Fixed.
The fact there's motion detectors on the side of the board to pretend you're pushing off is just screaming for carpet replacement. _________________

...aaaaand you can colour me uninterested. First time I can actually say I've been completely uninterested in a new Tony Hawk game. _________________

I just saw the trailer for it. I'm not really interested in it, I think the Tony Hawk series has been overdone, I'm after something a little more fresh.
Seems like Activision is going for the whole Guitar Hero 'everything needs a peripheral' mentality.

What a load of shite... I hope EA don't feel the need to match this absurd sellout for Skate 3. _________________

I don't know about others, but the whole idea of all these 'realistic' peripherals is terribly unappealing to me. I have absolutely no desire to 'act out' riding a skateboard. I'd rather just go spend the money on a real one. The whole thing is just incredibly stupid. How do you jump for example? Do you just jump on the board, or do you physically make the entire board jump? What about grinding, flips etc.? To me, the stationary board is really only useful for simulating kicking off and standing on a board, and because it's stationary it's a poor simulation at best.
Bah at my pessimism.

umm, lets hope the board is better than the thrustmaster one i had a few years ago, they're REALLY not designed for the 'average' player of the games (i.e. people like me who are over about 90 KG) but regardless this will be the first tony hawk's game i won't be buying _________________

So i guess they have really gone away with the crazy trick system and moved towards a slightly realistic approach. But why have the majority of this trailer not about the game but some random shots, I would of rather see how this new approach looked in gameplay.
That new board looks like a retailer's nightmare, more bulky peripherals to stock and be useless. _________________

As an actual skater I am personally offended by this cheap gimmick. _________________

Why would I want to play a game with a fake plastic guitar when I can play REAL guitar?
Guitar Hero and the like turned out awesome. I don't see why we should jump on this as being crap just based on an unproven controller.
...that being said, I most likely won't be buying, but then I wasn't going to buy any TH or Skate or whatever game anyway. _________________

While I think it could be alright, enough with the peripherals already! I already have a Rock Band guitar, Rock Band Ion Drums and a Wii Fit balance board in my lounge room, I don't want any more! Soon we will have a peripheral for every few games, and our lounge rooms will be full of game controllers.

I was really hoping that this wouldn't happen. A controller is fine for playing games, you don't need a different controller for each kind of game. When I play games, most of the time I want to just sit there and relax and enjoy, not bother with having to stand up and physically excercise, no matter how small the amount of effort required is. _________________

Has it been confirmed players will actually stand on the Controller?
The buttons along the side lead me to believe it will be controlled like a giant Tech Deck on the player's lap.
It's been announced that there are sensors in the board that let it detect pressure, to alter what sorts of moves will be performed, grabs and the like.
If it will be something that is stood on, and encouraged to jump on, I can imagine quite a lot of broken boards occurring. The weight restriction would also introduce a more limited target audience, a large number of which would be likely to be young and rough enough to break the controller during play.
If that turns out to be the case, I'd be hoping there are alternative and more traditional control systems included with it. _________________

Yes.
There's a sensor on the side of the controller to detect your foot's movement as you "push off" to move forwards. _________________

But....but that isn't how the internet works. You're supposed to go in headfirst, like Pete Rose, and spew out whatever reactionary pile comes to your head. You're doing it wrong!
Taking all bets: How long til someone injures themselves on the thing? How long til some dullard leans far too back and slips a disc, or some dummkopf gets a bit too much into the spirit and gets their head through the telly, or til someone gets a stair railing to the groin?

The problem is it just won't WORK. That, and the fact that all I'll be dealing with is broken peripherals at work that we are unable to exchange.
EA won't follow suit with Skate, they've found the right combo.

A bit of bumpage right here guys but over here Kotaku have put up an article about the leaked US price of Tony Hawk Ride.
It's going to be $120 US. So uh who, if anyone, is still interested after seeing that price tag? _________________

not me, skate is still going to be a better game than this, I would love to save my judgement but I just dont think it can really work. the controls on skate, IMO, are just right...
I can see a few people breaking things around them, themself or someone else with this thing to, i bet it could get mighty slippery on carpet....
and that price is what $150-$180 aussie?? _________________

i wonder how you would do those narly 900's and backflips. i rekon this will really make the game more realistic. half the stuff you can do in that game, most pros can't even do/think of.
