I personally think that, at times, manga exceeds anime in more ways than one. Manga that is created by people like Urasawa are so impressive and immersive that no anime thus far has been able to compete against it. 20th Century Boys is just one of those titles.
Then there's always Beck by they to Sakuishi which will, more than likely, never be done in an anime form. A great indie rock band anime? I don't think so 
But that's not to say anime isn't good.. character voices, music, proper action, stuff that even manga cannot do. But you have to remember, 90% if not more anime is developed from manga.
