Posted: Tue Mar 24, 2009 4:58 pm Post subject: Sony Announce Exclusive Lightbox Deal (Warhawk 2?) |
|
|
|
|
OK, a quick rundown on what has happened:
*Dylan Jobe (former Incognito Entertainment Studio Director) has left the Sony-owned Incognito development studio, the developers of Warhawk.
*Jobe, along with key members of the Warhawk team, announce Lightbox Interactive, with Jobe in the position of President.
*Kotaku run a rumour that Lightbox Interactive are working on Warhawk 2, which will be set in outer space.
| Quote: | Reached for comment this morning, Dylan Jobe, president of LightBox Interactive Studio, had this to say:
"We're incredibly happy to continue working with Sony Computer Entertainment America and World Wide Studios. We've got a great relationship with them and I'm really proud of our new partnership. With regard to the inevitable "What are you guys working on?"... It's way too early to comment on anything but I can say that we have some really exciting stuff in development that our Warhawk fans *and* new players will love." |
*Sony announce a deal with Lightbox Interactive to create games exclusively for PlayStation platforms.
| Quote: | “We are extremely pleased to be working with Dylan and his team in their new endeavor at LightBox Interactive,” said John Hight, Sony’s director of internal development. “Through pioneering many online and community features on PlayStation network with the multiplayer game Warhawk, this team is established as leaders in the online category. I look forward to seeing what kind of further innovations they bring to the PlayStation platforms through this new development deal.”
Jobe directed Warhawk, a multiplayer PlayStation 3 game that was first to deliver consumers a game on Blu-ray Disc and as a download on the PlayStation network.
“We’ve forged a fantastic relationship with Sony over the past nine years and with the formation of LightBox Interactive, our partnership will continue to grow, fueling the development of great games for players around the globe,” said Dylan Jobe, president, LightBox Interactive, Inc. |
So, it seems likely that Lightbox are working on Warhawk 2. I wonder what that means for Incognito? Hopefully another new IP. _________________

I personally think that Warhawk 2 will still be land based, but will include water vehicles this time around. Jobe has said he often pushed for naval battles while at Incognito. _________________

Warhawk still has bugs and problems that are over a year old that have never been fixed. That makes me concerned how well a Warhawk 2 will be.
Plus the lack of Official Australian servers has put me off in favor of Killzone 2.
This is isn't interesting for me untill they actually announce a Warhawk 2. _________________

I thought Warhawk does have Aussie servers? The AU games.
And maybe you prefer Killzone 2 because you have been playing Warhawk for over one entire year.
Yes, Warhawk does have some bugs, but it was still great value, and still is to this day.
I can't believe you BurnZy Boi, thought you'd be loving a Warhawk 2. I know I'm holding out for it, and they haven't released a patch for Warhawk since the latest expansion pack...that would have been lateish last year.
Oh well, good to know there is SOME news about a possible new game in the works. _________________

We have 2 servers that are not up for days on end. And compared to how many Japanese and US servers there are, we are getting screwed.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love a Warhawk 2. As long as they take more care and maintenance of it then they have with Warhawk (which has been nothing for over 6 months) and integrate our bought expansion packs. _________________

I'd love a Warhawk 2, I was hooked on Warhawk for months. I'm still tempted to give it another go, but the Killzone 2 box with that Helghan on it just keeps staring at me.
Burnz pretty much summed up why I'm worried about it. I'd rather Warhawk just sell some more DLC and just improve the game further. _________________

I disagree, even though I do love Warhawk, it's already had 3 expansion packs and several free updates that have changed the game a lot.
It's also a very old game. It's numbers are still pretty good, but a new game would hopefully get more people onto it. It would also give it a 'fresh' feeling.
I still remember that game of Warhawk against you 2. It was uber fun. In fact, if there were as many people turning up from PALGN to play Warhawk as there is for Killzone atm, I think I'd have more fun on Warhawk.
Anyway, I won't get too excited until I see a trailer. _________________

Warhawk to me was like the Battlefield games on PC but on console. I might give warhawk another go this weekend, been sticking to socom and killzone 2.
Burnz you still play often? Last I remember I joined your clan.

Honestly I love Warhawk but disliked that there was no single player, so this time around if there IS a Warhawk 2 I'd like an SP component to go with the MP.
I look forward to seeing what they unveil that's for certain. Warhawk is fantastic. _________________

There was always one problem with Warhawk, and it is still there, it retails for 100 dollars on disk, about 40 on the Playstation Store, yet to play on most servers you need the expansions which costed easily 10 each on release (now it is 20 for all three) to play on any servers. I don't have the expansions so I can only access about 2 servers... However if Warhawk 2 is an improvment full steam ahead _________________

I don't think Warhawk would have really suited a single player campaign mode. Something about it seemed to suit online play.
Apparently it started out as a single player game but they changed it. There's a video of it on Youtube, it was quite good to see the really early build of it too.
And also, the game was originally priced very fairly, so it was great value IMO even without a sinlge player campaign.
Would still love a PALGN Warhawk game, that would be so fun. _________________

^Well that's the thing, the original PS1 version of Warhawk had a SP component and it was awesome. Though I'm pretty big on Multiplayer, I still do enjoy my SP components, as I like to have as much marrow from the bone that I can get. So here's hoping.
Value I'm not fussed with for Warhawk. I thought it gave a good enough package. Plus I got it with the headset so it was good. _________________

I would love warhawk 2 to be out in space. whether it follows the same era/story this could be really interesting (only because i can't get freelancer out of my head) cup this with individual space battles with private ships to battlecruisers which people can invade/destroy/take over..
..hmm don't think any of that will happen _________________

Whoa there! Pretty sure it retailed (at launch) for about 80 on disc WITH a headset and 50 on the PSN store.
Now it is 30 for the game on the store and you could probably pick up the disc for around 50 now with the headset included.
Well it's still the best valued game I've bought this generation. I can see how it may be a rip if you never get into it though. _________________

I never played the original, so can't comment on that single player component.
Now that I sorta think about it, a campaign mode does have the possibility to be pretty sweet. But Incognito have typically been online/multiplayer developers, especially with Twisted Metal:Black and other such games. _________________

Did you really buy it for $100? I think that $100 comes with a headset aswell so obviously it's going to cost more. _________________
