Hey guys, I don't know if this is allowed or not, but I'm currently WTFing and wondering if this is happening for anyone else!
So the ISP I'm with is running the Government's internet filtering trial, and while trying to sign into the Rising Star Games forum I got hit with a | Quote: | The page you have requested has been blocked by our internet filter as a result of Highway 1 participating in the ISP Filtering Pilot.
The page is either listed on the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) blacklist of prohibited sites, or is in a category nominated for blocking by you in your user profile. |
.
The reason why this is such a huge WTF - Rising Star Games!? That's the company that localises Harvest Moon games! Why on earth is that being blocked!?
I can go to the main site perfectly fine, and I can even browse the forums as long as I don't log in, it's purely the sign-in process page that gets blocked! O_O
So is anyone else getting this problem? 'Cause this is really weird!

Underage kids!!!! That baby has a dildo on its head!!!
(Honestly, it's mind boggling, and I really do hope my ISP never signs up to the trial, or this filter isn't really mandatory, it's just some big joke.)

This would, unfortunately fall under the usual "well we block the harmful stuff and unfortunately since that site has the word poopy on it it's blocked also, tough luck lad" that the proponents of such a filter would care less about if the filter did its job. Which it doesn't, but don't tell them that.
Probably only thing you can do is drop a line with your ISP with the site in question so they can either go "yup blocked" or "oh hey it's blocking puppies, those evil evil men!" and it'd then filter back and they'd maybe refine their blocking methods. I would think if you tried to work around it using other methods to circumnavigate the block during it's test period you'd have a higher chance of getting busted doing illegal stuff and all.
Could also kick up a fuss with your ISP to remove the block on your connection, voting with your feet, refusing to pay your bill until they do. Might work, who knows. Would send a strong message though if enough people did it.
Good luck with that...

Wow, this sucks. If something like that can get blocked then so could PALGN. Lame.
PS: Anyone who thinks this filter won't be used for political agenda is naive.

Everything is political agenda though. Internet fitlering is something that needs to be done but no one has seemed to be able to do it right. If they plan on using the filter they've got currently they might as well shut down all the ISPs as it just won't work.

^^ Needs to be done? What?
I don't care if I'm never going to look up a terrorist website I don't want the government being able to tell me I can't.
The filters should be opt-in, not opt-out and there should be no mandatory filter whatsoever. _________________

Well, the government can already tell you that you can't go and purchase a book on how to be a good terrorist. This is simply a logical extension of their current powers.
