A mate of mine was claiming that there are plans to release another stimulus package towards the end of the year... Does anyone know if there is any truth to this? Another $900 sure would be nice! _________________

I just got my second payment of 900 dollars. For any students on youth allowance who also work I can confirm that you will get two payments.

i didn't get it cos i lived off my savings last financial year instead of signing up to the dole.
stupid thing is, i did sign up at about the beginning of June, but then got a job which i started July 2, so i cancelled my dole process, despite being allowed to actually claim in retroactive payments, what i would've received from the time i signed up, to July 1st. (Centrelink actually asked when i went and cancelled the signup process, but i couldn't be bothered dealing with all the follow-up s**t they put you through, once you do start working.)
so yeah, because of my social conscience, and the fact that Centrelink dick you around for months after getting a job, i miss out.
that said, i don't really need it now, it just would've been nice, guilt-free pocket-money. _________________

The payments aren't about helping people out or being "fair". They are about giving money to people who will spend it. The unemployed are less likely to spend and more likely to have debt. Students are much more likely spend, and students who work even more so.
That being said I am spending a small portion and saving the rest.
And to whoever was saying they would have got it if they were on the dole, no you would not have.

The thing that people seem to be miss re: paying off debt is that people are going to be more inclined to spend when they have less debts so in a way paying off your debts IS helping the situation. It just means that you will have more money from your normal job because you won't have to pay off part of your debt. More money in your pocket = more inclined to 'treat' yourself.
And yes, I understand that the payments aren't about fairness - clearly - but you completely contradicted what you said by saying you will be saving most of the two payments you received. How is what you're doing with the money any different to someone paying off debts? By saving the money you are not contributing - at least in the short term - to the solution.
As for the unemployed - these people need money more than anyone. And just what do you think they are going to do with the money? Let it sit in their bank account like you and presumably so many others will do? Nope. They are going to spend the money.
When you look at the situation clear, the less income earners are going to be more inclined to spend the money. That's the reality, and yet the lesser income workers are the most punished (except students on youth allowance for course ) Me personally, I think they should've given the money to students & the low-to-mid income earners and no-one else. The guy in the local paper - who stated he didn't need the money and shouldn't have gotten in - agrees too.

Well my parents are overseas but both of their packages arrived the other day.. I think one $900 lot was a family bonus, since my dad isn't eligible, while the other was my mum's.. thought it had to be a single income family to get the former? If they've made a mistake of some sort, I assume naturally you have to return it promptly..? They won't be back for a while still..
(Of course there's always the option of me and my two siblings splitting the mysterious $900 three ways ) _________________

Then why give only to students on youth alowance? Wouldn't students with full/part time jobs and no youth alowance be just as likely to spend?
I got my $900 almost a week ago. _________________

I spoke to the guy on the post bike today. He said that they are doing the payments by area codes. So for people who are still waiting i guess your area code is on the waiting list. Maybe somebody here can put some truth to this..

I got told before you get the money, there would be a letter sent to you that actually say you are getting the money. Can anyone confirm this?

Yeah. A cheque came in the mail today addressed to my mum. It's a cheque for $900 to be put into her bank account. Now I need to find a way for it to goto my bank account... _________________

I received my money (in my bank account) last week, and I got a letter this week saying I would be receiving the $900. So you may get the money even if you haven't got a letter about it yet.
