What is the scariest thing that has happened to you?
For me, it would either be getting my head stuck under a rubber tube while riding it down rapids with friends when I was 7, almost clipping the ground with my wing while taking my first flight lesson taking off for the second time when I pushed left on the stick to correct the wheels instead of using the rudder, or having to do those god awful oral presentations in front of all the other students in school.
EDIT: Coming home to find we had been broken into and all my games stolen in year 12 and the resultant paranoia for years to come, and being in a car crash when we had another driver run into our car in an intersection were also pretty bad
So lets hear your stories... _________________

I always remember my trip to Canberra for year 6 camp. It was the first time I had the opportunity to go to the snow and the school had organized skiing lessons for our class which was very exciting for me as a kid. So anyway we ended up going to Thredbo and the lady made us put on our ski gear - nearly straight away I knew my skiing experience was going to be an absolute disaster.. Anyway when she was teaching us the basics I lost control and ended up sliding under this ski lodge with a mate of mine. So here we are grasping for our lives as were sinking into this pool of icy water.. At first the lady didn't realize how bad the situation was but when she realized we were actually going into water and not snow she came to our rescue... Anyway I haven't been to the snow since _________________

Having a vat of oil burst into flames and not having anything to put it out with. We threw a wet towel on it but that flared it up. So when we removed the towel it caught the side of the oil container which basically made the entire kitchen explode.
So me and another guy were literally standing inside a 2 metre high fireball with hot oil all over the floor.
I remember standing inside the explosion thinking " well that's the end of that you ****, oh well stiff ****"
But my mate slipped in the oil trying to get out so i pushed him and he skidded out of the fire, i slipped but didn't fall and leapt out of the fire.
So when i finally got out of this fireball, everyone in the house looked at me like i was still on fire, which was **** scary, one minute thinking thank **** for that, the next thinking, ah jesus christ i'm on fire.
Spent 2 months in hospital with third degree burns on my feet and second degree all up my legs, i had a blister over my entire palm that was about 15 cm high, the other guy had to learn how to walk again because the bottoms of his feet peeled off.
The funny thing was this - 2 weeks before hand i found a magnifying glass and i don't know why to this day but i burnt a ring around september 16 1992 and wrote **** it. 2 weeks later i am being burned on that day.
I also was burning ants with the magnifying glass that day which i hadn't done for about 12 years, **** adam ant got me - "don't tread on an ant, he's done nothing to you, there might come a day when he's treading on you" _________________

Plugging power into something that's set for 120v rather than 240. My face was right next to the Power Supply and when it blew I flung back and went deaf for about 3 minutes. Couldn't see either for about 20 seconds because I was looking directly at the PSU when it popped.
Apparently I was lucky I didn't get a burn on my face or something, the pop was pretty big of what I was told. _________________

On muck up day we threw eggs at an oppossing group and went to drive off, thing was I wasn't in the car all the way yet. My friend floors it, I almost fell out but out of no where I get retard strength and manage to pull myself in. For that split second I thought I was gunna get seriously hurt.
And once when i was 8 I fell off my bunk bed and managed to poop myself in mid air, then when i hit the ground it splattered every where. I can't really remember it all that well but getting rid of a whole days **** in half a second proved that I was pretty scared.
Other than that I have had a pretty tame life. _________________

was riding in a mates car coming down the hills from Roleystone (pretty steep drop-offs/cliffs on one side of the road) when a mate decides to see what happens if you put an automatic car from Drive into Reverse at ~80kmph.
well, if it's an old car that actually tried to do this, scary stuff happens, like the drive shaft snapping and shrapnel being fired through the car, mostly through the rear seat.
to this day i have no idea why he was wondering this, or how we both escaped without any injury. (anyone in the back seat would've been f**ked.)
i also believe it was the last time i ever got a lift from this guy...
EDIT: re: Chimpy's post below - well, i guess i had wondered before, but what i meant was i've no idea why he didn't give some warning that he was also wondering, rather than just try it. although, to be fair, had he asked first, i probably would've talked him out of trying. _________________

Being in a car crash where our car got written off. I still remember playing Mario 64 DS mini games in the back, dad says really calmly "We're gone", I look up and see everything happen in slow motion through the front windscreen as we get smashed. (Not dads fault at all btw) _________________

Being reversed on by someone at an intersection because they didn't like the roundabout in front of them and decided "lets chuck her in reverse" leap and hope I hit the towbar which I managed by like a fraction, almost slipped but dug in that small gap between the boot and backwindscreen. Woman got out and proceeded to have a go at me for walking 4-6 paces behind her car, her tone changed when she got served demerit points for being bloody retarded.
Other time, mother got lost going somewhere, I can't recall where, car a bit behind us, she just stops dead and procrastinates, doesn't pull over or anything, 1 lane road car behind us going about 90 odd coming closer and the next thing you see is him fish tailing it onto the naiturestrip (she managed to stop out from of really the only part that didn't have trees on it, (dumb luck he only mounted the curb and didn't smack something) but yeah quite a "you get that f'n foot on the accelerator or I'm kissing my arse goodbye" moment if the guy didn't bail like a champion.

Pudding's new sig....
Seriously though the most scared I've ever been was when I had the neighbours from hell. Four or five 20 something guys (not sure cos they came and went alot) always up late partying or lifting weights them dropping them, loud music 24/7 etc. Anyway after around 2 weeks of this non-stop, my next door neighbour who has 3 kids had enough and complained, only to cop a mouthful of threats. Leads him to call the police who arrive only to tell them to shut up. The cops are useless they only can do anything if they are on our property, so they leave... Well calling the cops didn't sit well with them so they started to shout threats from their driveway. I was home alone cos my partner was on night shift so I just pretended I wasn't home and peeked out the window through the blinds. My heart skipped when I saw 4 of them with cricket bats and what looked like a samuri sword. They were taunting my neighbour out of his house, and him being a ex boxer he i knew he would struggle not wanting to beat the **** out of them, and he was standing at his door.. I called out to him not to go out and I'm calling the cops again... so thats when they saw me peeking out the window.. My heart stopped when i saw my man's car came around the corner... I yelled to lock the doors and stay where he was... I couldn't get through on the local police number so I called 000. I was so petrified I don't think I could speak to the operator, but 6 cop cars rock up like 1 minute later and they arrested the guy with the illegal sword. The next day the drug squad was called in...turns out they had drugs stashed everywhere including the in the walls and ceiling, hand guns in the toilets as well as other weapons. Now I feel so lucky that nothing serious happened and I cringe everytime i think about what could have been. I make sure I know my neighbours well, cos you never know...

want to neg that really badly cause its crook but at the same time is scary....well played.
may as well ad a story in as well...
when I was 15 I was surfing tried something, it didnt work out that well kinda blacked out for a sec, surfed some more, walked home in a bit of a haze had concussion (spell check someone) threw up a few times, got taken to hospital asked if I had pin and needles in the finger tips, which I did.
Got a neckbrace put on and pushed around in a wheelchair, they thought I may have done something to the spinal cord. The realisation of being 15 and thinking I may never be able to do the things I love again was scary as!!! It turned out to be nothing but yeah.....
That and having a girl tell you she is late, and not just to meet you somewhere! (some guys must know what I mean. wow!) _________________

while going water skiing my cousin let go of the rope that went to the skier, the rope flung back and cause I was in the back seat it hit me in the neck. For about 1 second I thought I was dead then it went over my head. _________________ I'm bleeding, making me the victor.

Back in 2000, was riding down this REALLY steep hill that was all gravel and rocks with one of my mates. As we were riding I was worried, then all of a sudden this random squirell thing comes out of no where, I swerve, my bike buckles or something I dunno, just went flying and scraped across the gravel for what seemed for ever but was like 10 metres... god that hurt, and then to fix it, my mum got out the betedine, and that stung bad, basically, half of my body was just one massive scab. _________________

Typed this up at work but it obviously didnt post:
A few years ago I was driving back from Melbourne, it was about 6am and I was about 50km from Yass when a semi-trailer turned into my lane forcing me to swerve out of the way and ended up hitting a barried on the right side of the highway and then I richocheted back across the road and hit the barried on the other side. Luckily there was no one else on the road at the time otherwise it could've been a lot worse. _________________ RIP Buddha 19/10/1952 - 03/01/2004

Most recently, when i was flying with my neighbour in his little single engine cessna. He decides that we will take off and we nearly get blown sideways on the take off... the landing later on was pretty much the same but abit worse because he had to attempt it twice...
Years ago when i used to bodyboard every weekend, well it was stormy so there were huge waves but nothing that bad, all of a sudden this huge wave comes out of no where so i decide to go under it... not the best move, im under there being thrown upside down sideways, hit my head on the sand below then just as i recover from hitting my head my bodyboards cord decides to wrap itself around my neck... was the longest time i can remember holding my breath. My dad saw what was going on and helped me get up.... after 20mins to recover im back in there.
Got a few others but they require more thinking than what i can put in to tell correctly at the moment

... I got pulled out to sea through a strong rip when I was young like 8 or 9... I just didn't have the stregth or knowledge to get back to safety...
The main thing I remember was the shock I felt when suddenly I couldn't touch the ground. And that I couldn't get back to the shallower water.
It was about 15 - 20 minutes before someone noticed me and saved me...
but man.... it totally freaked me out about the Beach, i always think about when I go to the beach now, I usually just sunbake when im there haha. _________________ NEW CLEARANCE SALE!!!

When I first moved to australia that happened to me.
England obviously had rip tides, but nothing like the one I was dragged out by. My second time in the water I was thrown from my body board and smacked around the sea floor, the 3rd time stung by one of those blue jellyfish that you can pop when they wash up on the beach, at the time I only knew about the box jellyfish, so I freaked.
My first few experiences with ozzy beaches weren't my best. I still go in, but never very deep. Not to mention the salt water drys out my beautiful skin.

Ten years old, at a school camp. They kept a few snakes and were showing us the reptile room. A few lizards, pythons and a taipan...
...which the snake wrangler proceeds to tell us is only the most venomous snake IN THE WORLD.
Oh, but it's okay, this one was in an aquarium...
...and then the snake wrangler proceeds to tells us that the taipan is predominantly found RIGHT WHERE OUR CAMP WAS.
I could feel the eyes of thousands of snakes on me everywhere I went during that camp, miles from anywhere, far from any modern medical facilities...
Did not have a good time. _________________

Haha, I remember finding out that Tiger Snakes love the area I live in.
I searched my room every night before bed and put towels at the bottom of the doors
EDIT: Should really put my story in.
When I was 10-11 years old I went through a tree climbing stage, and we had a huge tree round the back of our 2 story house. So I was climbing with a few buddies, and reached the top, I got cocky and attempted to jump over onto the roof of my house. I heard a crack and the branch I was standing on broke off, as I was falling I grabbed another branch, but only with 2 fingers, it was about 2 seconds and my fingers slipped, oofcourse it felt like 2 minutes. Then to top it all off as I was falling I looked down and saw the fence, I honestly thought I was going to land on it in a most uncomfortable position, next thing I open my eyes and I am on the neighbours lawn with my friends laughing at me. I must have blacked out because one minute I was falling the next, I was on my back and disorientated. It all happened in about 3 seconds, but it felt like 3 minutes of pure fear.
Haven't climbed many trees since then

Nearly drowned in a swimming pool when i was about 3 years old, it's funny how things happen. One second standing on the edge, the next sinking towards the bottom. Gave me a fear cold water for YEARS after. I was also too scared to go under water (pool or spa) until i was 12 (and even then it had to be a heated pool/spa).
Scary for different reasons, being a front or backseat passenger and narrowly avoiding accidents. One happened when we were driving home after my appearance at a Vickick (now Auskick) half time match, road was a little wet. My dad was making a right turn, loses traction - thus control and skids along the road. Came to a stop at the gutter...... i thought it was typical as to how things worked out, the direction he swerved - meant my face/splattered brain would have had a 1 on 1 date with a telephone pole if it went any further.
Have been in a few close calls at traffic lights when some daredevils would turn very late at the lights....i was not a happy camper (thinking i was done for - although the drivers side would have copped it had they collided).
