Chilled out? I get totally stressed after playing for say an hour and realising that I'm about to die haha! Why do those magic conect-all blocks always seem to be in the wrong place?! icon_confused.gif

How do you find it on 360 though mclinton? I only played the demo, but thought that the PSP version was better in every way.

ATM I'm playing Banjo Tooie on XBLA. I've collected about 35 jiggies. Everyone was right, it's not nearly as good as Banjo Kazooie. It is interesting playing it though as it fills in the gap for me of Rare platformers. I know they always like turning the main player into an animal (see DKC 2), but Tooie really shows the progression in Rare's game design. Like Banjo Kazooie you would be turned into an animal. Tooie you would get turned into an animal, split up from each other and control Mumbo. And then in DK 64 there were 5 different characters you had to control. I really think that they lost it IMO. Banjo Kazooie was the perfect mix, with Tooie they pushed it too far, and with DK 64 they just went banana's (pun intended).

It's still a good game, but I don't know if I can be bothered to finish it.

Qbert, I half agree with you.

This will be my first time playing through Banjo Tooie other than the couple of hours I spent playing it when it first came out and I was only allowed to hire it for one night, so the majority of the game is new to me. I'm a bit further along than you are.

I think the magic of Banjo Kazooie has faded slightly, but at the same time I am really happy to have found another game starring the characters I've grown up with and loved. Whether it's because I'm older or not, I don't know, but the "magic" feeling playing it has been lost slightly, but not entirely.

It just seems that there's a whole lot of things to do for very little reward sometimes, and its hard to know what some jiggy's require, even with the tiny little hint they give you.

I actually really like the fact that Kazooie and Banjo split up, but there is quite a lot of things that seem a little gimmicky, like the new moves that Jamjar's has been teaching us, such as Clockwork eggs and Iced ones and stuff like that. I was a little bit excited every time I saw a Jamjar's hatch, but now I think, "What new egg flavour will we be getting now?" The moves don't seem to be as "epic" or unique.

So, yes, I've been playing Banjo Tooie and enjoying it. That is, until Grunty Industries. UGH!

Also, I've been playing Suikoden Tierkreis. I've almost finished it and I love it!

Now, this game is very much the same as BT, I think. It does some things well, and a lot of things not very well at all. Such as missions.

I was expecting there to be a lot of them. But there's really not as many as I thought there would be. And they're really not long at all. A couple of battles here and there and a lot of talking. I wish they could have made them a little more interesting. But that would be fine, apart from the fact that after a mission has been completed, the game, having put you automatically in the place that the mission occurs, leaves you there. So, let's say a mission occurs in a dungeon right at the beginning of the game. You've done what you need to do and everything's right in the world. Now you must trek back out the dungeon and to your castle, fighting every battle along the way for either 1 or 2 XP or running, which takes the same amount of time either way. This is quite annoying.

Also: Unwinnable battles. I've lost count of the amount of battles that have done this. A big bag scary guy comes and says all of this stuff and then attacks. You go all out for three rounds and then the battle is over. Sometimes the damage you inflict comes across as minimal, but other times your damage is zero or normal and still the battle ends at a certain point. It's quite frustrating, especially later in the game when a lot of baddies are doing bad things. Some missions you go on have a lot of talking punctuated by a few unwinnable battles, so you barely get any reward for it.

As for the characters, there's a mixed bag there. There's a lot of ones I love and it's frustrating to only be able to use four out of the ninety something available, especially when the game tends to force certain annoying characters into your party at certain points. So that's only either one or two people you can actually choose to include, and sometimes it can be really tough to decide.

The voice acting is TERRIBLE. The main guy talkslikethis as most people would know, and this is kind of funny, but other voices make you cringe, especially with the amount of noooooooooooo!ing and arghhhhhhhhhhh!ing in the game. When you sound like a cat yowling and you're a general, it's not a good sign. Or when your daughter has just turned into a monster, you don't just sound like there's no more vegemite in the pantry.

But having said all that, I love the game. It's nowhere near as great as Suikoden 5 was for me, but I'm glad I have it and I can see myself playing through it again, but only after a big break in between.

So, if you're turned off by what I've said about it, don't be. It truly is a great RPG, but is not the best one in the world.

I agree about learning all new pointless moves. Like the one where you need to have the split up power AND the egg laying technique to hatch the dinosaur eggs. It doesn't really make it any harder to do, it just takes time which is pointless. Surely you could just but-stomp the egg and it would be just as fun?

And everytime you want to switch between the small and big dinosaur you have to go to mumbo jumbo, go to the transform point, watch the cut scene, go back to mumbo jumbo and run up to the top, go back to the teepee and then you can finally transform! Just heaps of time wasting like that.

And seperating as Banjo and Kazooie is alright, but it's so stupid that you have to go back to each other to conncet again, or switch characters. And you can't leave the level unless you are in Banjo kazooie form. If I want to leave as Mumbo Jumbo, some weird animal or just Banjo or Kazooie, why can't it just transform me back to banjo Kazooie instead of me having to go back and waste a minute or two changing forms! That gets annoying after 20 or so times.

Another thing which I am prepared to forgive them for is that I think they went with a real half-assed approach to make the game open ended. I say I will forgive them becuase it is a 10 year game and probably had memory limitations and such. I just think that it's really annoying that you can't get a lot of jiggies in some levels becuase you don't have the ability that you can't get untill a later level. What's sorse is that it doesn't even explain this so you run around aimlessly for a long time! The levels connect through the train and such, but I would have prefered the traditional structure (eg Banjo Kazooie, Mario 64) or a fully open world platformer that wouldn't left you go to certain parts of the world until you have certain abilities.

My copy of Cross Edge turned up today, so guess what I've been playing for about 4 hours today. icon_smile.gif It was totally worth the wait, it's such a good game. The characters, the battle system, the awesome moves... <3

How did it take me so long to get into the brilliance that is Forza 2?

I've been powering away at it for the past week or two (ever since the Forza 3 announcement) and am absolutely loving every minute of it. I like that I'm gradually getting better too, from having all assists on to now going suggested line for braking only, auto trans and medium difficulty. I expect a few of those to change as I improve. Oh, and i found a really easy way to make cash, Nissan Speedway with a U class vehicle and all assists off (it's how I got those achievements), there's no need to brake at all and if you're U class you beat the crap out of the cars oh Hard difficulty. YAY!

As with any racing game it gets repetitive after a while (MY god does this game need more tracks) but I'm still enjoying it and I can't wait to get into the endurance races and spend a good hour on a single race perfecting every corner.

Probably my one downfall is I'm not much of a "racing" racer, I tend to drift around corners moreso than keeping to the line and keeping my speed up, I think it's a by product of the last proper racing game I played was PGR3 (Burnout Paradise doesn't really count). Which doesn't work too well with some of the vehicles on offer. Oh well, my original Volkswagon Golf (first car I bought) with its modifications is an absolute gun, gled to the road and a great level of acceleration, haven't even put a turbo in it yet.

I'm currently playing Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney.

It is great so far. I have just finished the second Turnabout, and am really enjoying the forensic aspects as teased in Justice for All's bonus case. So far the cases result in a lot less crazy guessing and much more in the way of logical deductions. Will have to see how the remaining cases pan out, but I would have to say the 'gameplay' of this fourth instalment is the best so far (e.g. print analysis), but the characters and cases of the first 3 will take a lot to top. Apollo takes a little getting used to.

Shock horror! I actually got a chance to play some games yesterday! I sunk about 5 hours into Oblivion. I'm enjoying it, but find myself often getting a tad overwhelmed. I can't help but feel that I'm not utilising the tools the game provides in order to strengthen my character. I'm often getting smashed by enemies. icon_sad.gif Thus far I have managed to make it through without too much frustration, so hopefully the trend continues.

I also played some De Blob. Very cool game, the interactive jazz soundtrack is definitely the highlight for me. But as fun as the game can be, I swear I will never, ever play another Wii game in which the jump command it mapped to "flicking up" the wii-mote. Jesus Christ. I came oh so very close to smashing my wii-mote last night, thanks to unresponsive "motion control" icon_rolleyes.gif Almost completely ruined the playing experience for me.

I take it from your player card, that you're playing it on X360. Whilst I really loved playing Oblivion on the consoles, I ended up trading mine in yesterday because I was frustrated at the min/maxing that was pretty much necessary to enjoy the game properly. Especially if you didn't know about it beforehand.

It's very easy, if you don't pick non-frequently used major skills, to be really gimped in your attributes. And because enemies level with you, you get into some sticky stages in the game where it just seems impossible.

I honestly can't believe they messed the game up with a stupid, counter-intuitive levelling system. If you really want to experience, try to pick it up cheap for PC, and get stuck into some of the really thorough levelling and item mods, that completely revamp the system to make it less burdensome and more manageable.

If that's not an option for you, try to pick major skills that you won't be using all that often, or that level slowly (such as Divination). That way, you can use your normal skills, and get levels when you want to, and ensure you get the +5 attributes for the right primary skills you're going for.

Been playing Chromehounds a lot lately, got all my golds and now I'm just grinding away for my valours.

If anyone knows Chromehounds, grinding for valours takes a long time and can at times get rather tedious at times.

There's only something like 30+ people who have the full 1000 gamerscore for it and I'm sitting at 920.

PS - Does anyone here play Chromehounds?

Time flies when your having fun doesn't it. Started playing Halo at about 10 or 11, and before I know it it's 4:30 in the morning! Such an awesome game, still enjoying it as much as ever. Also met this cool guy and we played together until I got disconnected and decided to go to bed.

all i can say is practice, haha.

the demo doesnt do its justice, theres tons of stuff for the 360 version, and achievements that you have to be professional to get, all just play a lot haha.

if you enjoyed the psp version you would love the 360 version. basically same shit different smell.

17 hours play time on the xbla version, haha

Been playing Prototype and Guitar Hero 3 this week. Prototype is fun but I expected more. Guitar Hero is great however my controller keeps stuffing up. It is the most annoying thing ever. I beat the game on easy the first day I got it and am now up to the last boss on medium. This game is great, I can't believe it took me this long to get it.

More de Blob for me. I'm really having a lot of fun with it, despite the occasional frustration caused by the shoddy jump controls. It's weird, I find the combination of the chilled jazz soundtrack and the animated paint effects almost therapeutic. I kind of just zone out and relax while playing it.

I've also had a crack at The Sims 3 which my bro bought the other day. It's pretty cool. Loads of new features that make it feel more focused and fun. Not sure how long it will hold my interest but I'm having fun with it at the moment.

Prototype.

It is everything I was expecting and more, while the movement can be a touch finicky and there are a couple of control issues (sometimes when I go to grab a guy I end up clinging to a wall) but ultimately it is so much god damn fun that i can excuse a couple of minor niggles for the sheer enjoyment of riding around a city crushing cars and people in a tank while shooting at anything and everything.

Currently it's phenomenally easy though (only done 7 main missions and annihilated a few bases), playing on normal and I've yet to encounter a challenge, though a group of hunters can be pretty brutal. Strike Teams definitely need to be tougher.

Well, I think I've played the most boring game ever in Ferrari Challenge. I'm sorry, because I know a lot of people are into these sort of driving sims, but in the 3 sessions I tried to play, I almost fell asleep (and surprisingly still won every race and drove perfectly). Maybe I was biased against the game to begin with, I booted up the tutorial and crashed/spun out every few seconds and hated it. I guess I'm only into arcade racer such as NFS and Motorstorm. But I persevered with the tutorial for a good 20 minutes and got a 100% rating for everything, then proceeded to the challenge tournaments... icon_zzz.gif Now, in the arcade racers I do enjoy, I usually think 6 or 7 minutes for a race is pushing it. These goddamn races go for bloody 20 minutes! Sure, 20 minutes wouldn't be too bad in a Motorstorm session due to the adrenaline and intense racing that typically encompasses an MS experience. But don't get me wrong, a racing game doesn't need constant crashes or massive jumps etc to be deemed fun, but this game makes you follow a green line along the track, and then you apply the brakes when the green line turns to red. You literally have to stop your car to a halt to take corners, otherwise you'll spin out. That's all there is to the game, it's so damn boring, and you have to do 9 or 10 laps of the circuit which takes 20 minutes. Not even comfortably winning every race I played by at least 1 minute is going to keep me playing.

Sorry about that, rant over. Back to Civic Video you go.

Also played a bit of Virtua Tennis 2009, and that's going straight back for a refund. Somethings clearly wrong when Virtua Tennis 2 on the Dreamcast is a far superior game. Sure, this game include online multiplayer, but the online sucks. It gets tiresome when you hit the ball for a winner, only for the ball to suddenly go back a metre and hang in the air, and your opponent hits it back to you.

Heroes of Might and Magic 3!

I had a bit of a hankering for the series after coming across the original HOMM available for download at GOG. I'd played 1 & 2 in the past, but decided to give three a shot... not disappointed! Bloody addictive turn based gaming! Keeps me up all night yelling at little horses trotting about a map.
