4000+ Bargains later and it has finally come to this...

While I have generally avoided milestone threads in the past, something seemed different about my 4000th post. Since becoming a staff member for PALGN around two and a half years ago, I’ve been fortunate to get to know a lot of forum members and make friendships.

I would love to thank everyone in general, but the reality is there’s no way I can remember everyone unless I copy another milestone thread. To me that seems a bit pointless, so I’m going to mention those who have stood out the most for me on a personal level and leave a small comment. If I do forget someone, I apologise.

People are listed at random, or alphabetical order when I couldn’t be bothered doing it random anymore. And please, don’t ask about the picture, I just wanted to include it for a random effect!

IRC Crew
What can I say, I love you guys! You’re either giving me feedback on an article, giving me advice on my personal issues, or just being a great social body for me to go to and rant about things. I’ve gotten to learn a lot about people by joining IRC, and now I frequent the place almost nightly. Again, great place.

NismoR034
I used to think of you as the guy with blue text, yet now you’re one of the people I talk to the most. Staying up until the wee hours of the morning is a blast with you, and you’ve helped me get through a lot of issues these past few months. I’ve told you before, but I am thankful you were there for me. It’s a shame you don’t post on the forums anymore, though you somehow manage to keep up to date with what’s going on (you lurker you). A heads up to the rest of you, I highly recommend checking out Nismo’s blog. He’s a great writer, and he continues to improve and post more and more interesting entries each week. I know I’ve had my ups and downs, but it has truly been a great pleasure and experience writing for PALGN, and I have you to thank for it.

I must admit I didn’t know a lot about you until a few months back. I viewed you as an obsessed WoW/UT/Quake fanatic. Speaking to you though, I found you’re a down to earth, intelligent, and trust worthy guy. I’ll never forget the night you talked to me in-depth about UT, linking to frag videos and teaching me some of the basic strategies involved. While I always found FPS in the nature of Quake and UT fun, you taught me there was a lot more to them than on the surface. Hopefully one day I’ll be able to take you on in a Quake Live match (I doubt it).

The updater of the Super Smash Bros.: Brawl topic. I always used to log on waiting to see what you had to say about the game, and the discussions that fired up made waiting for the game all the more fun.

Samboy
Wakka wakka wakka (inside joke). You’re a great guy, and we’ve had quite a few discussions over the months. What I’m thankful for the most is you pushing me to have an eye test, and now I’ve gone from geek to total nerd with my awesome glasses! Being short sighted is a wonderful thing (?). It’s always nice talking to you, even if you don’t like Naruto.

You’re awesome man. You take my abuse, my bad jokes, my demanding commands and everything in between. If you weren’t a bunch of 0’s and 1’s I’d totally go out with you.

Adam
A great guy. He can get a bit overboard with his jokes from time to time, but he always listens and tries to brighten up the mood. It was funny in March as Adam was making a big storm about how he wanted to get more words than me (for those that don’t know, PALGN can track the contributions of each writer including how many words and how many validations they make each month). It was a battle to the finish, Adam and I were neck and neck, I’d take the lead then he’d make a come back. In the end though, he took the crown for March. All well, I think he learnt his lesson as to how draining it can be though.

Charly
One of the fantastic women of PALGN, and one of the fantastic overall members as well. I always admired your views on trade-bait and how you tell people off for going to extremes such as buying a game from JB and going direct into EB to make an $8 profit. I don’t really think people take your hints though. All well, you’re a classy and down to Earth lady, and that’s all that matters.

ZombiBubonik
You never really used to speak much, but in recent weeks you’ve slowly made your presence felt with seemly random comments, photos and comics. One thing I’ve noted about you is you have this quirky and high-spirited nature, it’s a breath of fresh air and it makes you a top notch fellow. I also like the little chats we’ve been having recently.

Aftershock
Good old shockaholic. You’ve always got someone interesting to say and can have a joke here and there. Seriously, good man, keep doing what you do!

Anthony
One of the PALGN heavyweights and caretaker of all things release lists. He’s a great and understanding guy who puts a lot of effort into his day to day life. Mind you, he is a little nuts when it comes to Mass Effect, but I think we can forgive him for that.

Alex
He somehow moved from his lush single life in Sydney and is now living with the controlling Dani in Adelaide; city of murderers, churches, wineries. Despite the risk you took you seem to have pulled through, so well done. I enjoy the discussions we’ve had in IRC, though they have been few and far between mostly. Notable convos include your workplace at Dick Smith and the night you had a build up of ear wax. Oh, and it’s always fun to hear about drunk Dani. Speaking of which, I wish the best of luck for you and Dani in the future.

Blacko
You didn’t want a mention so you got one. Take that you ungrateful person! Nah, great guy. Made me laugh a few times in IRC.

Blast Hardbody
Obsessive Ebayer, Cashies and pawn shop lurker. Seriously though, the guy puts a lot of effort into his trading, and he always links to some pretty interesting Ebay auctions in IRC. Hope all goes well with that new (well, a few months old) apartment you’re renting with a couple of friends.

Bronze
Always interesting to hear of your teaching experiences in Japan. I hope everything goes well in your swanky apartment overlooking the swanky scenery of one of the swankier districts of Japan… Hmmm… Did you need a flat mate to bludge off you? Hahaha, joking of course, seriously though good luck man.

BurnZ
The first person to add me as their PALGN buddy (god only knows why), and someone who continuously cracks me up when I’m browsing the forums. I have no idea where you get your sense of humour from, but wherever that is don’t change your supplier! (Yeah, I have a bad sense of humour… really, really bad)

Buttmouth
Another one of my old regular Mario Kart Wii rivals. It’s been great racing against you, and you’re doing a fantastic job with the podcasts mate.

Canetoad
Ah Caney, it just wouldn’t look right if I saw your blonde-haired avatar on Xbox Live playing anything other than COD4. I’ve seen you play Peggle a few times, but it never quite fit in with your whole cult following. One day I’ll have to purchase COD4 and verse you in a few matches (and get my arsed kicked…). Of course, with Modern Warfare 2 on fast approach that may not happen anytime soon…

Cro
Ah Cro, you disappoint me. You stopped playing Nuts & Bolts for a few months, then you go back to it and hate it. Tsk Tsk Tsk. All things Banjo aside, you’re a great guy and always have something interesting to say.

DancesInUnderwear
One of my fellow Adelaidians and quite a funny person as well. I think between you and BurnZ I find you both equally funny, though you have a more sarcastic and direct sense of humour in comparison. Keep up the dancing (prancing?) around in your underwear btw.

Dani
Another one of the PALGN ladies, and perhaps the most respected. I’ve always viewed you as a strong woman, but at the same time you’ve shown you can be quite emotional concerning different matters. But the most important thing is you’re never afraid to speak your mind, and that’s what makes you a wonderful person. Again, I wish you and Alex the best of luck for the future, and have a margarita next Saturday night for me.

Darunia
Quite a strange fellow, yet for a 15 year old is surprisingly smart and intelligent. I find your stories of your school life quite intriguing, and it’s actually made me respect my old high school a lot more. Darunia, I’m aware you’re going through a lot right now and I can relate to you more than you can imagine, but believe me when I say things will improve when you reach adulthood. Give it time, and you will see the world in a new light.

DeathFalcon
Great guy, and always gives me a Falcon Punch when I ask him to. Not much else I can say really, but now it’s time I gave you something in return…. FALCON KICK!

döppelgangbang
Ah dopp, the legendary cool guy who I’ve failed to meet. Another one of my Mario Kart Wii rivals, dopp planned the awesome Adelaide meet-up which saw only three forum members meet up. Ironically, there would have been four had I stayed at the location for another five minutes or recognised Darunia (I ended up standing next to him briefly and only realised who he was the week after). I’m sure we’ll meet eventually dopp, but until then keep being awesome.

Dropbear
It seems all the Adelaide folk like their usernames/real life names beginning with the letter D. DancesInUnderwear Darunia, Dani, Dopp, Dropbear… Yeah, I’ll stop now. Anyway, for some reason Dropbear you give me a bear hug in IRC just before you go to bed and I’m logged on. For that, you get a mention in my milestone thread. (/me hugs Dropbear)

Eyce
I’ve known Eyce for quite a few years now on different forums, so we share quite a few memories. Eyce, you’re another one of those PALGN members I consider to be funny, and your obsession with Rock Band is truly a sight to behold.

Feraloni
A little on the quiet side at times but always takes the time to say hello. Just one of the many folks who have something interesting to say on IRC. Top bloke, very respectful.

Friend-o
Fetch the ball Fido, go on. GOOD BOY! That’s a good…. No! No! Not on the lawn! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Yeah, you always continue playing that game with me. I have no idea why, it must annoy you so. Either way, you’re a great guy (I’m starting to sound like a broken record here) for putting up with me and I always like chatting to you.

Gizmocreative
Shane my main man, how could I not mention you? You created the Bargain Round-up icon and continue to entertain me with your stories of China and Jerry Springrolls. On a more serious note, I hope your wedding day is as beautiful and successful as your future life with Mrs. Gizmocreative.

Glen
Another awesome staff member of PALGN, and caretaker of those even more awesome Poll of the Week polls. I’ll admit right now we haven’t talked much, but you’ve offered some interesting insight into a few issues here and there, and have joked around with me a bit. I hope your travels in England are joyful.

People, this guy is pure AWESOME! He puts up with my really lame jokes, constant nagging, and all my comments and suggestions of what Koei should do with the Dynasty Warriors series. He takes more crap from me than WildBillBot does. In all seriousness though he’s been a great friend, telling me about his work at Koei, his adventures in Japan (namely sitting in a flat all day eating and playing games, aside from the occasional game of hockey) and so much more. I look forward to playing Monster Racers and DW6:E Pod, then the second I spot a glitch I’ll be all over your arse!

Island_Wolf
Ah Tina, you’re a very smart, down to Earth and confident woman. You’re always so calm and collective, but at the same time you always speak your mind and come to understand others’ feelings on various issues. More importantly, you understand the finer art that is the Dynasty Warriors series! If only you would hurry up and finish Banjo-Kazooie XBLA… And then move on to Banjo-Tooie XBLA!

Jaws
One of the local Nintendo fans, creator of several guides and a frequent reader of my Virtual Console and WiiWare update articles. I admire how much passion you have for certain topics, and your posts always make for an interesting read.

Jeremy
One of the more calm and relaxed staffers, Jeremy is a really great guy. He always looks out for everyone and tries to keep the best interests at heart when making decisions. While mature and serious most of the time, he can also lighten up and have a joke with you. I have high respect for you, mate (/suck up).

kaerlis
You’ve been on an IRC regular for about a month now, and from the moment you first join you started talking to little old me. I enjoy our chit chats a lot, and you’ve given me some great advice and tried to help me with various situations. I always appreciate you insight on matters, and it’s nice to have another perspective to look to.

Ka-Pom
A typical bloke in that you seem to have sex on the brain. Seriously, I’ve seen you turn the most innocent conversations into sex-related stuff. But in a way, that’s your character and with it comes a unique charm. Still, when you do act mature you’re a great guy to talk to… but only just.

Kim
Kim is a true legend here at PALGN. She can type a dozen news articles in a mere hour, she’s keen to take on anything that’s thrown at her, and in general she just has a great personality. The thing I’m grateful for the most is when I received a Buzz! Jr. game to review but didn’t have any buzzers to play it with. Kim was kind enough to lend me her buzzers, so it shows her generosity. Again, thanks Kim.

Kronos6
Another odd fellow, yet cool at the same time. While he’s not around too much on the forums, he’s an active IRC member who always has something interesting to say. Kronos6, keep doing the stuff you do.

Lapzod
Good old Lapzod, he never fails to make me smile or greet me as I enter IRC. He always seems to try and have a positive outlook on matters, and is understanding towards others. Great bloke.

LeonJ
This guy is awesome. Loves Naruto, likes Sonic, and is never afraid to speak his mind. I traded some tokens with you in Metroid Prime 3, but haven’t really done much else aside from a Naruto discussion once on IRC. We need to have a game of something over Xbox Live.

Mattstep
All I see is a shark and a woman swimming in the water. I dunno, that sig / avatar combo really stands out, as do your comments on various matters such as the ‘haunted’ work place and various other things. Basically, I find your posts interesting and I always stop to read them. Keep up the good work.

Mekky / thebigm
Mekky, my fellow Naruto fan who showed me the awesome site that is MangaShare. Our conversations have usually been brief, but you’re a great guy to talk to and always say hello. You also put up with me quite a bit last year when I was in urgent need of someone to create feature images for the Christmas Buyers guides. I hope your new(ish?) job goes well, and I also hope we can have a few more Naruto discussions shortly.

Moistflaps
You really need to change that name, maybe Big Banana will suffice? … In all seriousness, you’ve been a great forum member, and I’ll always be thankful of you for giving me that Banjo-Kazooie XBLA code. I love the Banjo series to death, and it was a really nice Christmas present. You’ve also given me a few details concerning JB specials, so it’s helped me quite a bit in Aus Bargains (notes to the JB Hi-Fi bigwigs reading this, he merely pointed out that the website had been updated with specials). Anyway, if there’s anyone out there who doesn’t like a moistflap then shame on you… And that goes double for Moistflaps. Ho hum.

NeoSanity
I’ll be honest, you can be painfully immature at times, but having had private chats with you I’ve come to understand how your mind works and that you’re quite intelligent and mean well most of the time. While I don’t usually seek your guidance on any particular matter, I have sometimes walked away from a conversation with a new outlook on a subject, and for that I thank you. I don’t show this enough, but I do enjoy our private conversations.

Nietzsche
Yeah, I’ve gotten to know a lot of people via IRC. Nietzsche is another one of those people, he’s just a friendly guy who always says hello and can have a joke here and there. One night in IRC we pretended to be zombies, and I changed my nick ZombiJoseph and he changed his to ZombiNietzsche. Stupid yes, but it was fun giving people virtual bites and turning them into Zombies. Good times, good times. “ZombiJoseph has changed his name to ZombiJesus”

Passa
I really don’t know why or how you keep complaining about school. You’re a smart man Passa, and you’ve even helped me on occasion with a few issues. More recently you managed to help me make Quake Live work again but directing me to the right links. Seriously Passa, you kick yourself quite a few things on the forums and in IRC, but you have potential and I’m confident you will rise to glory within the first few years of adulthood. Be strong, you’re a great guy and you know it.

You’re what I describe as one of the more quirky members of the forums. I simply enjoy your stories about taking in patients and the various other antics you get up to in the X-Ray office you work at. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but you’re an interesting person and add a bit of character to the forums.

Pudding
While you can be immature and over the top at times, you’ve somehow managed to charm your way into this milestone thread. Perhaps it’s the way you aren’t afraid to speak your mind, or maybe it’s how you can hold a conversation. Either way, you are certainly one of a kind which prompts for many interesting stories.

A very friendly and easy going guy. I didn’t really start taking to Vervain too much until a few months ago, but even then I always found his stories and hardship interesting. He’s the sort of guy that gives you the time of day and tries to help you, whether it’s pointing out a cheap 32” TV you’ve been wanting, or just casually helping you with Australian Gaming Bargains. I always like talking to you Vervain, and don’t worry about your current circumstances, you identified what you needed to do and have done just that. I foresee a bright future ahead of you, as long as you follow your heart.

You can be a bit of a brute at times, yet that’s your style which makes you a legend. I don’t think I’d be able to survive a week without reading one of your smart arse comments, it’s just your nature which adds character and influences the forums/IRC channel. Don’t every change.
