The wiiware title around a side character to kid icarus is coming out very soon (Icarian: kindred spirits. dated for PAL release in the next couple of months by nintendo europe). I'd just wait/expect some announcements info around that release of that sometime soon. looks a nice wiiware game too. _________________

The story goes that Factor 5 were/are working on a Man-Icarus game. Think Kid Icarus only grown up and probably more like God of War.
The rumours started when Factor5 announced they were working on the Wii, and Matt Cassamawhatever from IGN Nintendo dropped countless hints that a) Kid Icarus would return, and b) Factor5 were the ones doing it.
Hints mostly revolved around saying that the developer was someone who knew Nintendo's hardware and the game was bound to look amazing. That sparked Factor5 rumours as, back in the GCN days, Factor5 knew Nintendo's hardware arguably better than the Big N itself. Everyone was pretty much saying "ITS FACTOR5" and Matty-boy went as far as to say "Everyone knows who it is".
THEN E3 was coming around and Matt claimed Kid Icarus would probably show. It didn't. Not only that, but nothing of Factor5's stuff was shown.
Rumours were abound that Factor5 were going to the gutter (not true, they still exist), and a rather reliable poster on NeoGAF posted some renders of 'Man-Icarus'. I personally believe they are real (they looked pretty average though).
So, what was the REAL situation? Nobody knows. It's possible Nintendo commissioned Factor5 to do a new Kid Icarus. Its possible that Nintendo NEVER commissioned Factor5 to do it, and instead Factor5 wanted to do one and were working on a concept demo in hopes that Nintendo would give them the rights to go forward.
The guy from NeoGAF reckons Man-Icarus is still coming, along with another game, so....I guess we'll just have to wait and see. _________________

I think IGN said Factor 5 has two Wii game coming in an interview (?) One "hardcore", one "casual". And since another rumour is Factor 5 is doing Pilotwings, it means it is Pilotwings - casual, Kid Icaus - hardcore.
But all that means nothing, because there hasn't even been any hint of confirmation, it's all just fanboy dreams. All we know is Factor 5 is working on at least one Wii game. That's it. _________________

What? It is. Casual does not equal crap.
...Well, the SNES one was pretty hardcore. _________________

I think a game like Pilotwings would work well within the current Wii climate. Kid would probably sell similarly to Metroid Prime.
There are the kinds of games Nintendo need, never mind what the fans want. It's clear that the casual market is where the money is, but if the current sales charts in Japan are anything to go by, it will fade out over time. The only way to combat that is to have the right balance between the casual and hardcore markets ...
Speaking of, did anyone see the article in Good Game the other week about that?

Pilotwings 64 was the first game I got for my N64. I absolutely loved it so another iteration doesnt bother me (so long as the release another Kid Icarus) _________________

i never liked the old kid icarus games much. but i'd like to see a new one as it seems like a franchise that would be good if they reinvented it like they did with the metroid series.

^^ There was only one wasn't there? Kid Icarus on the NES. I didn't like it that much either, it was insanely difficult and just wasn't as good as Mario or Metroid. _________________

Actually there was a sequel on the original Game Boy.
The games itself were okay not great. But if it were released on Wii, it would definitely be very different, unless they still go 2D, like Wario. _________________

Even if it's not the next (hopefully there will be one) Kid Icarus, it looks like it will fit the bill for the time being, and some of those shots look absolutely beautiful!
Can't wait till it's released in US so we get reviews etc _________________
