op
• New feature coming this winter as a free post-launch downloadable update;
Jump into intense two player online co-op campaigns against AI controlled enemies and experience the dramatic large-scale action with friends around the globe.
• Leaderboards
• Battle Points: online only, split between World, Asia, America and Europe;
• Rank: overall on and offline ranking, from Beginner to TEKKEN God;
• Additional rankings include Ranked Match, Scenario Campaign, Time Attack and Survival.

Players will be able to start trading blows to the face and neck in order to compete for the international title of Tekken God at the end of the month.

WOOHOO! I particularly like the ability to create your own Ghost A.I. and upload/download matches. Awesome! Plus, it looks like Namco-Bandai is throwing support behind the game even well after release. Stupendous!!! Not too long now, people. The game is finished, and we’re truly on our last leg of waiting. What a great way to end the week!

Tekken 6 Trophies Revealed

Tekken 6 Preview: Scenario Campaign Intro, Gameplay

Well, here’s yet another video preview of the game from Multiplayer. It, and although it’s in Italian you don’t really need to understand what the voice over is saying to enjoy a nice long look at the Scenario Campaign Mode’s action-packed intro movie. Check it out!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMYHXyBZitc&feature=player_embedded

Lars and company in action!

Fortunately they don’t show too much, but just enough to whet our appetites. It looks like SC is going to be a pretty meaty romp that should excite gamers who enjoy the Tekken storyline. I can’t wait to get into it.

Tekken 6 Console Screencaps!

SD-Tekken has just posted two batches of too-cool screencaps from the console versions of Tekken 6. Taken right from their review copies of the game, the screens show samples of menu screens, snippets of the intro, various modes, story mode prologue art and even a few bits of ending cinemas! Nothing too spoilerific, anyways. Check them out if you haven’t already here.

As part of the best and biggest Tekken fan site online, SDT’s MarkMan and Castel have even been honored as well by Namco-Bandai with places in the game credits. Too awesome! As for the (much-delayed) SDT Tekken 6 Podcast, it should come very soon.

Giant Bomb previews Tekken 6

Gaming site Giant Bomb takes a ‘quick look’ at the upcoming Ultimate Fighter, Tekken 6 (PS3 version)… as in, about a half-hour’s worth of gameplay and funny banter. The whole time is spent playing VS Battle once more, although we do get a nice look at Ling Xiaoyu’s TapouT shirt customization in gameplay. It’s nice and all but… still, man… can’t all these game sites show more than just basic VS gameplay? Will it KILL these guys to CUSTOMIZE a fighter? Any fighter? GYYYYYAAAHHHHH!!!!

Aaaanyway… this is a nice chunk of gameplay footage to tide us over as the wait for Tekken 6 continues. Check out the vid here.

More Tekken 6: In-game Cutscene, Gameplay!

More Tekken 6 footage! More! MORE!!!

Here’s another video preview of Tekken 6 for consoles from Youtube channel GolemDE, this time from Germany! This 4-minute montage of footage shows off quite a bit of stuff- aside from your usual VS battle action and snippets from the intro there’s actually some cool, never-before-seen bits: Asuka Kazama in a bit of Scenario Campaign action as well as a look at one of the new mode’s in-game cutscenes with Alisa and Lars. Check it out!

Tekken 6 Console: Match Videos

Till death do they part…

Youtube channel SuperArcadeBox is posting a bunch of match vids from the Xbox360 version of Tekken 6. The first one has Lili Rochefort thoroughly kicking butt in her scandalously sexy Oh! Great-designed Extra Console Outfit. Sharp-eyed players will notice that Lili’s fighting without her outfit’s veil, showing a bit of customization one can do with the extra costume. Also shown in the vid are hilariously cool comic book-style hit effects, a customization previously only available in Japanese and Korean arcades. Check out the videos here.

Asuka’s chic dress, boots and poofy scarf outfit in action.

Namco Video Podcast shows off Tekken 6 Customization

Here’s the latest episode of Namco’s Video Podcasting Magazine, and they show off some footage of the Character Customization feature in the console version of Tekken 6. Not a lot of stuff, and they show the squealy hosts more than they do the game, but what the heck… it’s something to watch. It’s all in Japanese, but well, I guess you can get the idea… they like the Customization. There’s even a bit where I think they’re talking about Leo’s gender based on his/her calves… or I may be wrong. Heheh…

Anyway, it’s kind of a slow start to the last week of waiting, but stay tuned- reviews may be forthcoming this week, and hopefully so will more vids. There’s still a chance for the game to break street date and cause a commotion (heheh). I’m hoping the game shops ship their preorders by the weekend or just before the 5th. Who knows? Crossing fingers. More as we get it, people.

Ultra Jump Egg’s Tekken Comic

Asuka Kazama stars in this collaboration between Namco and Ultra Jump Egg.

Well, whaddaya know… there’s an actual Tekken Comic! Produced by Namco-Bandai and Ultra Jump Egg- an online flash comic site- this manga tells the story of the Tekken 6 fighters, albeit in a bit more light-hearted and tongue-in-cheek manner than you’d expect.

Yes, it’s still the same overall story- Jin Kazama just declared the Mishima Zaibatsu an independent nation and has demanded that the world recognize the new Mishima Nation- however 40 countries have rejected his advances, resulting in his declaration of war. There’s a bit of fast action as we see Tekken Force commandos doing some bad deeds, including apparently taking over the UN(!). The war doesn’t seem to any reason to stop the Tekken Tournament matches, and we then see Paul Phoenix (who’s looking a bit ragged) engaging in a prize fight against Craig Marduk. Yeah, Marshall Law and Steve Fox are in the crowd and they’re portrayed as being a bit underhanded in trying to win the tournament (via Law planting some laxative-laced Chinese food in Marduk’s locker room). Pretty wild stuff!

The bulk of the story though soon shifts as an intruder barges into the arena, none other than the busty and bubbly Asuka Kazama herself. As per her Tekken 6 story, she’s come to knock Jin out for being a world-class ass. Unfortunately for her, the Tekken Force (headed by a pretty cool Eddy Gordo!) subdues her and she’s subsequently thrown out (gently though). Forced to return home for now, Asuka returns to normal life… until a certain blonde-haired, panty-flashing heiress parachutes into her space and before we know it, a fight’s about to break out!

Also appearing in the manga (albeit briefly) are Xiaoyu, Lili, Dragunov, Bob, Raven, Kuma (kinda) and King (oddly enough, two Kings appear with Craig, supposedly King the First and King the Second!), with an appearance by Asuka’s previously unseen father and a cameo by the late Jun Kazama. There’s quite a bit of action (but not too much), but more than a fair share of fan service- including an Asuka shower scene (OMGGGGGG) and panty shots from Lili Rochefort. Awesome!

The Tekken Comic is pretty entertaining, particularly for fans of the game who are waiting for the release of the console versions of Tekken 6. The comic so far has two chapters, or ‘Battles’ posted online, with the next installment set for early November. You can check out the Tekken Comic for yourself (thankfully there’s an option for english translations) here.

Tekken 6 Video Preview at Gametrailers

Asuka sez, “Watch Gametrailer’s Video Preview of Tekken 6 or I’m gonna kick your ass!”

Gametrailers has just posted a slick new video preview of the console versions of Tekken 6. It’s a pretty impressive spot, showing off some nice customization screens and cool action, with the voiceover citing particularly positive praise for the game (although it’s weird that they missed mentioning Lars and Miguel as new characters). According to the narrator, GT’s final review for the game is due out at the end of the month. I hope it’s a great review, particularly how GT has been a big part of marketing Tekken 6 all these months.

Anyway, check out the HD preview here

Tekken Movie to Premiere this November!

WHOA! Believe it or not, the live-action Tekken movie is apparently finished and getting ready to show. Who’d have thought??

The Tekken movie will be shown at American Film Market at Mann’s Criterion Theatre Santa Monica on Thursday, Nov. 5th – 5:00 PM and Monday, Nov. 9th – 3:00 PM. This was comfirmed on the American Film Market website and by MMA fighter Roger Huerta on MMAMadness.com Radio. Huerta plays Tekken 6 newcomer Miguel Caballero Rojo in the Tekken film.

Check out the entry for the Tekken movie at the American Film Market here.

Well now… that’s a surprise. I love it when a plan comes together. So then, if you Tekken-heads are in the area in early November and can tear yourself away from your consoles for a night, why not scope out the Tekken movie? The best thing that could happen is that it might actually be decent. The worst thing… well… it might have you running and screaming all the way back to the solace of the actual game, which still isn’t that bad in any case. Heheh… We’ll see.

Boxes of Kick-Ass

Oh, look what’s just been posted over at Namco-Bandai’s official Tekken Facebook Page. Ooh… boxes and boxes of Tekken 6 copies for both PS3 and Xbox360! Somewhere out there, my freakin’ copies are just sitting around when they should be on a goshdarned supersonic jet, being transported by MOSSAD-trained couriers with directives to reach me as soon as humanly possible and orders to KILL ANYONE WHO TRIES TO GET IN THEIR WAY!!!! GYYYYAAAAAAHHHH!!!

Ahem. Well, at least this more or less guarantees lots of stocks ready as the world prepares to welcome the first real Tekken sequel after five years (Tekken 5 came out in 2004, after all). Man, I can’t wait. Next week is gonna be crazy.

But damn, we still have to get past this weekend…

Tekken 6 Japanese Commercial

Had me laughing...

Tekken 6 Console IGN Review

Mainstream gaming site IGN finally gives their word on Namco-Bandai’s latest and greatest, giving Tekken 6 a score of 8.8 (Great), while their counterpart Down-Under, IGN UK, gives it a slightly higher 9.0 (Outstanding).

The US review cites the beat ‘em up’s pick-up-and-play mentality combined with potential for seriously in-depth strategies and mind games. The reviewer goes on to applaud the robust and rewarding Customizations for pimping out your fighters using the Fight Money you earn from the various modes. Perhaps the best comment I read in the review is the simple remark that Tekken 6 is ‘no button masher’, boasting a surprisingly deep system beneath a relatively simple interface. Also applauded were the game’s multiplayer features.

Flaws cited include the loading times, which were supposedly noticeable even after the optional Install, present for both the PS3 and Xbox360 version. The reviewer also didn’t find the Scenario Campaign that appealing, calling it ‘disappointing’ and ‘frustrating’ (apparently you can die instantly by falling off a ledge) but at least worth playing if you love to earn money for customizations.

“One of the most playable fighting series’ ever, and Tekken 6 doesn’t let the legacy down. If you have ever enjoyed a Tekken, you will love this one.” - IGN Australia

The IGN AU review cites Tekken 6’s huge roster of fighters and deep gameplay that has received some fundamental changes with the new Bound and Rage systems. The Scenario Campaign was found to have good action and the game has all the adequate modes and robust customizations, however they did find some issues with the music and sound, particularly not liking the Yodelling Music of the Hidden Retreat stage (that’s just his opinion… it rocks!). Loading times are also cited, but installing the game should ‘all but eradicate the problem’.

You can read the IGN US review here. The IGN AU review is here. A video review was also posted, so check that out here.

No dude, that was just a tidbit to tide us over until this 'new' announcement. It's just a palette swap for Yoshimitsu. This announcement is something new.

Yoshimitsu's fighting style has changed quite a bit from Tekken 5/DR, now it includes dual-sword and hand-to-hand fighting.

It's new in Tekken 6;

Code:
It should be noted that, in Tekken 6, Yoshimitsu has gone under the most drastic change so far, regarding his play style, compared to the other characters. Harada notes that it will be much more difficult to use Yoshimitsu this time around, and they consider him an “Expert” character. Because a part of Yoshimitsu's Tekken 6 story includes the fact that his sword is now losing power, Yoshimitsu must take a new fighting style, Kenjutsu from the Manji clan; this includes both dual sword fighting and pure fist fighting. '

Yoshimitsu's sword attacks used to be unblockable, however, in Tekken 6, some of them can actually be blocked.

I hope to Jeebus that Namco don't do console exclusive this and that like SCIV. Apparently some guest artist called CLAMP are creating exclusive clothing for the PS3 version and inevitably I think the 360 will get something in return.

So I think Namco like any money starved company will release the exclusive DLC for the other console as PAID content ala Vader/Yoda.

Speak for yourself. Try play a fighting game using the 360 pad, good luck with that.

360 d-pad is fine for the average player. I mastered DOA4 with it. Have you used a 360 d-pad before?

However, stick is better. *Hugs TE SF4 stick*

But I wouldn't go pre-ordering it until some reviews come in. If it's in a pre-order deal it's most likely going to be cheap and nasty. Probably better off sourcing your own stick.

I play SF 4 with a d-pad on the 360 all the time. Dan will fuck your shit up.

@LeonJ

Yes I have used the 360 D-Pad, it's rubbish for fighting games. Better suited for FPS, but not fighting games. Try inputting Just-Frame moves, HCF, QCF, u/f and so on. Just doesn't cut it. PS3 Pad and Stick, doesn't make a difference to me, I can play the same on both, but for fighting games, the 360 D-Pad is just horrible. As for the Hori stick, looks like the same parts used in the Arcade Version of T6/BR, so I daresay it'll be a solid piece of work.

@Benza

Please, if you have nothing to post that will encourage more 'positive' discussion, don't post at all.

As far as I know, it's a simultaneous worldwide release. If EB have the same pre-order bonus as GameStop, then that'll be cool.

Oh ok, as long as it a worldwide release im happy.

Im not really a fan of the arcade sticks for tekken so even if I buy the CE I wouldn't use it. I just want all the other stuff lol.

360 d-pad is so inaccurate. Even on the dash board I always accidentally scroll up rather than going left and right.

huh? FPS with d-pad? Good luck with that.

I could 19/20 ha-do-ken with the 360 d-pad. Maybe 17/20 yoga flames.

It's really not that bad. I'm just saying, I think it gets a bum rap. But in general, any d-pad is inferior for fighting games.

Anybody who uses a analogue stick on any controller for a fighting game should be shot also.

Sorry dude I worded it wrong. I meant the 360 controller is better suited for FPS Games rather than Fighters. As with PS3 Pad and Stick, it all bubbles down to personal preference, I know some professional Tekken players in the USA use a Pad at the arcades. But majority of the fighting game scene prefer Stick, as for me, here is what I think.

Ease = Pad(PS3)
Precision = Stick

I hope this stick has Sanwa parts, even though it writes Hori at the bottom. o.0
