Is it worth continuing it? There seems to be a lack of interest after the recent domain changes.

We've removing the donation for $poons thing to make $poon counts more realistic. Having said that the last item only went after one bid... for $p 0.05, so I don't know if the lack of interest is simple because people don't have the $poons.

Would you like to see more things like VIP status and Personal Forums up there since they seem popular?

Yeah auctions are a good idea, that Game Cube one is going to get interesting in a couple of weeks time.

Well I don't care either way, but I'm not gonna bother bidding when people can just pay their way to riches. icon_razz.gif

Well they are donating to the site so why not get some $poons back in the process?

It's a good idea, but the low $poon counts is probably hurting the auctions. Maybe we could get more $poons per post?

That could be partly to do with the fact that there's a GameCube up there. I know I haven't been bidding on any of the other items because I want to save my $poons for it. icon_biggrin.gif

A collection of thoughts:
VIP status and personal forums aren't such a good idea for the auction - I think they work better as standard purchases. (The year-VIP wasn't bad, though.)

Maybe the lack of interest is simply because not enough people know about the site. Only a certain percentage of users will actually want any specific item, so the total number of active (don't forget that) users has to be much greater for there to be a sufficient amount of bidders to raise the price.
How many people who have PALGN raffle sigs have, underneath the image, something like "Become a constructive and frequent poster on PALGN and you could earn a GameCube!", or something similar, at least? icon_kero.gif

I definitely think that auction times for the "lesser" items should also be extended, especially because of the amount of users with low $poon counts. icon_smile.gif

I'm not sure about donations for $poons. Of course, it's good to encourage people to donate to PALGN, but it makes all auction items almost completely unreachable to anyone who hasn't donated. icon_neutral.gif
(If something is unreachable, it may be deterring users from signing up and posting to try to obtain it. If they know they're going to end up having to pay, they probably won't bother.)
This problem becomes lesser if the auction time is extended, I guess... icon_smile.gif

Maybe the auction just needs time to pick up icon_kero.gif

[Edit for reponse to supersonic sonic, below: Nope icon_razz.gif I don't think that particular item will boost activity... but you never know icon_dumb.gif]

I totally agree, but I'm not gonna donate, therefore won't be participating any further in auctions, backing up my point for not caring about the future of the auction area.

I think everyone skimmed over that. I decided the donations for $poons wasn't a good idea - there were various complications that were coming out of it.

Oooooh, didn't read that, must have read the topic late last night. Then I say keep the auctions, it's not a bad idea.

Well, in hindsight I probably would've spent more then 0.05 on the last bid if someone else had bid on it. <_<

It's a good system, we just don't have the bidders.

If I wanted to keep my board alive for another 2 months, then I wouldn't mind paying something like £5 every month/2 months to keep it open.

Ya. I was thinking of changing the system to get VIP status or personal forums instead of $poons.

I don't think that it's a bad idea at all. I might go and bid once I get a bigger $poon-count.

In fact, I can't wait for future items icon_smile.gif
