My computer at the moment is in a micro atx case and it doesnt seem to get much airflow through it and is pretty loud, even after I cut big holes in the side. So im going to buy a new mid sized case.
Just need a couple of answers and tips...
Do I have to worry about the motherboard size being able to fit into a mid sized case or do all motherboards fit all cases?
Since I have an IDE dvd burner (not sata), are rounded IDE cables worth it or should i just manage the cables for better airflow?
Any tips on how to reduce the amount of noise coming from inside?
Thanks. _________________

I think i can answer one of your questions: Since your motherboard is a micro-atx sized(Right? You are currently using a micro-atx case so i'm assuming your motherboard is the same size), it should fit into a mid sized case no problem...although you might want to check if the case you intend on purchasing has the screw points(haha =.=) for an micro-atx motherboard(If you are re-using your parts, that is).

If you have the budget, go for a Lian Li case. Round cables are great for a decent airflow inside the case since they minimize the clutter with the cables inside your case. Noise inside are your fans. Use heatpipes or lower the fans' RPM.

1. Change case and/or replace case fans
I found that some (not all) good brand name cases (Antec, Lian Li, Thermaltake and Coolermaster) are actually more quieter than generic ones (and not as dust collecting). Just research before buying the actual case. If you do have a brand name case and the fans are still annoying, the fans may be replaceable. I recommend the Thermaltake Silent fans and could go one step further and get a fan controller if you have spare cash and you can reduce the speed of the fan (but research is required as to what the controller can support which fans)
2. Other Fans
Graphic cards, PSU and CPU. I personally would use the Zalman CPU Copper fan for the CPU and get a silent PSU. Never bothered with the GPU fans.
Just my 2 cents worth. _________________ "Work hard now, play even harder later"

Check out the Antec 900 its quite good for airflow 2 fans at the front, 1 at the back, optional fan on the side and a massive 200mm fan on top.
I have one myself, however keep in mind if your gonna use a massive cpu cooler you most likely wont have enough room to mount a side fan unless you modify it or something.

You buy good cases because of its quality. Preference on fans' noises are just optional. I'd rather buy a branded case rather than a generic one that has silent fans. As what you've said, you can just replace the fans on the branded ones if you really prefer quieter fans

Ive got an Antec 900, its pretty good and cheap enough will fit the micro atx form factor
Rounded IDEs to help but if you are just running 1 of them, try to just minimize the distance it goes over because rounded IDEs are kinda expensive, probably be cheaper to get a sata dvd burner.
Noise, try to get bigger fans on things/oil the bearings and what not on older stuff. Ive got a Thermaltake Blue Orb 2 cpu cooler which is pretty quiet (cant hear it over the other fans, hell my hdd makes more noise than it) _________________
