"and we doubt that anyone would complain at the prospect of bucketloads of high-definition content delivered straight to their home console"
- I would 'cause it would chew up my bandwith

Could this perhaps give M$ a kick up the bum and finally get them to offer decent Live content in Aus? _________________

Possible only if FTTH is rolled out quicker than expected.

the HK PSN alreay has HD content, there are two categories:
1) music videos
2) Hot asian chicks pretending to know what they're talking about when talking about games
iirc, 4min of video eats up 200mb, so imagine full blown movies/tv shows.. _________________

I suppose they expect anyone who could afford to cough up for the PS3 to be able to afford a higher-end internet connection.

Who the Hell offers unlimited internet for $100 a month? Hell, who offers unlimited internet, period?
To put it simply we do not have the infrastructure currently to handle high definition content in excess. The new lines will be many years away and until then we will be stuck with 20-30Mbps which just isn't fast enough for this kind of system.

I said $100's a month. HUNDREDS. You can get unlimited, but it is expensive as hell.

Here's hoping iiNet sign a content mirroring agreement with PSN like they did with iTunes and XBLA. Unmetered PSN would be sweet - forking out for the quota to download them would not. _________________

it's already on 360 if you just create a american silver account, a bit silly that we have to wait when it's just a different address.

I'm paying $55/month for my unlimited 1500/256 connection, the catch is that I'm shaped during buisness hours (8am-6pm monday-friday, full speed all weekend), but it's shaped to 128/256 so it's still good enough to play most games online . Since I work from 7:30am to 7:30pm anyway it works out awesome for me .
I've got the express offpeak 512/128 from pacific internet, but last year they gave us a free upgrade to 1500/256

Unfortunately, that doesn't help when you want to download high definition content. And shaping = not unlimited, unlimited to me is; here's ADSL2+, now download whatever the hell you want.
I get what you mean though.

I swear I heard them say that last year... going somewhere fast I see.
On another note M$ I know have been making progress cause they have been setting up deals with some ISP's to allow account holders unlimited bandwidth on Xbox Live downloads which in turn would include movie services and IPTV.
Also I would more like to see Play TV come out soon for the PS3 as well I'm looking forward to turning my PS3 into a pvr.
