I platinumed Damnation today. As I said in the "Last game you finished" thread, avoid this game at all costs. It only took around 8 hours to go through the campaign with a mate, and all the trophies are very easy to get (there mostly level completion) but the game is terrible. _________________

Just got a question about trophies. If some trophies need DLC to be earnt, can you still get a platinum? _________________

I know for Prince of Persia you are able to get the platinum trophy without the DLC. I originally earned 100% on PoP prior to the release of the DLC. When the DLC was released with trophies it didn't lock my platinum. All it did was reduce my trophy percentage completion. Not sure if this holds true for other games in a similar situation as PoP (i.e. DLC trophies added after original trophies with platinum) _________________ Recently Finished: Legend of Heroes - Trails in the Sky (8/10)

It's the same for all games. You'll still be able to get the Platinum trophy regardless of whether you've got the DLC or not, you just won't be able to attain 100% completion. _________________

One thing i dislike about trophies is just how unbalanced the values of the trophies are in most games i own. For example in Far Cry 2 the hardest trophy (besides platinum) would be finding all the diamonds within the game. This is not just awarded for the diamonds scattered throughout the landscape but also all earned during missions and side missions and with the sheer size of the game its a daunting task.
Still even completing the mammoth objective would only reward you with a bronze trophy.

I forgot to mention, yesterday Capcom announced that Bionic Commando Rearmed will be getting trophies. The patch is already going through QA so it shouldn't be much longer. The patch also makes the game a bit easier, such as if you die it'll put you back to the last bit of solid ground you were standing on, rather than the beginning of the level. _________________

I also dislike the platinum system for trophies. In all games platinum is merely a virtual reward for getting all of the other virtual rewards. I guess its Sonys way of balancing the added DLC trophies making it unable to get 100% without paying. Not a bad balance but games without DLC keep the same system when its not really needed. Just an opinion

It doesnt bother me, there are friends in my list that have Burnout for instance that have the platinum trophy but havent bought the DLC but as far as im concerned getting the platinum is the holy grail of trophies and incredibly hard so who cares if it says 100% or not.... _________________

"Burnout" + "Platinum trophy" + "Incredibly hard" don't mix.
(unless you count needing a stupid camera for one of the trophies...) _________________

Not me, i was just stating its sonys way of balancing. So even if you dont buy DLC you still get acknowledgement on the summary page (page with all games played , percentage & platinums) I just care mainly for the fact that platinums are basically a virtual reward for getting all the other virtual rewards. Not a major gripe, i still enjoy trophies

Its so you can easily tell who's completely finished a game and who just owns like 70 different games with a bronze Trophy on each.
Sony probably implemented Trophies before thinking about how added DLC would affect the percentage system.
I don't think it should say you've gotten 100% of the possible Trophies for a game if you simply don't have them all. That would be annoying for the people that have paid for their DLC, and those are the more important customers - like it or not. _________________

^^Thats a good way of looking at it, that platinums symbolise whos truly finished a game even without forking out the dough. Its a good way to look at it. Im not sure if Sony didnt plan for DLC though, the trophy system came quite late and Sony had alot of DLC out by then. Also MS' DLC achievement system was out at the same time the Ps3 was released in EU.

If you look at Achievements, I'm pretty sure the added DLC makes the Total Score change from 1000/1000 to 1000/1100. So that's pretty much the same thing.
As for your initial comment about a lack of balance to the values of Trophies, I agree. But thats because the games are all made by different developers. Can't blame the Trophy system for having difficult/annoying Bronze Trophies in Far Cry 2, you gotta blame the fools that made the game.
The most annoying thing about Trophies is the backlog of games that will never support them. _________________

Nice work Lucretia, I don't really collect trophies but surprisingly enough I only need one more trophy to get the platinum for Dead Space. I just enjoyed the game so much that just by playing through I happened to get most of them.
I just have that gold one left which is to finish it on impossible. Haven't played the game in a while but I got up to like chapter 6 on this difficulty, so it shouldn't be too hard to finish it off and get my first plat. _________________

I got very close using the once-off code for extra nodes. I also wasted a few on opening the doors for useless junk. So if you can't do it in one game, you can at least get VERY close. _________________

I thought so too, but he said it took 2 playthroughs to platinum (once on normal, once on impossible). As far as I'm aware, you can't do a New Game Plus playthrough on a harder difficulty setting.
Anyway, I just got Platinum No. 13 from Transformers 2. A pretty fun game, but quite challenging to get Plat. The hardest goals being to get a platinum medal on EVERY mission, which requires finishing the level in a certain amount of time. There's very little margin for error, and it did get a little frustrating, but the majority of missions are only 3-4 minutes long, so not too bad (cough, Mirror's Edge). The game also had its' own problems (many glitches), or it was just trying to fuck with me, where a couple of occasions where I was doing exceptionally well for time and was up to the last wave of enemies, the game thought it'd be funny to not spawn them in. Or spawn them on the opposite side of the map and instead of having them travel to you, have them walk into a wall so you have to waste precious time getting there. _________________

I just started Dead space and i think it has one of the best devised trophy list ive come across so far. It all just makes sense, golds for the most challenging , silvers for the moderate and bronze for the easy progressing ones and the 'fun' ones. I hope to see more trophy lists like this. The game also rocks btw no chore to get these trophies

yes you gotta play on normal or hard i did normal to unlock the impossible mode.. and new game+ only plays on the mode that u beat it on but for some reason i started impossible mode straight away and i still had my lvl 5 suit so that helped..
turns out to be a glitch if you dont turn the game off after beating it :s
| bobboblaw wrote: | | ^ Nice one. Did you manage to upgrade all your weapons/suit in the 1 playthrough then? |
hmm no that was my last trophy
i had to play halfway into impossible newgame + again
Just Platium Bioshock on survival one play through... very time consuming
took all week even missed some audio diarys had to go back for.. :S took a few saves and loading on the first few big daddy..
then i electric them later on in front of a rocket turrent worked well. then when u get trap wires with the cross bow they easy like pie. _________________
